This charming property offers a comfortable stay for the whole family to enjoy. Set over two floors, you enter the property into a spacious hallway with the living room to your left and the dining room straight ahead. The living room is a cheerful cosy space perfect for relaxing in front of the Smart TV after a long day of adventures. The dining room is well equipped for entertaining and with the kitchen set to the left it makes a perfect place to relax whilst a hearty meal is being prepared. The kitchen has fully integrated appliances and offers everything needed to cook up a storm for the whole family. The kitchen leads you straight out into the idyllic gardens, a truly tranquil and relaxing environment to enjoy the sun or al fresco dining. The garden is beautifully presented and offers a luxury outdoor haven which can be enjoyed by all the family. Upstairs there are three bedrooms, all with wardrobes and dressing tables and each being individually designed with the main bathroom situated to the right of the third bedroom.
The town of Wooler is a great base for keen walkers who are looking to make the most of the Northumberland countryside, and wanting to visit the Cheviot Hills and Northumberland National Park for some fantastic walking and stunning scenery. Tarn House is only a minutes’ walk from Wooler High Street, with a variety of independent shops, cafés and pubs, and 5 minutes walk from the River Till and Doddington Milk Bar. To the east is the magnificent coastline of Northumberland, which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with great trips to be had to Bamburgh Castle, Holy Island of Lindisfarne, Seahouses harbour, or the birdwatcher’s paradise of The Farne Islands. For those who want day trips further afield there are regular trains from Berwick-Upon-Tweed that will take you to Edinburgh or Newcastle in an hour. Whatever your reason for visiting this northern part of England, you will love coming home to Tarn House every evening.

Lovingly furnished, The Byre is set over three levels. Upstairs you will find the master bedroom with a kingsize bed and en-suite bathroom. A further double bedroom and a twin room are located downstairs as well as a family bathroom, well-equipped kitchen/dining room and spacious living area. To the back of the property is an enclosed garden with decking that houses a fantastic hot tub, the ideal place to sit back, relax and enjoy your holiday! The Byre is close to Chatton Trout Fishery, a well-stocked 14-acre lake trout fishery which provides an excellent day out for any keen participants!

Chatton is a picturesque village that has a shop and a pub which serves food. Slightly further afield is the friendly small town of Wooler (known locally as Glendale; the inspiration for ‘Postman Pat’s, Greendale’) only 5 miles inland. This is a popular destination for those who enjoy cycling, golf, horse riding and walking with the challenging St Cuthbert’s Way close by.

Bamburgh is renowned for its majestic fortress and beautiful expanse of golden, sandy beach and is only 11 miles east. The elegant Georgian town of Berwick-upon-Tweed, which straddles the salmon rich River Tweed, and the cobbled, market town of Alnwick, protected by its dramatic castle, both offer a wide array of amenities around half an hour’s drive away. Alnwick Garden is a popular visitor attraction to see the Grand Cascade Waterfall and dine in the restaurant within the largest tree house in Europe! This is England’s Borderland and is often referred to as ’the secret kingdom’. Beach 10 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.

Step out your front door and stroll to the shops, cafes, pubs, and restaurants in this small market town set on the edge of the National Park. It is said that "Postman Pats’s Greendale" is based on Wooler, being the gateway to the Cheviots.

West House is only 15 miles from Berwick on Tweed, with a beautiful beach and plenty of shops and history. Northumberland is such a diverse and friendly county with the beautiful Heritage Coast only 15 miles to Bamburgh, with a cliff top castle from where you can follow the trail and take in the history, a lovely day trip. Holy Island Causeway is only 14 miles where the Lindisfarne Gospels were kept (check the tides). The location really is ideal for exploring in all directions of Northumberland and Scotland’s Border counties.

Wooler itself has that country feeling while still having a market town buzz, combining home comforts with countryside. You can be hiking the Cheviot Hills in the morning and having a local beer in one of the nearby pubs on an evening. St Cuthbert’s Way walk passes via Wooler, a 62-mile route following the ancient pilgrimage route, followed by St Cuthbert and many other monks between Melrose Abbey in the Scottish Borders and the Holy Island of Lindisfarne in north Northumberland. Standing proudly at the foot of the Cheviot Hills, on the edge of the glorious Northumberland National Park and only 15 miles from the alternating sands and rocks of the coastline, Akeld Manor cottages (refs MDW, MED, MFO, MGG, MGH, MJB, MJC and MJD) offer the perfect setting for a holiday in England’s fascinating and beautiful Border country. The gracious Manor House and its cluster of cottages and mellow stone buildings have been sensitively renovated and converted to create an outstanding collection of holiday properties.
The cottages are set in acres of shared grounds, which offer space for relaxing and for children to play, and they lie within 2 miles of the shops and inns at Wooler.
The Northumberland National Park stretches south through Kielder and Wark Forests as far as Hadrian’s Wall, and north to the Scottish border. Long stretches of sand can be found lining the coast south of Berwick-upon-Tweed, 16 miles. At Beal, 13 miles, the road to Holy Island runs gently down to the shore, where it becomes a causeway covered and impassable at high tide.

