Situated in a quiet residential area, in the village of Hunmanby, near Filey, the property is less than 3 miles from the beach at Primrose Valley. The property boasts a lovely conservatory overlooking the rear, enclosed garden, perfect for those travelling with children and/or pets. There are shops and pubs within walking distance, so no need to take the car. Hunmanby is located on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds, where the rolling hills were the inspiration for David Hockney’s paintings. The Wolds Way walk runs nearby, a 79-mile walk through the tumbling Yorkshire hills and countryside. The Centenary Way also runs past the village, a walk that starts in York and finishes in Filey, so for those who enjoy the great outdoors, The Retreat is a great base for a walking holiday.
The seaside resort of Filey is just a few minutes drive away, and is an old fashioned, quieter resort than it’s neighbours, Scarborough and Bridlington. Filey is renowned for its large beautiful sweeping beach which has won many awards over the years. Further north there is Scarborough and Whitby as well as the North York Moors National Park. You can catch the steam trains from Pickering to Whitby, crossing over the beautiful moors and calling at Goathland, also known as the village of Aidensfield in the TV programme Heartbeat.
The property is ideally situated for visiting medieval York, a vibrant, lively city that has been voted in the top 10 cities to visit for several years. York appeals to all ages with it’s historical buildings, Jorvik Viking Centre and the Railway Museum, as well as the many leisure cruises available along the river. The RSPB bird sanctuary at Bempton is just a few minutes drive away, and offers the opportunity to see puffins, kittiwakes and gannets, all perched along the chalk cliffs. Beach 2½ miles. Dogs are welcome at Arthur’s Place and The Bay offers a meadow that is dog friendly, a short walk will also bring you to the beach. On site you can also find a coffee shop, pharmacy and the John Paul Jones family pub and restaurant. The Bay also boast a leisure complex which includes an indoor heated swimming pool, sauna, steam room and gym. During the summer months visitors can enjoy other activities including a putting green, archery, and tennis courts (additional charges may apply).
Take a walk along the beach and find yourselves in the pretty seaside town of Filey, where you can explore quaint streets lined with tea rooms, restaurants, and traditional amusements. Filey Bird Garden and Animal Park will also provide fun for the whole family. A little further afield is the delightful village of Flamborough with its working lighthouse. A visit here would not be complete without a walk along to cliffs of Flamborough Headland Heritage Coast. If golf is your thing, then book a round at the Bridlington Links Golf Course. Step inside and be greeted by a beautiful beach scene, behind which is the large living/dining room which offers stunning sea views. Take the glass panelled staircase to the first floor and here you will find the master double bedroom. The vaulted ceiling and low doorway leading through to an en-suite bathroom really add to its character. Fold open the Velux window and step outside onto a small hidden balcony; the sea view from up here is simply stunning. A perfect spot for an early morning coffee! To the front of the property is a pretty cottage garden with borders packed with summer flowers. To the rear is an enclosed, dog-friendly garden with neatly trimmed lawn and seating, perfect for an al fresco breakfast.

A short walk down the hill is where you will find a quaint dog-friendly café and the beach is just beyond. A short drive away is the pretty seaside town of Filey and the harbour port of Scarborough. Both towns offer lovely walks along promenades and a plethora of seaside attractions, tea rooms, restaurants and shops. A visit to RSPB Bempton Cliffs is a must whilst staying at Tigh Na Mara, or why not travel a little further inland and enjoy the rolling countryside of the Yorkshire Wolds.
