Owned by His Majesty the King, in Right of His Duchy of Lancaster, Scalby Lodge is a collection of fifteen beautiful cottages situated in an idyllic clifftop setting near the elegant seaside town of Scarborough.

All the cottages are finished with fixtures and fittings of the very highest standard and have open-plan dining. Some have en-suite bedrooms. They offer an ideal location from which to explore both the North York Moors National Park and the glorious Heritage Coast of Yorkshire.

This charming, Grade II listed holiday cottage boasts an idyllic, wonderfully tranquil honeypot location in the heart of the North York Moors, enhanced by breathtaking views.
Adjoining another property, it is 3 miles from picturesque Castleton and Danby. The trickle of the meandering stream soothes the stress of everyday life, and many footpaths can be accessed from the garden via a little wooden bridge. A short drive leads to bustling Whitby and coastal villages of Robin Hoods Bay and Runswick Bay. Beach 11¼ miles. Pub and restaurant 3 miles.

Just 5 miles from Pickering, gateway to the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, this very spacious cottage lies on the fringes of a pretty village, 100 yards from a fine pub. Set in a peaceful garden adjacent to the owners’ home, the cottage has a beautifully designed interior including cinema surround sound TV. Superb walking and cycling at Cropton Forest. Flamingo Land and Castle Howard are close by, and scenic ‘Heartbeat’ moorland roads lead to Whitby. The historic city of York, seaside town of Scarborough and the picturesque fishing village of Robin Hood’s Bay lie within a 40-minute drive. Shop 4 miles, pub 100 yards.

Situated in the popular seaside resort of Scarborough, close to the shops and restaurants and just under a mile from the beach, this terraced townhouse is perfect for a family holiday. The owners have catered for the children with a games room that has lots of games plus a pool table. Mill View House is in a quiet area of the town. From the house you can walk to either bay, north or south, both having long sandy beaches making them ideal for families. The North Bay is the quieter of the two and the South Bay has all that you would expect of a traditional seaside resort with donkeys, amusements and children’s rides. You can walk on the promenade the full length of both bays passing the castle perched up on the hillside. If you prefer to take a ride there’s an open top double decker bus that runs along the seafront.
Scarborough has many attractions with the open air theatre, the Scarborough Spa and the Stephen Joseph Theatre. On your walk down to the beach you pass Peasholm Park with it’s beautiful gardens and large lake, a fabulous place to take the kids, there’s boats and pedalos for them to play on. This is also where they do the famous re-enactment of a naval warfare miniature sea battle. The house is situated less than two minutes walk from the train station where you can go by train to York, a medieval city famous for its Minster. There’s so much to do in Scarborough which is why it’s popular both in the summer and winter months. An ideal spot for that family holiday.
Scarborough is just one of many family resorts down the east coast. Further down the coast and just a short drive away is Filey, Flamborough Head and of course the Victorian resort of Bridlington. There’s some fantastic walks along the cliff tops as this is part of the Cleveland Way so very popular amongst walkers. The RSPB bird sanctuary at Bempton is just a few minutes drive away where you can see puffins, gannets and seals in their natural habitat. This is one of the most visited bird sanctuary in the UK.

