Heron House, a great three bedroom family house is located here in Berwick upon Tweed, just yards from the River Tweed. The local beaches in both Berwick and nearby Spittal are some of the best in the area, and the property enjoys a convenient location for accessing the facilities within Berwick town centre, in addition to the attractions up and down the Northumberland and Berwickshire coast.
The property provides accommodation over two floors. On the ground level there is a comfortable living room with wood burner and a generous dining room and kitchen. Refitted in 2020 to high modern standards the kitchen provides everything needed to base yourself as a family or group in Heron House. The dining area is spacious and comfortable, ideal for a family. On the upper floor you will find all three bedrooms. Sleeping six comfortably, the bedrooms vary in size slightly although all are well proportioned and the master bedroom enjoys a stunning sea view. The bathroom completes the accommodation with a four piece suite including an elevated double shower.

A short drive South and you will discover the many castles that flourish in this part of the country. The magnificent Bamburgh Castle, dominates its attractive small village, set high up above the beautiful, golden Bamburgh beach and equally magnificent Alnwick Castle (fans of Harry Potter will recognise Hogwarts scenes from here) to name but a couple. These two are lived in today, but you can also visit the beautiful ruins of Lindisfarne on Holy Island, Dunstanburgh and Warkworth.
Inland a trip to the Borders will be equally rewarding for its scenery and history. LNER runs a mainline route through Berwick train station, a 15 minute easy walk, you are an hour from Edinburgh or Newcastle and a comfortable four and a half from London. Nearby you can discover the Vindolanda Roman Fort, The Sill Landscape Discovery Centre and the world famous Sycamore Gap on Hadrian’s Wall. Also within easy reach is Haltwhistle, which is the ‘Geographic Centre of Britain’, with sports centre and outdoor heated swimming pools, and Burn Gorge. A must visit is the historic market town of Hexham, which boasts a stunning abbey, the oldest gaol in the country, and an abundance of eclectic shops, restaurants and pubs. The beautiful Heritage Coast can be reached in just 18 miles, where miles of golden beaches and castles await. Hadrian’s Wall is around 40 miles, while the border towns in Scotland are a mere 32 miles and are steeped in history. Visit Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland and featured in some Harry Potter scenes, only 18 miles away. Northumberland is a diverse county with miles of beautiful beaches, inland moors, a Gold Tier International Dark Sky National Park, Hadrian’s Wall stretching from east to west steeped in history and a trip to Newcastle to see the wonderful architecture.

The tidal island of Lindisfarne, locally known as Holy Island, can be seen from the beach and is accessible via a causeway twice daily. A further 2 miles up the coastline brings you to Waren Mill, which is steeped in history. Once an important port, its harbour has long since disappeared, silted up beneath the sands of the estuary. Budle Bay is a bird sanctuary and at low tide a vast expanse of mud flats is home to thousands of sea and land birds, making this location a haven for bird watchers.
Harry Potter fans can head to the historic market town of Alnwick to the incredible Alnwick Castle, one of the largest inhabited castles in the UK and used as Hogwarts when filming scenes for the Harry Potter films so it’s a must-visit for any fans, with Harry Potter related events organised here throughout the year as well as guided tours. The Alnwick Garden is also an exciting visit with its spectacular interpretation of a formal garden, including the Grand Cascade waterfall, poison garden and largest tree house in Europe where guests can dine in the restaurant. Light and spacious, the lounge with relaxing corner sofa and Smart TV, leads into the stylish kitchen/dining area where the design is contemporary, with spacious grey Shaker-style kitchen with granite worktops, large central island with bar stools and all the necessary appliances for modern day living. The space is light and airy and inviting, with large bi-fold doors bringing the outside in. A large table accommodates the group comfortably, and a wall mounted TV provides your entertainment.

Upstairs, guests are well accommodated with good quality beds, mattresses and crisp bed linen. The kingsize master bedroom has an en-suite shower room with super double power shower; the double bedroom and family room share the family bathroom with high quality fixtures and fittings.

The village of Quebec has a welcoming community, with a lovely tearoom opposite serving everything from a hearty breakfast to afternoon tea, and an assortment of pubs within a mile all serving good hearty meals. Nearby, the village of Lanchester has a good selection of restaurants, pubs and shops, whilst the villages of Langley Park and Esh Winning have well stocked stores, butcher and bakery.

This is a great spot for walkers and cyclists with many established public footpaths from the village leading into the scenic countryside of County Durham. Close by, is the historic City of Durham, awarded UNESCO World Heritage Site status, where you can visit the cathedral and castle or enjoy beautiful riverside walks, take a boat out on the river or a leisurely riverboat cruise. The Lumiere Festival takes place every couple of years in November and brings the city to life with live art, music and light shows in the open air theatre that the city becomes.

Visit the fabulous Kynren outdoor spectacle in nearby Bishop Auckland (but do book in advance). A little further afield but still within an easy 30-minute drive, guests will be able to take a day trip out to the popular Beamish Living Museum, see the famous Angel of the North statue in Gateshead, enjoy a day’s shopping at the Metro Centre and explore the vibrant city of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. The heritage coast is within an hour’s drive, making Quebec a perfect location.
