From the garden there are lovely views up onto the moor and at night, the dark sky makes for excellent stargazing. If you’re the outdoor type, there are some fabulous walks and cycle routes along the Granite Trail and Lydford Gorge (National Trust). If you fancy something a little more adventurous, go out trekking from the local horse riding stables in the village of Mary Tavy. Centrally located midway between the North and South coasts, there are beaches at Bude and Westward Ho! that are well worth the drive. Other highlights are Drogo Castle (National Trust), Roadford Lake, Tarka Trails at Gunnislake and a day trip to Plymouth, with it rich naval history, has lots to offer visitors. Beach 18 miles.
