The market town of Alnwick with its castle, Alnwick Gardens, and a wide array of independent shops, galleries and eateries is within just 8 miles. The picture-postcard town of Rothbury sitting at the foot of the Simonside and Lordenshaw Hills, with Cragside Hall on its outskirts, 9 miles away. Wooler is a welcoming market town 11 miles from the property, nestled at the foot of the Cheviot Hills and offering a good selection of shops, pubs, and restaurants. Walkers and cyclists will enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the surrounding countryside with its many challenging or less strenuous walks or trails close by, and any stargazers will delight in the dark sky offerings on the doorstep. The Northumberland Heritage Coast is less than 15 miles east and there are no less than 10 castles to explore within 25 miles, with many Iron Age discoveries to be had very close to the property. The local tourist information centre is also located here. The small town of Bellingham is only 9 miles away with a golf course, cafés and pubs as well as a supermarket. The town has a quirky tearoom set in old carriages with a small visitor centre telling the history of the invasions from the Scots around the area.

The Northumberland Heritage Coastal route is easily reachable for a lovely day trip out where you can visit Alnwick Castle which was used in some ‘Harry Potter’ scenes. Perfectly situated near to the banks of the River Derwent with a boat house and fishing permits available for a small fee, guests who enjoy river fishing will be spoilt for choice. Also just a few hundred yards from the Derwent Walkway as well as a variety of established public footpaths, walks and cycling routes, there is no better base for enjoying and exploring the local area. Then leading further out into County Durham, Northumberland, the Northumberland National Park and the stunning North Pennines. Only half a mile from the village of Ebchester, there are plenty of amenities and facilities right on the doorstep. A local village pub, excellent restaurants and a village shop are at the heart of this thriving community and within easy walking distance from the lodges. Golf lovers will be able to book a place on the famous Slaley Hall course just 15 miles away or the closer course at Consett which is just 3 miles away. The cathedral city of Durham, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is only 15 miles away and well worth a visit.
