The Lakehouse is a two-bedroom holiday home located within the 100-acre Devon Sculpture Park Estate, surrounded by wild spaces in the centre of Mamhead Woods and stunning views across the Devon coast and countryside. This offers the ideal spot to take time out, enjoy the magnificent sculptures and to relax. It is tucked away in a private woodland glade, with nothing but the sounds of nature for company. Floating above the lake, the decked veranda is the perfect spot for your morning yoga session or to enjoy a cocktail after a long day at the beach. It sits right against the lake with the wooded Haldon Hills behind it and the sculpture filled park and pastures below.
Take the time to walk around the park and check out the synergy of environment and art. Guests will most likely spot the nearby wildlife which regularly includes deer, hares, buzzards, foxes, badgers and rabbits and the area is an ideal retreat for stargazing.
The lake itself was designed by Britain’s greatest gardener, Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown, and creates an incredible ambience, particularly at sunrise and sunset when light and colour are reflected across the clearing.

Inside, the open-plan kitchen, living and dining space has a minimalist bohemian style, while the panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows give spellbinding views across the lake and the glass doors open out onto the veranda. The double bedroom feels stylish and cosy and the second bedroom is perfect for children with two sets of bunk beds. A maximum of six guests can be accommodated in total. Both of the bedrooms share use of the family shower room which is fitted with a walk-in shower, heated towel rail, toilet and sink.
The whole house comes complete with Wi-Fi throughout, Amazon Prime and Netflix. In fact, the only thing you won’t find is an alarm clock –it’s much more agreeable to be woken by the birds’ dawn chorus coming through the window.
The property enjoys an ideal position for touring South Devon. There is a lovely beach at Dawlish Warren less than 5 miles away, as well as the nearby beaches of Teignmouth, Exmouth, and Torbay. The wild bird sanctuary and reserve at Dawlish Warren is nearby, as is rugged Dartmoor, a haven for wildlife, wild ponies, and more strenuous walks. The cathedral city of Exeter is a short easy drive and offers a range of popular shops and boutiques, restaurants, theatre, cinemas, and other leisure facilities. The 3,500-acre Haldon Hills Forest Park is just 5 minutes’ drive away and is criss-crossed with walking and cycling trails for all abilities.
