    A scenic drive through Upper Swaledale takes you over the stunning Buttertubs Pass to the market town of Hawes with a plethora of shops, pubs and tea rooms, and on through Wensleydale, better known as the home of Wensleydale cheese from the Wallace and Gromit animations.
    A little further afield is Aysgarth with its stunning riverside walks and amazing waterfalls. Leyburn is also a popular market town, again with shops and tea rooms. Also close to Leyburn is Middleham with its Norman castle dating back to the 12th century, and connections to King Richard lll. Middleham is also well known for ‘The Gallops’ where racehorses are trained.
    The slightly larger market town of Richmond is within easy reach by car or bus and is well worth a vist. Here you will find yet another Norman castle, and a large cobbled market square surrounded by a shops, pubs and tea rooms, and there is even a Georgian theatre.
    Also worth a visit is the Forbidden Corner, an amazing Folly which makes an exciting day out for all the family, with secret passages, surprises at every turn, weird and wonderful gardens and a café for well deserved refreshments after all the excitement! After your adventures, drive back to Gunnerside through the villages of Lower Swaledale. Shop 6 miles.
