Aberdaron has two pubs serving great meals, one with a terrace directly overlooking the beach, two tea rooms, a fish bar, an ice cream parlour selling award-winning ice cream and an excellent bakery with a tea room upstairs. The Spar has a post office counter and the Eleri Stores sells fishing tackle, frozen bait, newspapers, lottery tickets and freshly cooked takeaway pizza. The National Trust interactive visitor centre in Aberdaron promotes the many attractions of the Llyn Peninsula. The ancient church of St Hywyn’s in Aberdaron was the last stopping off point for pilgrims to Bardsey Island. There is so much to see and do within 200 yards of Bodarfor! Glynarthen, WalesBeautifully located amidst unspoilt countryside with lovely valley views, and just a couple of miles inland from Cardigan Bay, the three cottages at Penrallt Y Cordde offer the perfect location to enjoy the Marine Heritage coastline. There are several award-winning beaches nearby, remote sandy coves and small fishing villages nestling amidst the stunning scenery. Tresaith, Penbryn, Cei Bach, Llangrannog and Mwnt are just a few worthy of a visit and several beaches are dog friendly all year round.
The three cottages sit within the resident owners’ 15 acres of land, where they have their own farmhouse and pastures, meadows, woodlands, ponds and stream. Each holiday cottage is different but all are equally comfortable and with unique features. The Grade II listed detached cottage, Bwthyn Barri (ref OW9) is believed to have been built in 1711 and is full of character with beams and exposed stonework, and has an inglenook fireplace with wood-burning stove.
Y Cartws (ref OW8 and meaning ‘cart’), and Yr Ysgubor (ref OX1 and meaning ‘barn’), have been created from an old stone barn and now offer contemporary accommodation in a sympathetic conversion, also with beams, vaulted ceilings and exposed stonework.
The Ceredigion Coastal Path takes in spectacular cliff top views and ‘Cardi Bach’ buses connect with various points along the route. Designated a Special Area of Conservation, Cardigan Bay is home to bottlenose dolphins, harbour porpoises, grey seals and a variety of sea birds. You can take a dolphin spotting boat trip from New Quay harbour, or just enjoy fish and chips and watch them from the harbour wall. It’s no wonder that writer Dylan Thomas was inspired to settle here for some of his life.
There are plenty of attractive towns and villages to discover nearby, including Cardigan and its castle, the colourful harbour town of Aberaeron with elegant painted Georgian buildings, impressive Cilgerran, and bustling Newcastle Emlyn. Cosy pubs, chic shops, antique centres and good restaurants in the area, and for the more sporty, there are plenty of outdoor activities available including cycle routes, windsurfing, sailing, kayaking and a canoe centre at Llandysul.
Just a few miles further inland the scenic Teifi Valley offers excellent opportunities for fishing as well as attractions such as the Teifi Valley Railway, the National Wool Museum, the National Coracle Centre and falls at Cenarth.

New Quay, WalesDelfryn is a delightful 19th century, link-detached cottage situated in the small ancient village of Llanarth. The cottage is located just off the A487 coastal road which runs between Aberystwyth and Cardigan, within 3 miles of the pretty seaside resort of New Quay and 3 miles from the colourful Georgian harbour town of Aberaeron; both of which have a good selection of shops, cafés and restaurants.
The owners of Delfryn have painstakingly restored the cottage to offer contemporary and comfortable holiday accommodation whilst retaining original features. The property layout is ideally suited to a family or friends holidaying together. The lovely living room has a feature stone wall and fireplace with a gas wood-burning stove for cosy nights in. The living room leads directly to the contemporary and spacious kitchen and dining area which in turn has French doors bringing you out into the terrace and garden. Also leading off the living room is a separate snug with a further TV and a sofa bed for two people, if required. A shower room and toilet completes the ground floor accommodation and upstairs there are three bedrooms and a family bathroom.
The seaside resort of New Quay clings to the rocks above Cardigan Bay and has three great sandy beaches (two are dog friendly all year round) and two harbours from where you can spot an array of wildlife, most famously the dolphins that visit the harbour almost daily. Why not take a boat trip to get up close and personal or buy an ice cream or fish and chips and sit on the harbour wall and wait for them to appear! Lovers of the outdoors may also like to try sailing, surfing, windsurfing, sea kayaking or canoeing from the harbour beach. The resorts of Llangrannog, Aberaeron and Aberporth are also within easy reach of Llanarth and each are great starting points for walking the Cardigan Bay Coastal Path – there’s 60 miles of it to enjoy and the beaches and coastline are some of the best in Wales. A 35-minute drive will bring you to the resort of Aberystwyth, where you will find the pier and promenade as well as the electric cliff railway to the summit of Constitution Hill. Have a coffee up there and enjoy the spectacular views across the bay. You can also take the steam train from Aberyswtyth to Devil’s Bridge and waterfalls, or why not drive a bit further on to the Silver Mountain Experience at Llywernog, a fantastic day out to explore the history of the 18th century silver mine.
