Ironstone Cottage is in a peaceful village served by a little local shop, with the rolling heather clad moors just at the end of the road. These stone terraced cottages were built for the miners back in 1860. You can visit the nearby mining museum to find out more about the history, as this area was at the heart of the steel industry back in the 1800s. The name Ironstone Cottage was chosen to honour the history of the area, the owner’s father was employed to care for the pit ponies from the age of 11. Now the biggest draw to the area is tourism as guests explore the national park and the nearby beaches. There are a host of wonderful walks and cycle trails to explore, this is the perfect base for those who enjoy nature.
Just a short drive away you have Saltburn, Staithes and Runswick Bay leading down to the incredibly popular coastal town of Whitby, all ideal for a day of discovery. On the moors there are some stunning beauty spots such as Roseberry Topping as well as quaint rural villages with some great pubs, perfect as a reward after a day of walking.
There on street parking available by the cottage. At the back of the property you have an enclosed garden with a lawn and sitting out area, which is great for unwinding on a sunny evening, enjoying a bottle of wine. Inside the cottage is carefully furnished to create a comfortable and welcoming holiday home. The well equipped kitchen/dining area, is where you can reminisce over the day’s events over a delicious home cooked meal. The living room is separate and cosy, with sofas nestled around the TV. There is one unexpected surprise on the ground floor, an incredible whirlpool bath, which has bubbles, massage jets and lights. Upstairs you have a choice of three bedrooms, a double, a twin and a master king bedroom with an en-suite shower room. This property is the perfect choice for families, friends or two couples looking to create memories together. The North Yorkshire Moors is a fabulous and varied destination to explore, you can take a ride on the steam train which runs from the coast to visit many pretty rural villages, including Goathland which was the set for the popular TV show Heartbeat, as well as the Hogsmeade station in Harry Potter. There is also the Ryedale Folk Museum in Hutton le Hole with some lovely hand craft shops nearby. Beach 4½ miles. Shop 200 yards, pub 1 mile, restaurant 200 yards.

Forge Villa is a beautiful property situated in the village of Ebberston, on the southern edge of the North York Moors National Park. This area is very popular with cyclists as Dalby Forest can be accessed by the lane that runs to the north of the property. Dalby Forest in the past has hosted the World Cup mountain bike event, so there’s plenty of challenging runs for you to try. For those of you who enjoy a more leisurely trail, there’s miles of woodland paths for both bikers and walkers. The forest attracts international and UK visitors throughout the year, not just for the cycling, but for the many events that are held here, from concerts to educational nature visits for children.

The owner takes great pride in providing a beautiful holiday home, and Forge Villa has been decorated and furnished to a very good standard. The gardens are beautifully kept, with areas for nature to thrive, plus a colourful, wild flower meadow. Chafer Wood backs onto the grounds so you have lots of woodland walks for the dog. Access to the driveway is via a electric gate for added security, however please note parking is at own risk and the owners take no responsibility for loss or damage. There is a pub opposite so perfect for a drink after a busy day exploring the area.

The village of Ebberston is a short drive from the east coast, with Scarborough, Filey and Whitby close by. The popular market towns that Yorkshire is famous for, such as Malton, Pickering and Helmsley, are all within a short driving distance. Pickering is the nearest town, just 10 minutes away, and is home to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Here you can take a wonderful ride on a steam train and travel across the Moors to Whitby. Stop off at Goathland, the fictional village of Aidensfield in the ever popular TV programme ’Heartbeat’. Pickering is also host to the very popular ’1940’s Wartime Weekend’, an event held every year that takes over the whole town and attracts visitors as far away as the USA. The cottage is perfectly positioned on Church Street, in the centre of the historic coastal town of Whitby, with attractions including the iconic abbey, the harbour and the piers, all within easy reach. Independent shops, cafés and quaint pubs line this cobbled road, leading from the iconic swing bridge to the 199 steps.
Kitty’s Cottage is a listed building, and is set out over three floors, with quirky features harking back to its past, including beams and low door frames in some places. Stepping inside on the first floor you have the dining room at the front, with a corner sofa beside the window where you can take in the views over the water, making this an inviting social space. Up on the first floor, you have the master bedroom which is a luxurious, spacious room enjoying elevated views over the harbour where you can watch the world pass by. Up on the second floor, you have a quirky triple bedroom, to access the third bed you will need to duck under the eaves with a lowered bed tucked away beside a window, again with those fabulous views out across the harbour and beyond the piers out to sea.
The views from this cottage are one of the many highlights, you can see right up onto the west cliff opposite, where the Whalebone archway and the Captain Cook statue watch over the town. On your doorstep, Whitby awaits, with so much to see and do, including the ancient abbey, boat trips and water sports including surfing and paddle boarding. This beautiful coastal town with its glorious sandy beaches attracts guests from far and wide, as it has stunning scenery as well as a colourful history, and lots of attractions to visit as well as an array of independent shops and cafés, as well as both trendy cocktail bars and traditional pubs to explore.
Whitby is a seafaring town and proud of its heritage; there are tales of Viking invasions, heroic sea rescues as well as seafaring pioneers. Discover more at the museums, including one on a tall ship in the harbour. Today fishermen still sail from Whitby, there are many award-winning restaurants where you can sample freshly caught seafood. There are also festivals throughout the seasons including the bi-annual Goth weekends and the regatta making this a perfect all-year-round resort to visit.
The surrounding North York Moors National Park is full of moorland and woodland trails as well as the wonderful heritage steam railway. The steam train leaves Whitby and travels over the moors towards the market town of Pickering, with other picturesque villages along the way. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking a holiday feast. Upstairs you have two beautifully presented bedrooms, on the first floor is a double bedroom with views over the pantiled rooftops to the whale-bone archway up on the cliff tops. There is also the family bathroom. On the second floor is the family bedroom under the beamed ceiling with a double as well as a single bed and elevated views across the rooftops and out to sea. Outside as an additional quirky feature you have the original outhouse with a toilet, as well as a separate utility room.
You are only a 5-eminute walk away from the nearest beach, with a wide assortment of quirky independent shops, as well as cafés, restaurants and pubs all within easy reach and many being dog friendly. In the harbour there is the HMS Endeavour, a replica of Captain Cook’s ship which was built and sailed from Whitby on his voyages of discovery.
