Looking for something a little out of the ordinary for a getaway in rural Northumberland? Then look no further than this quirky, Alpine-style holiday lodge. Nestling in beautiful grounds, the lodge has outside terraces and secret gardens, perfect for relaxing and taking in the sounds of the birds and the beautiful views of the surrounding countryside.
Inside it is charming and quirky. The open plan living space and dining area are perfect for that special get-together with friends or family. There is a large wood burner for the cooler nights, with comfy sofas to curl up on. Décor is as you would expect of a lodge, with wooden floors and panelling, tartans and checks and it has a wonderful homely feel to it. Comfortably catering for up to six people, with a well-equipped shaker style kitchen and modern appliances. Should you wish to rustle up brunch or a hearty supper. Upstairs are three good sized bedrooms with king size, super king and twin beds. The kingsize bedroom has doors leading out onto a spacious decked balcony where you can sit and enjoy views of the gardens and beyond. A large bathroom with sumptuous underfloor heating completes this floor. Outside is where the fun begins. Find a quiet spot to read a book, or set the table and enjoy an al fresco supper. Steps lead off into a secluded garden with fruit trees and benches to sit and a raised pergola, a perfect spot to sit and enjoy a glass of bubbly. The garden opens up into a paddock and the most amazing wall to wall views of the Tyne Valley and North Cumbrian Fells. An elevated decking area sits in the farthest spot with uninterrupted views of the countryside beyond. As night draws in, take a warm throw to wrap up and sit and experience the amazing starry skies above Northumberland.
Out and about this is a fabulous place to explore with so much to see and do. Set on the edge of the Northumberland National Park, the location is excellent for exploring the spectacular scenery of the north of England, the Scottish borderland and the Lake District National Park, which is just an hour away. Nearby you can discover the Vindolanda Roman Fort, The Sill Landscape Discovery Centre and the world famous Sycamore Gap on Hadrian’s Wall. Also within easy reach is Haltwhistle, which is the ‘Geographic Centre of Britain’, with sports centre and outdoor heated swimming pools, and Burn Gorge. A must visit is the historic market town of Hexham, which boasts a stunning abbey, the oldest gaol in the country, and an abundance of eclectic shops, restaurants and pubs. Continue to the beautiful Roman town of Corbridge and meander round its boutique shops, art galleries and antique shops, stop for a coffee or take a stroll along the river. Locally there is an abundance of eateries to choose from. A nearby inn serving good food and ales offers astronomers a star gazing experience and is a 20-minute walk away, with nearby Haltwhistle, Bardon Mill and Hexham offering a range of pubs and restaurants. Set in the small hamlet of Netherton, a few miles from the pretty town of Rothbury and only 4 miles from Thropton with two excellent pubs both doing food. Netherton is only 3 miles from the Northumberland National Park so is ideal for walkers and cyclists. The location is set in the middle of the county so perfect for exploring in all directions, maximising your time in Northumberland.
The beautiful Heritage Coast can be reached in just 18 miles, where miles of golden beaches and castles await. Hadrian’s Wall is around 40 miles, while the border towns in Scotland are a mere 32 miles and are steeped in history. Visit Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland and featured in some Harry Potter scenes, only 18 miles away. Northumberland is a diverse county with miles of beautiful beaches, inland moors, a Gold Tier International Dark Sky National Park, Hadrian’s Wall stretching from east to west steeped in history and a trip to Newcastle to see the wonderful architecture.
After a days exploring, what better cottage to come home to than Wisteria Cottage, sitting in the lovely garden or conservatory, or snuggling up in the living room on an evening. Beach 19½ miles. Shop 6 miles, pub and restaurant 4 miles.

Murton Whitehouse Steading is a U-shaped steading, sympathetically converted into six cottages, all with private gardens and grouped around a central courtyard. An ideal getaway for a family or a small group, this cottage at Murton Whitehouse Steading will comfortably sleep up to six people. On the ground floor of this charming house, you’ll enjoy preparing meals and snacks in the kitchen/dining room, utilising the door out to the garden while the kids play, and whoever isn’t cooking can enjoy a glass of wine in the sunshine. If it’s not as sunny and warm; the view is equally as nice. Two of the bedrooms are downstairs, including the largest of the three, which has an en-suite shower room. Also on the ground floor is a very useful shower room, accessed from the spacious hallway. The remaining bedroom on the grounds floor is a twin room. Upstairs, the main living room shared the floor with the third bedroom. The main bathroom completes this floor.

Within 100 yards of the property is a riding school and there are various walks available through the beautify countryside from the steading. The historic town of Berwick-upon-Tweed is approximately 3 miles away, with the Elizabethan town walls, well worth strolling arounds. Berwick has a thriving compliment of restaurant and pubs – you may be surprised to learn that ‘Lowry’ painted many pictures of the area. This park of Northumberland is famed for the spectacular coastline beached with views of the turbulent past within close proximity. Unmissable places to visit include Holy Island of Lindisfarne, Bamburgh Castle and Chillingham Castle. Edinburgh is 60 miles away, as is Newcastle. The Cheviot Hills are close by with numerous walking routes, whilst the Scottish Border is within 5 miles and the pretty coastal village of Eyemouth is less than a 20-minute drive. If you are lucky, you might be able to see the dolphins in the harbour.
