Come and enjoy all that Woodlands has to offer, nestled on the edge of the historic township of Laugharne within a wooded valley and just off the ’Grist’, the central hub of this truly charming town. It really does offer the perfect base to explore, enjoy a morning stroll with a coffee and a good book, and take a seat on the banks of the River Taf and take in the picture postcard views with Laugharne Castle, Dylan’s Boat House and Ferryside all in view. Laugharne was made famous by the poet Dylan Thomas, and to this day you can visit the Boat House which was once Dylan’s home, where he lived with his family, and which is now a museum, along with his writing shed, a must to visit. Within the town enjoy rambling around the Georgian townhouses and take in some of the fresh local produce and craft ales at some of fantastic eateries.

Woodlands has been lovingly restored by the current owners and they have retained all of the charm and character this property has to offer. This detached cottage has beamed ceilings and original wooden floors in the bedroom, and in the evening, enjoy cooking that special meal in the galley style kitchen which features granite work tops. A 5-minute drive away is the seaside resort of Pendine which is perfect for long walks, building sandcastles and exploring rook pools with your family. This 7 mile long beach is one of longest in West Wales, and where Malcolm Campbell set the world land speed record five times, hence its perfect for land sailing and kite buggying, or for a little relaxation try some fishing. The walled town of Tenby and Saundersfoot are only 30/40 minutes away and perfect for days out, along with Oakwood, Wales’s largest theme park, and Folly Farm Zoo. Beach 5 miles. One of Wales’ top attractions, Pembrey Country Park with its many footpaths, 8 miles of golden sandy beach, 550 acres of woodlands, dry ski slope and the longest toboggan run in Wales, is only a short drive away. Travelling inland, you will find the National Botanical Gardens of Wales, complete with the largest single span glass house in the world. Beach 4 miles. Shop 800 yards, pub 5 miles, restaurant 1 mile.

Take a bike ride in Lyn Llech Owain Country park, a 158 acre park of woods, lakes and forest tracks for those wanting a more leisurely ride, and for adrenaline junkies you can head to the rough mountain trails. At the end of a busy day, come back and relax in the lovely enclosed garden to the rear of the property and watch the sun go down.
If it is walks you are looking for then there are plenty of sites to visit in this area. Head down to the Four Waterfalls in Ystradfellte and take in the natural beauty of the Welsh land and see the water cascading over the rocks. Head on down to the National showcase caves at Dan yr Ogof for a great day out for kids and adults. Beach 23 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

Within an hour drive you could reach the popular coastal town of Tenby to the West, or Swansea city to the East.

Despite the rural setting, Y Gelli is perfectly placed to explore some of the nearby attractions. In under 30 minutes by car, you could be exploring the beach and country park at Pembrey, visiting picturesque Welsh towns along the River Towy like Carmarthen and Llandeilo, or immersing yourself in history at Kidwelly Castle! If that’s not enough, you can visit the world’s largest single-span glasshouse at the National Botanic Garden of Wales, tee-off at one of the nearby golf clubs, or check out some horse racing at Ffos Las Racecourse. Further afield, South Wales has so much to offer and Y Gelli is conveniently located to make the most of your stay in South Wales. Beach 8 miles.

Bwlchygwynt is a barn conversion that has been renovated to a high standard in 2023, making this a great place for a family vacation or friends looking to explore this great area. The large living and dining space is perfect for a social evening, and the wood burner will be a treat to keep you warm and snug on a chillier night; there is also underfloor heating on the ground floor that will keep toes and paws warm throughout your stay.
Set on the owner’s land, this fabulous barn has far-reaching views of the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons and a good-sized enclosed lawned garden, perfect for letting your children and four-legged friends out for some fresh air. The dark skies here mean that the stars can be seen without any light pollution, so you can sit in the enclosed garden with a glass of something fizzy and enjoy what the night skies have to offer. There are some splendid walks to be had from the front door of this property and lots to discover in the area. The Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons National Park are easily reached, or you can visit the historic wells of Llanwrtyd or Llangammarch.
Llandovery is situated 4½ miles away on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park, whilst 8 miles away is Myddfai, famous for its physicians. The area is full of beautiful walks and bridleways, with an RSPB nature reserve near Llyn Brianne Reservoir and the beautiful forests of Cwm Rhaeadr and Crychan are a short distance away. The local area is also steeped in history. The county of Carmarthenshire, known as ’The Garden of Wales’ has become a big draw for walkers, cyclists, anglers and lovers of the outdoors and is the largest county in southern Wales, stretching from Carmarthen Bay in the south to the western Brecon Beacons and Cambrian Mountains in the north. It offers rich landscapes, gardens, ancient castles, wildlife and sandy beaches as well as market towns brimming with local produce, chic shopping and eateries.
Llandeilo is one such town, less than 30-minute drive away and is full of boutique shops, cafés and restaurants. Other places of interest nearby include National Trust Dolaucothi Goldmines (tours available) and the lakes of Llyn Brianne and Llyn-y-Fan Fach, the lake that gave rise to the Arthurian legend of the Lady of the Lake.
