The famous spa town of Buxton home to the Opera House, Pavilion Gardens and Health Spa is around a 15-minute drive, and the ever popular market town of Bakewell around 20-minutes. Dovedale, home to the famous stepping stones, Ashbourne and Chatsworth House can all be reached in around 30-minutes as can Britain’s premier theme park Alton Towers.

Tawny Barn is located on the outskirts of the village of Longnor which sits around 7 miles from the nearest town of Buxton, and just under 10 miles to the Staffordshire town of Leek. You can walk directly from your doorstep onto the Manifold Valley trail or into the village of Longnor which is just over 1 mile, where you will find a local shop and a good pub. Should you choose to visit the local towns, Buxton has a lot to offer with a fantastic park known as the Pavilion Gardens, The Opera House which has shows on weekly or its many places to eat and shop. There are further local walks to be enjoyed such as the High Peak Trail, Tissington Trail, Monsal Head or a walk across Dovedale’s famous stepping stones.
If you enjoy history then a visit to Chatsworth House is a must, just under 15 miles from the property, Chatsworth House is a magnificent stately home which you can walk through, enjoy the gardens, or if you have children with you, the farm yard is great fun; call in at the farm shop before you head back home. If you are a thrill seeker, Tawny Barn lies just 16 miles away from Alton Towers Theme Park, open seasonally. A quick 15-minute journey into Ashbourne means it is a must visit for your time here, you can amble around the town enjoying the shops, cafes and pubs or head to Dovedale, which is famous for the stepping stones to cross the river. There are some good trail routes nearby such as Tissington Trail and High Peak trail, both good for walking and cycling. There are walking routes take are directly from the properties too in which you can walk for miles or keep it short and sweet, whichever you prefer.
Alton Towers theme park lies just a couple of miles from Ramsor Farm and makes for a great day out for all the family with a mixture of rides for different ages as well as Splash Landings water park. Another great place to visit is Peak Wildlife Park where you come face to face with iconic species and have a ‘walk through’ experience. White Park Cottage is the largest of the two barn conversions on Broad Ecton Farm. The ground floor has an open plan, social space made up of the kitchen, dining and living space. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you should need during your stay to rustle up your favourite meals. The living area has comfortable seating and a TV plus a dining table with chairs. There is warming underfloor heating throughout the property. The first double bedroom is located on the ground floor, up a few steps and has an en-suite shower room. On the first floor are two further bedrooms made up of two doubles, and a family bathroom with shower over bath.
The location is central to many walking routes, with the most popular being the Manifold Valley just over the hill; from the door you can take on different hikes each day, never needing to take the car if you don’t wish. Aside of walks, there are many tourist attractions such as Alton Towers theme park. The nearest village of Hartington lies just a few miles away and features a famous cheese shop which is a must visit, you can also hop on the Tissington Trail or the High Peak Trail. Easter Lane Cottage is a beautiful, historic property, set in a quiet spot on the edge of the picturesque village of Butterton in the Staffordshire Moorlands. The cottage lies in the south-west part of the White Peak and is an excellent base for those wishing to enjoy all the Peak District has to offer. The cottage is within easy reach of towns such as Leek, Ashbourne and Buxton which all are worth a visit. They all offer independent shops and cafés, as well as high street names, plenty of restaurants and bars, and Buxton also has the opera house, where you can watch shows making for a good night out. There are also several National Trust Properties nearby and the Peak Wildlife Park is within 5 miles. If you are more of a thrill seeker, then Alton Towers is a mere 10-mile drive.
Butterton sits high above the Manifold Valley. From the cottage, you can get straight onto this trail and walk for miles, connecting to other neighbouring trails. Some of the most beautiful scenery in the Peak District is within easy reach. Tissington Trail - popular with walkers and cyclists - is only 5 miles away. The local inn in Butterton is less than a quarter of a mile from the cottage and offers delicious food and ales. The property has been renovated to a high standard in 2023 with sustainable materials and underfloor heating to the ground floor.
As you drive through Butterton, to get to the cottage you pass through a ford, and from there you can see this inviting and welcoming cottage. There is ample parking outside and the stream runs by creating a relaxing atmosphere as you listen to the sounds of the water whilst enjoying the large garden this property offers. Inside the house is a kitchen with all the appliances and equipment you should need to make your favourite meal, a dining table that seats all guests, and the cute addition of a cushioned window bench; the dining room has patio doors opening it up to the garden, which has great views through fields to the distant hills. The sitting room is a comfortable and cosy space with a roaring wood burning stove to warm up in front of, after a day of walking or exploring. Hop in the car and you can be in Buxton town centre in under 10 minutes, this town is full of independent shops and cafés, it has delicious restaurants with all cuisines on offer. Buxton Opera House has shows on weekly and take a stroll around the Pavilion Gardens or visit the refurbished Crescent Spa for some rest and recreation ! Other neighbouring towns include Leek, Ashbourne, Bakewell and Matlock, all offering a variety of activities to suit all the family.
