Sneaton boasts a friendly pub, ice cream parlour, charming tea rooms and a warm welcome from the locals. Bridle paths, cycle tracks and walkways abound from the door, with the ancient Monks Pathway being a favourite with walkers visiting this area. Whitby is a fantastic destination for holidaymakers with the steam train departing throughout the summer on its way to Grosmont and Goathland – those famous villages used in the TV series ‘Heartbeat’. Also, Whitby boasts a colourful harbour, 3 miles of sandy beach, the 12th century Abbey ruins and St Marys Church. The town also hosts many festivals throughout the year with folk weekends, 60’s music festivals and Goth weekends, bringing guests from far and wide. Mortar Barn is the ideal place for exploring both the North Yorkshire Moors National Park and the Heritage Coast of Yorkshire. Scarborough has been welcoming guests for more than 300 years and has all the ingredients for a family packed day at the seaside, with Filey and Bridlington a little further along the coast line. Explore both the coast and the countryside from this property, as it is an excellent base for walking and touring. The Yorkshire Wolds, one of Britain’s best kept secrets, runs to the south of the village, and there is miles and miles of long countryside walks. The North Yorkshire Moors and the east coast are just a short drive away, and the seaside resorts of Filey and Scarborough have great beaches for the family for that traditional seaside holiday. Within the hour you can be in the city of York with its abundance of renowned attractions, including the iconic Minster, Castle Museum and the Jorvik Viking Centre. Carr House farmhouse is set on a working farm, but only minutes away from the attractions of Scarborough and only 1½ miles from the well known surfing beach at Cayton Bay, which also welcomes dog walkers throughout the year. Visitors of all ages will enjoy the large landscaped gardens with a summerhouse, apple trees and barbecue, with a perimeter fence making it ideal for both children and pets. This detached farmhouse is ideal for touring the North Yorkshire coast, from Whitby in the north to Bridlington in the south. A short journey inland takes you to the North York Moors, ’Heartbeat’ Country and Pickering for the steam railway, whilst York for its historic attractions is less than an hour away.

For activities nearby there is Dalby Forest for cycling and tree climbing, Wykeham Lakes for fishing, or the many beaches which offer the chance to just relax, sail, surf, sunbathe, paddle, and build sandcastles. Scarborough is a vibrant seaside resort with lots of family attractions, such as the waterpark, Sealife Centre and crazy golf, as well as a funfair, ice-cream parlours, amusements, and donkey rides. Rosary House is a spacious stone farmhouse which was built in 1750 and is located in the quaint village of Irton, 4 miles from the glorious golden Cayton Bay, with the larger coastal destinations of Scarborough and Filey also within a 15-minute drive. This period property offers a unique and cosy stay with an exceptionally large enclosed garden and ample parking. Ideal for large families and groups of friends, especially for special occasions such as birthdays and anniversaries.
The house sleeps up to eight people comfortably with a kingsize bed, double bed, small double and two single beds. There is a main upstairs bathroom with a bath and a newly fitted downstairs shower room. Each room is well presented with gorgeous original features, such as exposed stone walls and beamed ceilings adding to its charm. The kitchen is well equipped with an Aga, as well as an electric cooker. The owner’s aim is to make this a home from home, and you will find all the facilities and equipment you would expect to find at your own house here too. In summer the beautiful extensive gardens, equipped with a hot tub and gas BBQ can be enjoyed by all. In winter you can cosy up by the two wood burners in either of the sitting rooms, equipped with Smart TVs. There is also an electric double garage available but please request this at the time of booking the key fob can be left for you. There are mountain bikes for guests to enjoy in the end stable but please respect them as if they were your own.
There is something for everyone to enjoy during your stay at Rosary House, with Scarborough only a short 10-minute drive away where you can spend the day at the beach, or check out the impressive views of the coast from Scarborough Castle. You can dine out at one of the many local village pubs in Irton, and the award-winning fish and chip shop which are only a short walk away. If you would like to venture a little further, Whitby is only a 40-minute drive, or you can experience an old-fashioned steam train ride from Pickering to Whitby. Families can enjoy a day out at the Sea Life Centre in Scarborough or Flamingo Land, near Pickering, only 30 minutes away. You can hop on the train to the historical city of York for a day trip and The North York Moors are right on your doorstep for great walking routes. At the front of Highfields you have the driveway with parking for two, whilst at the rear of the property the lawned garden faces the coastline. Here you can enjoy the views over the sea and along the cliff tops, with a raised decking area, accessed by a ramp for accessibility, making the most of the breath-taking panoramic scenery. You can watch the tide ebb and flow revealing the most glorious golden stretch of beach. Glass double doors lead from the decking into the living room, where you can sit back and soak up the scenery, or if you can drag your eyes away you can watch some TV, in the warm glow from the wood burner. The kitchen is well equipped with everything needed to create all your favourite meals, which you can enjoy at the dining table, again with beautiful sea views. Or when the weather is glorious, soak up the sun’s rays out on the decking with a barbecue. On the ground floor you also have a double bedroom with an en-suite bathroom. There is the option of a lift to get up to the first floor to make this accessible for guests with reduced mobility. Upstairs are a further three bedrooms, all complete with en-suites.
From your doorstep you join the Cleveland Way which runs along the cliff edge linking scenic coastal villages and bays from Filey in the south and up to Saltburn in the north, then continuing into the North York National Park. Just steps away you have a popular pub and hotel which serves hearty food, there is also a second pub and café all within a three-minute walk away. From the top of the village you can follow the footpath down a steep slope towards the bay where you have a cluster of historic houses teetering above the sea. There’s a small café as well as a quaint pub, exploring the winding footpaths between the cottages is like stepping back in time. The beach is beautiful, as well as being both dog and child friendly all year round. For days out you will be spoilt for choice.
Further north along the coast is Staithes and Saltburn, the latter a surfers’ paradise with a Victorian pier and tram, and beyond the enormous beach going to Marske and Redcar. To the south at Sandsend the waves dramatically crash over the sea wall at high tide, Whitby, bursting with history and drawing guests from around the world; the tangle of cobbled streets in the village of Robin Hood’s Bay cling to the cliff edge, with houses spilling right down to the water’s edge. Perhaps take the heritage steam train from Whitby on an adventure across the Esk valley, there are some quaint villages to visit along the way. For those who love the water you can join a local surf school, or row along the river Esk in the village of Ruswarp. For history lovers there are a selection of museums in Whitby as well as the nautical museum in Staithes and the mining museum in Skinningrove. Whitby Abbey and Guisborough Priory are both beautiful ruins, which are picture perfect.

