About this property

Kilkhampton 5.4 miles. This single-storey property lies in the sleepy hamlet of Gooseham, amidst the beauty of northeast Cornwall. Set next to the owner’s 1700 century thatched home, The Shippen invites up to four guests and their canine companion seeking a heart-warming retreat to a quiet region of Cornwall. After a day of walking, make yourself at home in the lounge, choosing a DVD from the provided selection before curling up beside the wood burning stove. Allow the designated chef some space in the kitchen, appointed with an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher and even a washing machine, so you won’t have to pack your whole wardrobe! Serve up a tasty supper on the dining table or why not dine alfresco style upon the patio furniture, appreciating the tranquil surroundings? When the night grows dark, retreat to either of the bedrooms to catch your rest, including the master with a tasteful, four-poster king-size bed or the twin, ideal for the younger guests. Adjoining the bedrooms via a Jack-and-Jill access is the family bathroom, complete with roll top bath, hand-held shower and a walk-in shower, 2 heated towel rails, so you can best decide how to prepare for the day. When you’re ready to explore, pop on your walking boots and wander the local country lanes or the SW coastal paths; just over two miles away lies the historic Bush Inn, a 13th century pub full of history and intrigue. Open all day every day noon until 10, serving good food from 12-2.30 and 5.30-8 - this is the ideal pub, boasting a garden with sea views on warm sunny days and a roaring fire for the cooler winter months. Take off further afield to Kilkhampton, an old village home to a choice of independent shops, a convenience stores and 2 pubs to unwind in with a drink or meal. Be sure to visit the seaside town of Bude and make the most of its sweeping sandy beach, coastal walks, famous open air Bude swimming pool, a golf course and an ancient castle to unveil the past. Heading towards Cranford and Bideford, you can find family-friendly attractions including The Gnome Reserve and Wildflower Garden and The Milky Way Adventure Park to keep the little ones entertained. For a Cornish retreat that is close to coast and country, look no further than The Shippen.

Four miles from the well-known Victorian beach resort of Bude, one of Cornwall's top vacation spots, is the historic Cornish village of Kilkhampton. Kilkhampton, with its historic church, charming shops, and quaint pubs, is a great location to unwind after a long day of seeing the area's world-famous beaches and breathtaking coastal landscape. Surfers from all over the nation visit Bude's beaches because, when the circumstances are ideal, it's difficult to find better surf. Miles of golden beach and several rock pools keep visitors busy for hours when the tide is out. This region is a refuge for hikers and lovers of the open countryside thanks to the South West Coast Path and numerous additional rights-of-way that wind over the clifftops and through lush green fields with views of the sea. A good retail centre, many bars, two clubs, and restaurants are available for individuals who would rather stay closer to home. Bude Canal, a designated natural reserve, runs through the town. A relaxing way to spend an hour or two is to paddle a boat along its tranquil waters or stroll down the towpath among the lovely (and amiable) waterfowl that reside among the reeds. Additionally, there are two golf courses, an indoor pool, and a bowling alley in the vicinity. Ideally situated for everything North Cornwall has to offer.
