Kingsbridge, EnglandThis pretty, detached cottage, stands on the route of the former Great Western Railway ’Primrose Line’, and is adjacent to the Loddiswell Railway Station, which is now the owners’ home. Bere Alston is a delightful village which has everything you would need during your stay including a village store, post office, bakery, chemist, butchers, and a pub. Situated in the beautiful Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and West Devon mining UNESCO world heritage site, there are plenty of countryside walks, along quiet lanes and numerous footpaths. Just upstream from Bere Alston on the river Tamar is Morwellham Quay, a tiny harbour where half the world’s copper travelled through in the 1860s, and which is now a popular visitor attraction telling the story of copper mining through history.
For a delightful day of walking head up to the wilds of Dartmoor National Park, or discover Drakes Trail, where you can walk or cycle to your hearts content. The famed Upper and Lower Tamar Lakes are just a 15 minute drive away great for a 3mile walk and lunch in the cafe. There is also Roadford Lake which is also good for dog walks and lunch. The popular Tarka Trail is one of the country’s longest continuous traffic-free walking and cycling paths and provides the unique opportunity to follow disused railway lines allowing you to enjoy some of Devon’s finest countryside and river scenery.
