Overview

This charming semi-detached barn conversion offers a beautiful holiday base in Brandlingill, a few miles from Cockermouth. The Byre offers country living down a quiet lane, providing peaceful accommodation for a family holiday to the western side of the Lake District. The cottage has been refurbished in a style in keeping with a country life. The property welcomes you in the large hallway that boasts a quarry tile floor. After an exciting day exploring the region, the kitchen is amply equipped for you to cook up a feast for your group, with a farmhouse dining set contained within the open plan area. If you'd rather go less formal, take your supper into the spacious sitting room with its beamed ceiling and comfortable sofas. Up the oak staircase to the bedroom accommodation, which consists of a double and two twins. The cottage is one of two within the same building, so outside space is shared, but offers large green spaces with picnic furniture and storage for your bike if you've taken to two wheels for your break. Brandlingill is a small hamlet in the Lorton Vale, but a car journey will take you to all the amenities you will need in the market town of Cockermouth. Cockermouth itself is steeped in history, having been the birthplace of William Wordsworth. From here you can sample a tipple at the Jennings Brewery or venture further afield through the western reaches of the Lake District, or perhaps a drive through the mountainous Whinlatter Pass. The Byre is one of two cottages in a tranquil country lane location, making it a peaceful base for a family looking to enjoy all that the western Lake District has to offer. This property can be booked alongside Tithe Cottage (property reference 972481) to sleep 12 people

    Location

    Directions
The small country market town of Cockermouth is situated in the quiet north-western part of the Lake District, a largely undiscovered and unspoilt area, yet only 13 miles from Keswick. The town is famous as the birthplace of both William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian (of Mutiny on the Bounty fame) and Wordsworth’s Georgian family home, on the main street, is now a popular visitor attraction, owned by the National Trust. Cockermouth offers a good variety of shops, pubs and places to eat, but the main attraction of the area is the scenery and walking in the northern lakes – Bassenthwaite Lake, Ennerdale Water and Derwent Water.