Mill House is a listed property perfectly set within the picturesque village of Hawnby, built in 1781 by I and L Dawson. Surrounded by the North York Moors National Park, this detached property is simply stunning and is everything you would want from a luxury holiday retreat, complete with Hikki Bohemen wood-fired hot tub.
Mill House has been renovated throughout but still retains its sense of history. No expense has been spared and visitors are ensured of perfection throughout. On arrival, visitors are welcomed by a beautiful, lawned garden and patio with river frontage to the River Rye giving you a great place to relax in the sunshine after a day exploring everything this beautiful area has to offer. Please note that the garden is enclosed, but not fenced for dogs.
On the ground floor you have a gorgeous kitchen which is well presented, well equipped and has plenty of room for food preparation. On the same floor you have a charming, very comfortable living area with an open fire and a Smart TV; this room oozes character. There are two bedrooms on the first floor, one with a double bed and the other with twin beds. Both rooms have en-suite bathrooms and lovely garden views. Up a further set of stairs, you again have a double bed and twin beds both with en-suite bathrooms. All four bedrooms have kept all their charm and are beautifully decorated and furnished to an exceptionally high standard. With deep mattresses and luxurious bed linen, you are assured a great night’s sleep, guaranteeing you will wake refreshed and ready for another day exploring the North York Moors.
Hawnby is only 8 miles from Helmsley which is arguably one of Yorkshire’s finest market towns. This wonderful village is where the North York Moors and the Howardian Hills meet, offering some of the finest views and countryside. Helmsley is also a walker’s paradise where the Ebor Way meets the Cleveland Way, along with the Inn Way. With a reputation for great Yorkshire hospitality, the market square is a meeting point for walkers, cyclists and locals alike. Helmsley knows how to keep its visitors happy, with many shops, cafés, eateries including Michelin starred restaurants, an open-air swimming pool, walled garden, castle, bird of prey centre, microbrewery, two abbey ruins and the stately home of Duncombe Park. You will need more than a few nights at Mill House to experience all that this little town has to offer. The scenic east coast is easily accessible, as is the historic city of York which is only 24 miles to the south. Shop and pub 1 mile, other pubs and restaurant 5 miles.

Denton House, in the hamlet of Ravenscar, stands in an elevated position 600 feet above sea level overlooking Robin Hood’s Bay and the North York Moors. The horizon is 33 miles distant on a clear day. This detached home was built in 1993 from locally quarried stone blocks and has oil central heating and two log burning stoves. A garden room, also constructed from stone blocks is heated by electric oil radiator, and contains a sink unit, garden chairs, television with built in DVD player. The main feature of the room is a games table which can be used for either American pool, air hockey and table tennis. A lockable garage may be used for the storage of bikes. The garden, which overlooks a field immediately behind the house and towards the valley and bay, has two patio areas, one behind the house and the other next to the garden room. Both enjoy a sunny aspect for the majority of sunny days. Sheep graze in the field at certain times of the year and dog owners need to be aware that this is sheep country. There is a modern kitchen and a handy downstairs shower room. The second floor has an open plan landing with sofa looking out towards the moors.
Denton House is situated within a few hundred yards of the Cleveland Way route, which is perfect for guests who enjoy walking. There is a path leading down to a beach from the clifftop, or alternative road access to the beach via a track 1.5 miles away. There is also the old railway line which ran through Ravenscar between Scarborough and Whitby until the 1960’s which serves as a mainly gentle cycle track for the family. The station platform, tunnel and bridges are still in place along the 21 mile line. The beach below the cliffs at Ravenscar can be accessed by footpath across the golf course or by the disused railway line. Vehicle access is by a scenic single track road leading down the valley to a sandy beach. The foreshore of Robin Hood’s Bay is very well known for ammonite fossils and searching for them can be good fun for children of all ages.
The larger resorts of Whitby and Scarborough are just a short drive away. Whitby is a very busy working harbour and town, and is famous for the Dracula and Heartbeat locations and the exploits of Captainn Cook. Not forgetting award winning fish restaurants. Alternatively, Scarborough is a large Victorian seaside resort famous for its two bays, the North Bay being the quieter of the two. The long marine drive is over three miles of flat walking and is ideal for a pleasant evening stroll. Shop 8 miles, pub 2 miles and restaurant 500 yards.
