Crescent by the Sea is within easy walking distance of the beach and long promenade which stretches along the seafront in this friendly seaside village. With four bedrooms and a lovely heated conservatory overlooking the enclosed lawned garden, this is a wonderful holiday home to spend time in with your family, friends or for couples to relax and unwind in.

Visitors to this comfortable holiday home will have a private parking space where you can leave the car and hop on a bus at the nearby bus stop to reach some lovely towns and villages. Newbiggin still has a few fishing boats and the lifeboat station is one of the oldest in England. The beach sweeps around the bay with the Church Point at one end with a lovely cliff top walk looking over the sea. The promenade is almost a mile long, a nice flat stroll in the evening, or in the mornings to blow away the cobwebs. Set in the centre of the promenade is a wonderful Italian ice cream parlour popular with locals and visitors, set on the piazza where you may be lucky to see live music on the bandstand in the summer. The village has all you need with an excellent bakery, takeaways, pubs, fruit shop, fish and chips and a good size supermarket.
Nearby Cresswell and Drurudge Bay has miles of unspoilt coast, then head north onto the Heritage Coast and discover the castles and villages that make Northumberland special. Day trips can be taken in all directions; a popular attraction is Hadrian’s Wall over to the west, stop off at a Roman fort en route. Holy Island is north and home to the Lindisfarne Gospels, reached by a causeway (check the tides). Steeped in history, it shouldn’t be missed whilst in the area. The pretty market town of Morpeth is only 8 miles with lots of excellent restaurants, bars and shops with an Edwardian shopping arcade. Head south to Tynemouth and Whitley Bay and walk along the vast promenade with plenty to see and do. Children may enjoy the Sea Life Centre. Newbiggin-by-the-Ssea is popular with surfers and paddle boarders and there is great sea fishing and rock pooling whilst admiring the only east coast offshore sculpture, ‘The Couple’, designed by Sean Henry.

For fun you could try Puzzling Place, a mind-boggling attraction based on optical illusions or the Derwent Pencil Museum, home to the largest pencil in the world. Or if you want a wild day out, try The Lake District Wildlife Park at Bassenthwaite being 8 miles away, or The Lakes Distillery offering daily tasting and tours, which is also only 8 miles from the property. If you like walking, cycling and climbing, you are surrounded by some amazing scenery and routes around Latrigg and Catbells, and nearby you’ll find Skiddaw, Blencathra and Helvellyn to name a few. Tucked away in a peaceful and secluded village setting, these five comfortably furnished holiday cottages are set in an idyllic location, only 5 miles from the spectacular Bamburgh Castle and one of the longest sandy beaches in England, and within a few minutes’ drive of Seahouses, where regular boat trips depart for the Farne Islands. Between the Cheviots and the sea, there is easy touring through the beautiful countryside with its numerous castles, stately homes and NT properties. Furnished to a high standard, and close to the owners’ home, Fordson offers single-storey accommodation and Ferguson is a detached two-storey cottage. The Mill House stands as a detached converted barn, with Waren View and The Granary Cottage forming an adjoining pair. This is an ideal choice for family holidays, with use of a very pleasant lawned area by a stream. There is also shared use of the owners’ hard tennis court nearby.

Warenford Village serves as an excellent base from which to discover Northumberland and the Scottish border country. Just 4 miles distant lies Budle Bay, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, as well as an SSSI, with the ancient walled town of Berwick-upon-Tweed (15 miles) and the Duchess of Northumberland’s ornamental gardens a short drive away. Created to rival the best in Europe, the gardens are contemporary in design and include waterfalls and cascading plumes set within landscaped grounds with themed planted areas. Also sure to delight both young and old alike is a visit to neighbouring Alnwick Castle, which served as the location for the Harry Potter films. Home of the Percy family, it stands as the second largest inhabited castle in England after Windsor Castle, with some of its rooms open to the public and displaying a wealth of decorative and fine art.

Within easy reach, too, is Holy Island – renowned for its medieval religious heritage, priory and picturesque castle – and also known by its Anglo-Saxon name of Lindisfarne. Accessed by a paved causeway at low tide, the island is popular with bird-watchers and nature lovers, with the north-western portion of the island being maintained as a nature reserve, where terns, plovers and seals can be observed. Whilst on the island, a trip to The Museum of Island Life will reveal former living and working conditions there, and St Aidan’s Winery tempts visitors with its sweet concoction of local Lindisfarne Mead.
There are quiet country lanes for cycling and several excellent golf courses nearby, as well as a selection of shops in Belford (3 miles) and good inns and restaurants in which to enjoy a family meal locally – the nearest pub with restaurant being just 30 yards.

Set on the edge of the Northumberland National Park, the location is excellent for exploring the spectacular scenery of the north of England, the Scottish borderland and the Lake District National Park, which is just an hour away. Nearby you can discover the Vindolanda Roman Fort, The Sill Landscape Discovery Centre and the world famous Sycamore Gap on Hadrian’s Wall. Also within easy reach is Haltwhistle, which is the ‘Geographic Centre of Britain’, with sports centre and outdoor heated swimming pools, and Burn Gorge. A must visit is the historic market town of Hexham, which boasts a stunning abbey, the oldest gaol in the country, and an abundance of eclectic shops, restaurants and pubs. Head to the RPSB reserve of Coquet Island to discover puffins, terns and eider ducks, and take a boat ride around the island to see it from a unique perspective, while wildlife lovers will also relish the chance to explore the Hauxley Wildlife Discovery Centre and birdwatching opportunities are prominent at Druridge Bay. 6 miles North brings you to the quaint town of Alnmouth, a popular coastal village known for its excellent 18-hole golf course and its charming cycle routes.
