Whitby is a fantastic destination for holidaymakers with the steam train departing throughout the summer on its way to Grosmont and Goathland – those famous villages used in the TV series ‘Heartbeat’. Also, Whitby boasts a colourful harbour, 3 miles of sandy beach, the 12th century Abbey ruins and St Marys Church. Situated in the popular seaside resort of Scarborough, close to the shops and restaurants and just under a mile from the beach, this terraced townhouse is perfect for a family holiday. The owners have catered for the children with a games room that has lots of games plus a pool table. Mill View House is in a quiet area of the town. From the house you can walk to either bay, north or south, both having long sandy beaches making them ideal for families. The North Bay is the quieter of the two and the South Bay has all that you would expect of a traditional seaside resort with donkeys, amusements and children’s rides. You can walk on the promenade the full length of both bays passing the castle perched up on the hillside. If you prefer to take a ride there’s an open top double decker bus that runs along the seafront.
Scarborough has many attractions with the open air theatre, the Scarborough Spa and the Stephen Joseph Theatre. On your walk down to the beach you pass Peasholm Park with it’s beautiful gardens and large lake, a fabulous place to take the kids, there’s boats and pedalos for them to play on. This is also where they do the famous re-enactment of a naval warfare miniature sea battle. The house is situated less than two minutes walk from the train station where you can go by train to York, a medieval city famous for its Minster. There’s so much to do in Scarborough which is why it’s popular both in the summer and winter months. An ideal spot for that family holiday.
Scarborough is just one of many family resorts down the east coast. Further down the coast and just a short drive away is Filey, Flamborough Head and of course the Victorian resort of Bridlington. There’s some fantastic walks along the cliff tops as this is part of the Cleveland Way so very popular amongst walkers. The RSPB bird sanctuary at Bempton is just a few minutes drive away where you can see puffins, gannets and seals in their natural habitat. This is one of the most visited bird sanctuary in the UK.

The seaside resort of Whitby is less than 4 miles away, at the mouth of the River Esk, home to cobbled streets and winding alleys, a picturesque harbour, glorious sandy beach, piers and a host of attractions. Visit the abbey and its famous 199 steps, which offer picturesque coastal views from the top, and take a guided tour to learn more about the history of the town. Scarborough is slightly further afield, with its two sandy beaches, separated by its 12th-century castle, along with Peasholm Park, a spectacular Japanese landscaped park, Aplamare, an exhilarating water park and spa, a SEA LIFE Centre and the North Bay Heritage Railway. You also have the coastal destinations of Robin Hood’s Bay, Staithes, Sandsend and Runswick Bay to discover.
On the edge of the North York Moors National Park, there is an abundance of walking and cycling opportunities, and varied landscapes ranging from vast moorland to wooded river valleys, quaint villages to dramatic coastline. Take a stroll along the cobbled alleyways and narrow streets or enjoy an exhilarating walk on the cliff-top Cleveland Way before heading out into the rugged North York Moors National Park. The National Cycle Network passes nearby and due to the popularity of the Tour de Yorkshire, the area is becoming more and more popular with road and mountain bike enthusiasts.
