Perfect for year round holidays and breaks, it is peacefully situated just a short stroll from the village inn and Rhydyronen station on the lovely Tanyllyn railway line. Just 2 miles away is Tywyn, with a good selection of shops, cafés and a lovely sandy beach, and fashionable and lively Aberdovey is just a little further round the coast. This is a superb location for enjoying lovely walks and cycling, with an abundance of wildlife and wonderful waterfalls to spot and enjoy. To the north of the village is Barmouth, start of the Mawddach Trail, which passes over Barmouth Bridge and follows the track bed of the old railway line along the Mawddach Estuary to Dolgellau. Bring your bucket and spade as the glorious sandy beach at Morfa Dyffryn is just a mile down the road and offers superb views over to the Rhinog Mountains. For the more adventurous, Zip World and Bounce Below at Blaenau Ffestiniog are a thrill seekers delight, whilst the famous Ffestiniog Railway and mighty Harlech Castle are also well worth a visit. From Barmouth, why not hire a bike and cycle across Barmouth Bridge and along the Mawddach Trail to Penmaenpool and Dolgellau? Beach 1 mile. Shops 300 yards, pubs and restaurants ½ mile.

Located in the coastal village of Fairbourne, this holiday property has a large lawned garden with great views of the mountains, yet is only a couple of minutes walk from the lovely, quiet, two-mile long sandy beach, over stones. Take a trip on the little Fairbourne Railway out to the headland and cross the Mawddach Estuary by ferry, and visit Barmouth where you can try crabbing in the harbour, or stroll across the famous Barmouth Bridge. Imagine yourself climbing Cader Idris, exploring the ruins of Castell-y-Bere, or riding behind a steam engine on the friendly Talyllyn Railway and hopping off the train to explore the waterfalls at Dolgoch or Nant Gwernol. This cottage for four, one of a pair, has many original features including beamed ceilings and a narrow staircase. Situated near the village of Talsarnau, it lies in the hills between Harlech and Porthmadog. With walks from the door into the hills and surrounding mountains, it is only a short drive across the estuary to the Italianate village of Portmeirion, designed by Sir Clough Williams Ellis and used for the series ‘Prisoner’. Nearby in the former slate quarrying town of Blaenau Ffestiniog, is Bounce Below, where you can bounce on trampoline nets in an underground slate cavern, and Zipworld Titan, the largest zip wire zone in the world, a real mecca for adrenaline enthusiasts. The famous Ffestiniog Railway also runs from Blaenau on a scenic journey down to the coast at Porthmadog. The Cambrian coastline includes Harlech with its castle and sandy beach and Barmouth, a harbour town with a mountainous backdrop, whilst in the other direction the Lleyn Peninsula features the seaside towns of Criccieth and Abersoch.

Castles can be found all over the area at Bala, Caenarfon and Harlech. If you like to get out in the fresh air, this is great walking country, why not tackle the peak of Cadair Idris? An iconic feature of the town is Barmouth Bridge, over 150-year-old railway viaduct across the Mawddach Estuary. It is half a mile in length with a wooden promenade suitable for pedestrians or cyclists which now forms part of the Wales Coast Path and the Lon Las Cymru Cycle Network. Nantcol waterfalls are just 5 miles away and offer a great day out, a perfect place for a family picnic whilst playing in the stream. From Barmouth you can explore the coastline by train too. Head north to Harlech with its magnificent castle. Further south is Tywyn, home of the Talyllyn Railway, where you can enjoy a ride on a narrow-gauge steam train into the hills to Nant Gwernol.
Above Barmouth is Dinas Oleu, the first part of land to be given to the National Trust and the views are well worth the steep climb. If you’re into adrenaline activities, be sure to visit Blaenau Ffestiniog and Zip World, home to the largest zip wire zone in the world, and Bounce Below. Beach ½ mile.

The village itself is steeped in history and folk lore. Sygun copper mine is just down the road and is well worth a visit for all ages. The area is considered the adventure capital of Wales and there are an abundance of opportunities for climbing, hiking, walking, cycling and water sports available. You can also ride a steam train on the Welsh Highland Railway to Caernarfon and nearby Porthmadog.