These quaint cottages, some of which have originally been cartsheds and byres are charmingly set in small groups within the spacious and colourful grounds. The large Manor House (which provides accommodation for parties of 15), also has a splendid large walled garden allowing total privacy. The setting of these cosy cottages is intriguing, many with small courtyards and gardens, a truly interesting and imaginative conversion full of detail and character – the individual and tasteful interiors are delightful. Tucked away in a peaceful and secluded village setting, these five comfortably furnished holiday cottages are set in an idyllic location, only 5 miles from the spectacular Bamburgh Castle and one of the longest sandy beaches in England, and within a few minutes’ drive of Seahouses, where regular boat trips depart for the Farne Islands. Between the Cheviots and the sea, there is easy touring through the beautiful countryside with its numerous castles, stately homes and NT properties. Furnished to a high standard, and close to the owners’ home, Fordson offers single-storey accommodation and Ferguson is a detached two-storey cottage. The Mill House stands as a detached converted barn, with Waren View and The Granary Cottage forming an adjoining pair. This is an ideal choice for family holidays, with use of a very pleasant lawned area by a stream. There is also shared use of the owners’ hard tennis court nearby.

Warenford Village serves as an excellent base from which to discover Northumberland and the Scottish border country. Just 4 miles distant lies Budle Bay, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, as well as an SSSI, with the ancient walled town of Berwick-upon-Tweed (15 miles) and the Duchess of Northumberland’s ornamental gardens a short drive away. Created to rival the best in Europe, the gardens are contemporary in design and include waterfalls and cascading plumes set within landscaped grounds with themed planted areas. Also sure to delight both young and old alike is a visit to neighbouring Alnwick Castle, which served as the location for the Harry Potter films. Home of the Percy family, it stands as the second largest inhabited castle in England after Windsor Castle, with some of its rooms open to the public and displaying a wealth of decorative and fine art.

Within easy reach, too, is Holy Island – renowned for its medieval religious heritage, priory and picturesque castle – and also known by its Anglo-Saxon name of Lindisfarne. Accessed by a paved causeway at low tide, the island is popular with bird-watchers and nature lovers, with the north-western portion of the island being maintained as a nature reserve, where terns, plovers and seals can be observed. Whilst on the island, a trip to The Museum of Island Life will reveal former living and working conditions there, and St Aidan’s Winery tempts visitors with its sweet concoction of local Lindisfarne Mead.
There are quiet country lanes for cycling and several excellent golf courses nearby, as well as a selection of shops in Belford (3 miles) and good inns and restaurants in which to enjoy a family meal locally – the nearest pub with restaurant being just 30 yards.

Tucked away in a quiet courtyard, this delightful refurbished stone built cottage provides very attractive welcoming accommodation in the oldest part of Seahouses. Only a short walk from the beach and busy harbour, it provides an excellent base for a seaside holiday. The many attractions of the Heritage Coast and award winning countryside are within a few minutes drive. Shops, pubs, restaurants, and an 18 hole links golf course all nearby. Driftwood Cottage is idyllically situated only a stone’s throw from the gorgeous sandy beach of Newton-by-the-Sea. With four steps up to the entrance, this semi-detached barn conversion is conveniently all on one level. The open plan living area is a bright and airy space to relax. A pub renowned for serving excellent food is available in the village. Embleton is only a couple of miles south where there are more pubs, a village shop and its own stretch of golden sands. Heading 4 miles north is the popular holiday village of Beadnell where its golden sweeping sands are popular with water sport enthusiasts, offering wind surfing, diving and sea kayaking. The traditional fishing port of Seahouses is a short drive up the coastline, where boat trips to the nearby Farne Islands, famous for its bird sanctuaries and seal colony, depart regularly from its harbour.
Take time to visit the picturesque village of Bamburgh where its dramatic castle is an impressive visitor attraction. A few miles inland is the historic market town of Alnwick where its own castle is the home to the Duke of Northumberland.
