Situated across the yard from the owner’s home, on a small working farm, this converted detached cow barn offers a contemporary interior oozing with country charm. The kind owners offer a laundry service, and the option for breakfast, afternoon tea and evening meals can be provided at an additional cost (arranged direct with the owner). Limestone flooring and the natural pink hues of the exposed stonework give a light and airy feel throughout the property. The sleek kitchen and bathroom, both with underfloor heating, and the tastefully decorated bedrooms complete the theme. French doors lead out on to the patio and an unfenced stream passes through the enclosed garden to the rear of the property. Nestled up on the Black Mountain in the Brecon Beacons National Park, this area is a nature lover’s paradise, with footpaths and bridleways giving direct access to the Black Mountain from the farm.
Up above the village of Llanddeusant sits the famous lake known as Llyn y Fan. This beautiful lake is a popular destination for walkers as it boasts spectacular views and a tranquil, peaceful atmosphere. Myths about The Lady of the Lake and the Physicians of Myddfai come from ancient times, and some people believe that the Arthurian legend of the Lady of the Lake and Excalibur stem from here.
If you’re a romantic star gazer then the first International Dark Sky Reserve in Wales, situated in the Brecon Beacons, is perfect for you. On a clear night, you can see the Milky Way, major constellations, bright nebulas and even meteor showers. It’s enough to make anyone starry-eyed.
Less than half an hour’s drive will bring you to the colourful, picturesque town of Llandeilo, scattered with an array of shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants. It’s a delightful place to spend a few hours. Throughout the year you can watch the graceful red kite swoop down for food provided by the Red Kite Feeding Station also in Llanddeusant.
Whether you want to explore the mountains or potter around the farm with its 20 acres of ancient woodland and river walks, or wander through the pastures where sheep and cattle graze, Bramble Cottage is the perfect place to relax. Llaethdy - Milkhouse was once the old dairy in the small town of Talgarth and what you see today once included a cow shed and hay barn, but has now been skillfully converted into a holiday home. In days gone by the farmer milked his cows here and delivered it from a churn by horse and cart; it wasn’t very far to travel so it must have been very fresh! The detached barn, with its oak beams, offers bright open plan living space, ground floor bedrooms and shower room and two large first floor bedrooms, one with an en-suite bathroom.
The ancient market town of Talgarth is an ideal base for visitors wishing to explore the Brecon Beacons National Park on foot, particularly as it forms the "Gateway to the Black Mountains" which act as a backdrop to the town. There are wonderful walking opportunities on the doorstep and an annual walking festival in the town in May. While in the town, visit the local businesses around the pretty stone streets where friendly staff will be able to offer you some of the finest local produce, watch the gentle river as it flows under the Medieval Tower Bridge or, at Christmas gaze at the dazzling lights. The town offers a real chance to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Thanks to the BBC’s Village SOS programme, Talgarth now has a fully restored working water mill with a very popular café. There are cosy pubs with roaring log fires, real ales and home cooked food; all within an easy stroll of Llaethdy - Milkhouse.
Discover Parc Wood or Pwll-yr-Wrach waterfalls and nature reserve, take a look at the views from the top of Bronllys Castle, or simply admire the spectacular views from the common land overlooking the town. Close to Brecon, Crickhowell and Hay-on-Wye, Talgarth is an ideal base for visitors wishing to explore the Brecon Beacons National Park on foot, whether it’s the high peaks or the lush green valleys of the Wye and the Usk which capture the imagination. Talgarth and the surrounding countryside is a haven for artists and photographers. For a fascinating insight into the life and times of workers during the early years of the Industrial Revolution, why not visit Blaenavon Ironworks? The site is home to one of the best preserved 18th century ironworks in Europe and comes complete with furnaces, cast houses, a magnificent water balance tower, cupola furnace and ironworker’s cottages. Take a trip on a vintage steam locomotive across the narrow gauge heritage railway that runs beside Pontsticill and Pentwyn Reservoirs. You could spend a lifetime in the Brecon Beacons National Park and not see all there is to see; but you can discover quite a lot if you make Llaethdy – Milkhouse your home for your holiday whether it’s a short break or slightly longer stay. Fresh air, wide open spaces, a creative atmosphere and loads to entertain you, whatever the weather. Honeycott lies within walking distance of the historic town of Crickhowell, named the 2019 ’best place to live in Wales’ by the Sunday Times, and also ’best high street in Britain’ 2018. There is an array of amenities there including boutiques, coffee shops and restaurants. For those who enjoy music festivals, Crickhowell is home to the Green Man during August. The town of Abergavenny is 6 miles away and there you will find some fine dining restaurants, including the Michelin-starred Walnut Tree Inn and The Hardwick Restaurant owned by chef Stephen Terry. The town is host to the annual food festival in September. Brecon is just 14 miles away from Honeycott and has lots of places of interest to visit such as the Welsh Regimental Museum and Brecon Cathedral, and it is also home to a jazz festival every August. For those wanting to explore the area on foot, Pen Y Fan, South Wales’ highest peak, offers great opportunities. Sugar Loaf Mountain also nearby and is the southernmost of the peaks in the Black Mountain Range. Dardy Cottage has been renovated to a very good standard in 2020 and is located in the village of Dardy. The historic town of Crickhowell is 15 minutes’ walk, (¾ miles) from Dardy Cottage. The village of Llangattock is just 5 minutes’ walk, and has several pubs offering food and an excellent children’s playground recently upgraded. Crickhowell was named in 2019 as the best place to live in Wales by the Sunday Times, and also best high street in Britain in 2018. There is an array of amenities there including independent boutiques, coffee shops, bookshops, groceries and restaurants. For those who enjoy music festivals, Crickhowell is home to the ’Green Man’ during August. This property is also perfect for anyone wanting to participate in the annual Crickhowell Walking Festival, in March.
