Its attractive interior boasts many period features, such as beams and a superb inglenook fireplace in the living room. Commanding rooftop views of the one time smuggling town of Hastings, and far reaching views out to sea, this character holiday home, one of a row, is located on a very quiet street with houses on only one side. Visit Hastings Castle, Blue Reef Underwater World, St Clements Caves or explore the old town with its art galleries, quirky restaurants and shops within 5-10 minutes’ walk. For BMX and skate boarders visit the state of the art underground park in the one time home of the Victorian swimming baths complex located beneath Hastings’ prom. Camber Sands and the medieval Cinque Port town of Rye are a short drive, and there are local beaches at Hastings and St Leonards. There are also good rail connections to London. In the High Weald AONB and converted to a high standard, this attractive, single-storey barn is accessed via a track ¼ mile from the lane and lies quietly in 500 acres of Brightling Park (once known as The Rose Hill Estate) with sheep and horses on the farm. Brightling is famous for the many Fuller follies. Excellent walks on the doorstep. Visit Bateman’s (Kipling’s home) and Sarah Raven’s famous cutting garden at Perch Hill. Situated 300 metres from the beach, this holiday home lies close to the village of Elmer and within half a mile along the beach of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty which stretches several miles from Elmer to Littlehampton. The beaches in this area remain quiet, even during the busiest summer periods and with man made rock islands just off the shore and accessible at low tide, the beach is wonderful to explore and is ideal for swimming, fishing, windsurfing and walking. Elmer is an ideal location to explore many of the attractions of the south coast from bustling Brighton, 25 miles, to the east to historic Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight to the west. In between there are beautiful places such as Chichester with its cathedral and festival theatre, quaint Arundel, 5 miles to the north with its castle, river, antique shops and famous wetland bird centre, Goodwood and Fontwell race courses and the beautiful South Downs are all close by. Herstmonceux Castle with grounds and gardens is nearby, and is home to the Observatory Science Centre, providing spectacular hands-on science among the domes and telescopes of a world-famous astronomical observatory. Explore 7 acres of grounds and gardens at Michelham Priory, with the longest water-filled moat in England, 9 miles. Also, visit Pevensey Bay and Castle, where William the Conqueror landed in 1066, Burwash with Batemans, home to Rudyard Kipling and Charleston Farmhouse, home of the Bloomsbury set and decorated by Vanessa Bell, sister to Virginia Woolf, which are all within a short drive. Located roughly 5 miles north of Worthing and set within the green and pleasant hills of the South Downs National Park, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, “Manor Cottage” lies in the quaint west Sussex village of Findon.
The village has a popular range of shops, public houses and restaurants to visit and is also convenient for easy access to endless walking and riding via footpaths, bridlepaths and the South Downs Way. Findon is by-passed by the A24 and provides good access to London. You can spot the horses in action on the gallops. Walk part of the 100-mile South Downs Way with historic woodlands where you can smell the intoxicating scent of the bluebells in the spring. Look out for barn owls, kestrels, roe deer and red kites, and you may even be lucky enough to see hares boxing. Outdoor pursuits of paragliding, hang gliding, golf, zorbing, mountain boarding and water sports are all available nearby.
The coastal town of Worthing, where you can stroll along the promenade on the award-winning art deco pier, is 5 miles away. Other places to visit include RSPB Pulborough Brooks nature reserve, 8 miles, Parham House and Gardens, 7 miles, and Arundel with its historic castle, 10 miles.
