This single-storey, semi-detached barn conversion, next to the owners’ home, has been renovated with great attention to detail, with eco-friendly, underfloor air source heating throughout and a very good standard of fixtures and fittings. Explore both the coast and the countryside from this property, as it is an excellent base for walking and touring. The Yorkshire Wolds, one of Britain’s best kept secrets, runs to the south of the village, and there is miles and miles of long countryside walks. The North Yorkshire Moors and the east coast are just a short drive away, and the seaside resorts of Filey and Scarborough have great beaches for the family for that traditional seaside holiday. Within the hour you can be in the city of York with its abundance of renowned attractions, including the iconic Minster, Castle Museum and the Jorvik Viking Centre. This cosy detached cottage making a romantic retreat, is Grade II listed and dates back to 1760. It has been tastefully renovated to a very good standard and benefits from an underfloor heated limestone tiled floor throughout the ground floor. Outside there is a large, enclosed, riverside garden, on the opposite side of a road that leads directly into the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. It has a shared patio with a sitting-out area, a further riverside secluded seating area, garden furniture, BBQ and summerhouse. Although shared with the owners it is available to guests and their pets to enjoy at all times. Within the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, East Ayton is a village just a few minutes’ drive from the seafront at Scarborough. The village has all the amenities you could wish for with a post office, shop, garage and local pub as well as an excellent fish restaurant. The cottage is just off the main street on the lane leading further into the National Park and towards Hackness. This property is an ideal place for the walkers or cyclists amongst you, with great trails right on your doorstep. From the large riverside orchard garden there are open views across the valley to the castle that dates back to 1390. Cycling is also very popular in the area as this forms part of the Tour de Yorkshire route. The Dalby Forest is close by with cycle trails for all abilities and home to the World Cup Trail, a challenging 4 mile route, or for beginners, there are plenty more leisurely routes. The cottage is an ideal base to visit all that Yorkshire has to offer from the North Yorkshire Moors to the Wolds and the beautiful east coast, and coarse fishing is available direct onto the River Derwent at the bottom of the garden with brown trout and grayling. What a great little find, perfect for that family holiday and just a short stroll from the North Bay in Scarborough. Apple Tree House is ideally suited to those with children as it has an enclosed rear garden with a good sized lawn for them to play. The bedrooms are decorated to a good standard with a children’s theme in the bunk bedroom. The master bedroom has a built-in wardrobe and the children’s rooms have TV’s with built in DVD players. The kitchen/dining room has all the modern conveniences required for that family holiday with a spacious area that leads out through the extension room to the lawned garden.
This delightful, semi-detached house is situated on a tree lined avenue close to the shops, bars and restaurants. Just around the corner is Peasholm Park, a wonderful ornamental park with stunning gardens and a large lake where you can hire pedalos and rowing boats. In the summer months they also re-enact a wartime battle with model naval ships which many children have enjoyed over the years whilst sat eating their picnics on the grass. Next to the park is the largest open air theatre in Europe with entertainment throughout the summer months. The Alpamare waterpark is about 10 minutes’ walk away with water slides, a wave machine, large swimming pools, and a sauna for the adults.
Scarborough has two bays, North and South Bay with long, flat Marine Drive to stroll along. The two bays are separated by the castle which sits high on the hillside. At the far end of the bay is the Sea Life Sanctuary, a great place to visit with the children. The long, sandy beaches have won many awards over the years. Both bays have traditional seaside donkeys and North Bay is the quieter of the two.

On the ground floor at the front you have the living room, and a hallway leads you through into the dining room, with a well-equipped adjoining kitchen. At the back of the property, there is an enclosed patio area with a seating area as well as a lockable shed which can be used for cycle storage, or for other outdoor equipment such as paddle boards. Plenty of take-away outlets, restaurants, bars, pubs and shops are within a short stroll of the house, offering a fantastic range of eating options. You can walk to the town centre, the beach, Scarborough Castle or Peasholm Park within ten minutes. A 5-minute walk across North Marine Road provides breath-taking views of the North Bay and Scarborough Castle, with benches where you can rest for a while. You may catch a glimpse of the pods of dolphins that are regular visitors to the coastline.
A meandering path takes you down to the beach in less than 10 minutes. Once on the seafront over three miles of flat promenade provide the perfect opportunity to walk and explore all areas of the Victorian resort. Either head south below the hilltop castle towards the South Bay, Scarborough Spa and the Italian Gardens, or go north past rows of colourful beach huts towards the Sealife Centre and Scalby Mills. Buses operate continually along this route. Peasholm Park offers wooded walks, refreshments and a lake where boats and pedalos can be hired. The gently shelving, wide sandy beaches at Scarborough have won several awards for cleanliness and there are ample opportunities for surfing and paddle-boarding as well as boat trips for all the family.
The resorts of Filey, Flamborough Head and Bridlington are further south, whilst to the north, Robin Hood’s Bay, Whitby, Sandsend, Runswick Bay and Staithes are all very popular for day trips. The RSPB bird sanctuary is just along the coast at Bempton Cliffs where thousands of puffins, guillemots, and gannets perch along the rocks. There are viewing points from which to spot all the different breeds of seabirds that arrive every year, as well as the seals that sunbathe on the rocks below. Within an hour you can be in the medieval, walled city of York with its majestic minster standing proudly in the centre of the city. The narrow-cobbled streets, city walls, individual shops and fantastic museums make it an enjoyable day for all age groups. Take a trip on an open top tourist bus or river boat and learn about the history of the famous city. York can also be reached by train direct from Scarborough, so why not leave the car at home? All in all, this town house is a great base to visit the east coast of Yorkshire, and a great size for the whole family.