The town of Abergavenny is 7 miles away and there you will find some fine dining restaurants, including a Michelin-starred restaurant. Abergavenny is also host to an annual food festival in September. The South Wales three peaks event Blorenge/Sugar Loaf and Skirrid in a day!) takes place in March. The "platinum challenge" starts from Crickhowell.
Brecon is just 15½ miles away from Dardy Cottage and has lots of places of interest, such as the Welsh Regimental Museum and Brecon Cathedral, and it is also home to a jazz festival every August. For those wanting to explore the area on foot, Pen Y Fan, south Wales’ highest peak, offers great opportunities. Sugar Loaf Mountain is also nearby and is the southernmost of the peaks in the Black Mountain Range. The annual Crickhowell Walking festival provides a range of guided walks.
Dardy Cottage is close to the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal and the Usk Valley Walk National Trail, which run through the village, offering easy access on foot and bike to local attractions and Sustrans cycling routes. For cyclists we have secure storage in the garage.

The Groom’s Room has been restored to a good standard and offers great accommodation for couples, small families or friends alike, with an open plan living space with patio doors overlooking the paddock and surrounding countryside. It is situated on the owner’s stud farm and the property overlooks a paddock with the owner’s pet sheep and horses in. There is a paddock to exercise your dogs in and you can also bring your own horses as there is plenty of stabling here with lots of places to hack out (stabling is at cost, by direct arrangement with owners).
There is plenty to do in the area whether you are walking or cycling. BikePark Wales is approximately 8 miles from the property and hosts some of the best mountain biking routes in the world. For those who enjoy walking then Garwnant Visitors Centre in the Brecon Beacons is a great place to take the kids - plenty of walks to be had and a great play park. Dare Valley Park is a great place for taking in the nature and listening to the birds with 500 acres of pond dipping. The property is also within a short distance of the Ystradfellte waterfalls and Penyfan. If you would like to spend an afternoon shopping, then the retail park at Cyfarthfar has plenty of shops for you to peruse. If you want to leave the car behind, the city of Cardiff is easily accessible by train from Aberdare for a day out. For those looking for watersports or a trip to the beach, Barry Island is 25 miles from the property. Whatever you decide to do this converted stables is greatly placed for all activites. This lovely cottage is right on the edge of the Brecon Beacons in Waterfall Country with access from the doorstep directly into the countryside. Visiting Sgwd Yr Eira Waterfall is a fantastic way to spend a day exploring with or without your pets, with fabulous views en-route of the open countryside, be sure to take a jacket as you can walk right behind the waterfall. Pen y Fan, the highest mountain in South Wales is less than a 30-minute drive from the property. En-route you can pop into the Penderyn distillery to see how award-winning whisky and gin is produced, you could also follow on to the historic town of Brecon with its cathedral and Regimental Museum of The Royal Welsh, or simply have a wander around the art gallery and enjoy some coffee and cake.
For those adrenaline junkies looking for some excitement, Bike Park Wales is approximately a 30-minute drive north from the property and Afan Forest Mountain Bike Trails are 30-minutes south with masses of trails for mountain bike enthusiasts. If you tire of the mountains you are never far from the sea either with Aberavon Beach less than 20 miles away and the famous Gower Peninsula only 30 miles away. The National Show Caves for Wales are a short drive from the property and make a fantastic day out with three of the largest caves to experience, the kids will also love the dinosaur feature they have. Almost directly across the road you will find Craig Y Nos Castle and the attached country park which was formally owned by opera signer Adelina Patti. If you are looking for some retail therapy the property is perfectly located only 13 miles from the historic market town of Neath and 20 miles from Swansea, both of which have traditional indoor markets. Cardiff is also easily reachable within an hours drive, or by train from Neath station. The cottage is within easy walking distance of the village center with it’s choice of four welcoming public houses serving hot meals. This fabulous property is nestled within the Brecon Beacons National Park, next to Llwyn-on reservoir, which lies in 150 acres of land and is one of the biggest of the Taffs reservoirs. Great walks can be had around the reservoir, and for those with an interest in fishing, it is stocked with rainbow trout (license to be purchased locally). If you are looking to explore the surrounding area, this property is just a few miles from Pen Y Fan and Corn Du, Pen Y Fan being the highest peak in Wales, standing at 873 metres above sea level. There is an abundance of walks to be had in the Brecon Beacons National Park, but no need to worry if it’s raining as umbrellas with lights are provided at the cottage! If its cycling you’re interested in, then Bike Park Wales is roughly 6 miles from the property, boasting several trails from beginners to proline. The property also has a bike store for those bringing bicycles (please bring your own bike lock).
The nearest village is Cefn Coed, which is approximately 2 miles from the property, and there are plenty of convenience stores, restaurants and pubs, and there is also a golf course here. Merthyr Tydfil is a 10-minute drive from the property and has all the amenities you could need, plenty of shops, restaurants, bars. The historic market town of Brecon is a 25-minute drive away, Cardiff is a 40-minute drive and Swansea is a 50-minute drive.
