If it’s the beach life you’re looking for then you’ll be spoiled for choice with the nearest beach being just 3 miles away. Much of the coastline in this area is owned by the National Trust and is a haven for wildlife, providing fabulous walking opportunities. There are many pretty coves and inlets to discover within a short drive including Crackington Haven, Boscastle, Morwenstow and stunning Tintagel, inextricably linked to the legend of King Arthur. Further afield the fishing port of Padstow is a popular tourist destination. Bude is a fabulous coastal town and has something for everyone including great beaches, rockpools and cafés to watch it all from. The rolling waves are great for surfing all year round and the footpaths by the restored canal or on the Southwest Coast Path offer you a superb opportunity to explore the outstanding countryside. Bude also has a superb golf course, indoor swimming pool, bowling alley/indoor play area and a heritage centre at Bude Castle.
Madison is also perfectly located for you to discover the many natural delights that North Devon has to offer such as Exmoor National Park with its magical night skies in Europe’s first ‘Dark Sky Reserve’, the many rugged coastal towns and quaint villages such as Hartland, Lynton & Lynmouth, Ilfracombe and the world-famous Clovelly Village. - Crackington Haven, EnglandBarn Cottage has beautiful decor and furnishings, a bright ambience, a south facing patio area to the rear which opens onto the village green and a wonderful walled garden to the front to enjoy the late afternoon sun. The home is split level, with the entrance and large kitchen/dining room on the mid floor and three of the peacefully decorated bedrooms all with plenty of storage, along with a family bathroom on the lower ground floor. A further short staircase leads to the living room and master bedroom on the first floor with those cracking views, and a Juliet balcony behind some French doors to maximise the view. A cosy wood burner in the living room will warm up those chillier days. The south facing patio garden is a sun trap during the summer and is adjoined by the village green, a large field where children can run off some steam! The walled garden, deck and paved area at the front offer a wonderful space to enjoy the late afternoon and evening sun. Here also is a large barn where surf boards, bicycles and outdoor equipment can be stored.
Rosecare is a quiet hamlet just up the valley from Crackington Haven in the parish of St Gennys. It is a beautiful walk down through the wooded valley to the beach. There you will find a pub, and two cafes situated next to the car park at the top of the beach, and will cater for most tastes. Crackington beach is covered by pebbles at high tide with plenty of rock pools to be explored but as the water recedes it exposes an expanse of golden sand which is one of the best surf spots in the county and is patrolled by lifeguards during the season. Crackington is equidistant between Widemouth Bay and Bude with a wide variety of restaurants and bars to the north and Boscastle to the south. There are majestic cliffs (Cornwall’s highest) just along the coast and some fantastically intriguing rock formations that are well worth a visit!