This is a great destination all year round, a marvellous choice for those who enjoy the great outdoors or simply want a relaxing holiday with peace and fresh air, but with many delights to discover in the local area.
Tranmire Cottage is beautifully furnished throughout, with an authentic country charm. Careful attention to detail means it is both very well-equipped and comfortable. It also has the most fabulous freestanding roll top bath with a rain shower over - a grand feature, and great for relaxing in after a day out.
The cottage sleeps six in three bedrooms, with up to three dogs welcome to join you; there are many delightful walks nearby you and they will love. The owners provide route suggestions as well as walking maps and books, and a guide packed with information about the area.
Throughout the ground floor there is underfloor heating, ensuring the large reception area can be used for drying as well as storing outdoor gear if necessary. The living room also has a large range with an open fire, great for cosying up in the winter months. This room bathed in light from the large sash window with window seat, which looks out into the lawned garden and secure paddock beyond, which is shared with the neighbouring owners. There is a dedicated seating area and BBQ within the garden, so that guests can make the most of sunny afternoons during their stay. You can collect eggs from the hens which are kept in a large enclosed paddock.
The quintessential country kitchen is ideal for creating home-cooked meals using these eggs or other fresh local ingredients from the many farm shops in the area. Savour time together around the dining table, planning the events for the days ahead over dinner.
Up on the first floor you have the most incredible master bedroom featuring that bath, as well as a king-size bed and a separate ensuite room with a toilet and washbasin. There is then also a double bedroom as well as a twin bedroom, both with wardrobes and drawers and served by a family bathroom which has a bath with shower over. All rooms have radiators or heated towel rails. Each bedroom is beautifully themed and named after different nearby dales: Rosedale – just to the North, the heart of the moors, Farndale – renowned for the blankets of daffodils that stretch out along the river through the spring, and Ryedale – which makes up the Vale of Pickering to the south.
Within Lastingham there is a historic church, several holy wells, and a village hall where community events, all open to visitors, are held. The Blacksmith’s Arms is extremely popular with locals and travellers alike for the quality and value of their food. Dogs are welcome in their large beer garden which has shelters and heaters, and a wood-fired pizza oven.
Lastingham is two miles from Hutton-le-Hole, creating a popular circular walk. That picturesque village has a deli/bakery, pub, teashops, craft workshops and the Ryedale Folk Museum. Nearby are the market towns of Helmsley, Kirkbymoorside and Pickering - all with attractive market squares, independent shops and quaint tea rooms. Malton, Yorkshire’s Food Capital, is only half an hour away, with regular markets and festivals.
The heritage steam railway from Pickering passes through Goathland and Grosmont on its way to Whitby – all great for a stop. English Heritage properties nearby include the castles at Pickering and Helmsley, the superb Rievaulx Abbey and Wheeldale Roman Road. Castle Howard, Eden Camp, the National Centre for Birds of Prey, and the National Trust’s Nunnington Hall are also popular attractions within easy reach.
Less than an hour away you have the incredible Yorkshire Coastline to discover, with picturesque villages and towns, golden sandy beaches and hidden coves to explore. Saltburn-by-the-Sea, Whitby, Robin Hood’s Bay and Scarborough all make for a fabulous day out during your stay. Those travelling from further afield may also want to take the opportunity to visit York.

This attractive, light, semi-detached holiday cottage is over 200 years old and situated in a peaceful location which gives access to the Cleveland Way at the top of a cobbled road leading to the sea. It is well maintained and comfortably furnished retaining attractive features such as original beamed and timbered ceilings. Ideal for golf. Shop, pub and beach 150 yards.

This cottage wing adjoins the owner’s home, and set on a working farm within the National Park commanding outstanding views from the front of the house over the surrounding countryside. Well furnished and decorated throughout, it makes an excellent holiday home from which to visit the coast, which is 3 miles away, or tour or walk the National Park. It is an area surrounded by beautiful countryside and is well placed for visits to many other locations both inland and on the east coast. Horse riding locally. Fresh eggs available. This charming property stands adjoining the owners’ farmhouse and offers a peaceful retreat with dark skies in a quiet location, visited by deer, barn owls and buzzards. The owners may be away occasionally, but help will always be on hand should guests require it. A single-storey barn conversion, it is reached via a farm track (1/3 mile). A hotel is at the end of the farm drive, a bistro is opposite the hotel gates, and the village of Scalby, with its two pubs, café and village shop, is within walking distance. Scarborough, Filey, Robin Hood’s Bay and Whitby are nearby, and the farm is set on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, which is an excellent base for walking in stunning countryside. In an elevated position with panoramic views and set in its own garden in this extremely pretty and popular village this is an ideal holiday base. Lying on the edge of the National Park with Dalby Forest and the North York Moors within 3 miles. Whitby, 20 miles, with 3 miles of golden beaches and picturesque harbour. Family entertainment at Scarborough, 14 miles, and Flamingoland, 7 miles. Pickering 3 miles, with open market, castle and NYM steam railway. Shops, pubs and restaurants 200 yards.

Situated at Staithes, near Whitby, these former World War I army bunkers are in an idyllic position close to the countryside and sea. Four of the barracks have been ingeniously and tastefully transformed to provide good quality accommodation retaining much rustic character and charm. The remaining four lodges retain their near original condition as a visual reminder of their former function. Each refurbished lodge has the added advantage of free parking, an outdoor sitting area and bike parking racks.
Situated just off the Cleveland Way, there are many fine moorland and cliff top walks. There is a golf course and driving range in Brotton, 6¾ miles away, and at Scaling Reservoir, 7¼ miles, there is sailing and fishing. There is a leisure centre 2 miles down the road and a 2-minute stroll down the cobbled street brings you to the centre of the picturesque fishing village with its small harbour nestling beneath rugged cliffs. Step back in time and walk the quaint narrow passages, as Captain James Cook himself must have done. Here in Staithes there are village shops, pubs, cafés and a restaurant, and in 2020 the village was featured on the BBC programme ’Gone Christmas Fishing’ with Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer. Why not travel on Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Express (the North Yorkshire Moors Railway) through ’Heartbeat’ country, or visit Whitby and its famous abbey which is 11 miles away.
