The traditional village inn is just a short walk away and has a menu featuring local produce. The village shop is also just a short walk away. Bude has three sandy beaches and a good selection of shops and restaurants, many specialising in locally caught seafood, along with a golf course, tennis, horse riding, an indoor splash pool, surf schools and bowling. The picturesque fishing villages of Tintagel, home to the mystical ruins of a 12th-century castle, Rock and Padstow are close by, and this breathtaking coastline boasts many unspoilt beaches and hidden coves. The wild beauty of Dartmoor, Exmoor and Bodmin moors are all within easy driving distance, as is the fabulous Eden Project. The valley is a treat for all the family whatever the time of year and is only a short walk from these three properties. Home to what has been regarded as ‘the most beautiful walk in Cornwall’ the area takes you through deeply wooded paths, picturesque streams and under an ancient viaduct that once carried Cornwall’s china clay, tin and granite barges through to the north. It is just a short stroll to Prideaux Wood where the Saints’ Way walk can be found, 27 miles of historic footpath that leads all the way from the fishing village of Fowey on the south coast to the harbour town of Padstow in the north. The path is steeped in historic Cornish interest rambling through ancient ruins and a whole tapestry of poignant history. For coastal walking, the Cornish cliffs allow walkers to take in the invigorating Atlantic air and enjoy incredible ocean vistas. This area of Cornwall is rich in historic homes and gardens including the world famous Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan -a restored Victorian masterpiece that was lost to the world for many years and is forever linked with the village of Mevagissey on the south coast. There are many other gardens of interest including Caerhays, Tregahan and Trelissick on the Roseland Peninsula. The south coast also has many outstanding beaches, cliff walks, secluded coves and historic seafaring towns such as Falmouth and Fowey which are within easy reach of Prideaux. Fowey, renowned as the home of Daphne du Maurier, a royal yacht club and annual regatta, is within 5 miles and has plenty of restaurants, excellent pubs, cafes, galleries and shops. From here a boat can be taken along the coast and to maybe catch sight of dolphins in the bay. Sea fishing trips, kayaking and sailing can all be enjoyed from Fowey. The harbour town of Padstow is 4 miles, and has much to offer with its famous Seafood Restaurant, boat trips and sea fishing.
Take a drive along the National Trust coastline to Land’s End and discover the open theatre in the cliffs at Porthcurno and the Minack. Golf and pony trekking at Trevose. Ideally positioned for visiting Charlestown Harbour, the fabulous Eden Project, Port Isaac or The Lost Gardens of Heligan. There are various beautiful sandy bays and hidden coves within 5 miles. This attractive, detached traditional Cornish cottage is set in peaceful countryside with panoramic views across the Camel Estuary from all windows, with some exposed walls and flag stone hall, it makes an excellent holiday home. Family friendly kitchen/dining area leads onto the patio with built in barbecue, as do French doors from the sitting room, complete with a cosy woodburning stove. Outside extensive lawns overlook the estuary. Bring your bikes or walk along the Camel Trail to Wadebridge, a bird watchers paradise for migrant and estuary birds, or for fish and chips at Ric Stein’s in Padstow and a boat trip around the Puffin Island. This is a perfect location for visits to Tintagal, The Eden Project, tropical gardens and inland mining towns. Newquay is about 18 miles away. There are miles of sandy beaches popular with surfers and swimmers, and excellent golf courses north and south of the estuary. A supermarket and petrol station are only 1.25 miles away. Fairview (CWC561946) is a reverse level, semi-detached cottage with an entrance on the first floor and a large living/dining room, a cosy wood-burning stove, there is a west-facing conservatory down a couple of steps with sofa and access to a small private garden. A family bedroom on the first floor provides a level living area for those with a mobility issue. On the ground floor are further bedrooms and a family bathroom. Barn Cottage (CWC562587) is also a reverse level, semi-detached cottage with two bedrooms on the ground floor.
This is a real farm experience, fresh free-range eggs are available from the owners, and there are a number of walks across the delightful 150 acres. This is a dog-friendly property however please note that it is a working Beef and Sheep farm, so dogs must be kept under control.
Further along the coast is Sandymouth, a large beach ideal for families due to its lovely sand, rock pools and tea rooms. A short drive north over the border into Devon leads to the quaint village of Hartland which has a magnificent church with an amazing painted ceiling and one of the tallest towers in England. Hartland Quay has a hotel and Wreckers Bar as the coast here is littered with wrecks and is a lovely spot for some lunch. Also well worth a visit is the world-famous fishing village of Clovelly. The cobbled, traffic-free, high street is built into a cleft in a 400’ high cliff and tumbles its way down past whitewashed cottages festooned with flowers to the tiny working port. Beach 2 miles.

Polean Farm Cottages are located in Cornwall, down green lanes, off the Looe to Polperro road, just outside the village of Pelynt. The farm is set amongst rolling farmland and is less than 2 miles from the sea. All of the cottages are full of character and provide a cosy home-from-home. They have all been converted from original farm buildings which date back to the 18th century.
The Old Farmhouse (ref UK12895) is a historical, semi-detached farmhouse which has been tastefully renovated and is perfect for a large family get together or for two families to holiday together.
Little Owls Cottage (ref UK12896) is a detached barn named after the owls that still live in the nesting boxes around the building which can sometimes be heard at night. It is set in its own garden with glorious views across the farm and towards the village of Pelynt.
Rosebud Cottage (ref UK12897) and Shires Rest (ref UK12899) are pleasant, beamed cottages with lovely countryside views. Before being converted, both cottages were used to store hay in the winter and you can still see many of the original features.
Threpney Cottage (ref UK12898) is an imaginatively converted ’roundhouse’ and is full of character. The cottage was named after the old twelve sided three penny piece due to its shape.
Twinkles Cottage (ref UK12900) is a charming and spacious ‘upside down’, beamed cottage, with great views across the farm and surrounding countryside.
Waggoners Cottage (ref UK12901) is a delightful single-storey cottage, with its own garden and views of the front fields and the children’s play area at the rear. The cottage was named after the wagons that used to be stored in it and you can still see many of the original features of the barn.
The Mealhouse (ref UK12902) was originally used to store the feed or ‘meal’ for the pigs that resided in the pig sty which can still be seen across from it. The Mealhouse is detached and set slightly apart from the other cottages, offering uninterrupted views across the farm.
Polean Farm provides the perfect destination for a family holiday. The farm offers animal feeding each week day morning, where you may help bottle feed lambs (seasonal) and hand feed pigmy goats and chickens, as well as enjoy pony or tractor rides! The farm is also a working livery yard and children and parents often enjoy visiting the horses and ponies each day.
Guests have free use of an indoor heated swimming pool just a few minutes’ drive away. It’s perfect for families and children who want to splash around or those wanting to put in a few lengths and keep fit. Guests are also welcome to make free use of the nightly entertainment at the same local holiday complex which is just a few minutes’ drive from the farm. The entertainment is on every night and includes children’s entertainment, followed by grown up entertainment with top musicians, performers and comedians regularly appearing throughout the season. Children are allowed in the venue for the whole evening. Please note, the pool is not available during August due to overcrowding, and entertainment is not available November-March (except during school holidays).
