Overview

Yarpole 3.9 miles. Tucked away amongst the beautiful Herefordshire countryside is this delightful character-laden, Redstart Cottage. Perfectly positioned for exploring the surrounding areas and the popular historic towns of Leominster and Ludlow, Redstart Cottage is a fantastic pet-friendly option for a couple or a family of up to four. Upon arrival, you will find off-road parking and a gravel-patio to the front, with bistro table and seating, perfect for enjoying your morning cup of tea or coffee or evening glass of wine as the sun goes down; for walkers, a public footpath also starts just a stone’s throw from your doorstep. Step inside to discover a fully-equipped kitchen-diner where you can whip up an assortment of delicious dishes, or continue through to find a spacious sitting room, with plenty of plush seating and a Smart 4K TV, ideal for relaxing evenings with your loved ones. Make your way up to the first floor, where you can indulge in a soothing soak in the bath with your favourite book, before catching some well-deserved rest in the family room which features a double bed and sofa bed. Just a short drive from the cottage is the ancient village of Kingsland which boasts two good pubs and nearby is another great dining spot, The Riverside at Aymestrey. Many fun group and family friendly activities can be enjoyed in the area including a high wire rope course, paintball, quad trekking and raft building, all of which are available at the local Oaker Wood activity centre. Within a short but scenic drive you will find the esteemed National Trust sites of Croft Castle, a castellated 17th-century manor house and Berrington Hall, a stunning neo-classical 18th-century mansion designed by Henry Holland. Further afield the Judge's Lodgings in Presteigne, Stokesay Castle, the renowned Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre and the Acton Scott Historic Working Farm, are also all well worth a visit. The thriving village of Yarpole, equidistant between the pretty market towns of Ludlow and Leominster, and mentioned in the 'Domesday Book', boasts an award-winning community shop and offers some great walks which are rewarded with breath-taking views. Next stop is Leominster, where you can delve into the area's history at Leominster Museum, or for a fantastic day out, why not visit historic Ludlow, home to one of the finest medieval castle ruins in England and more than 500 listed buildings? For even more things to do and see venture onto Hereford, where you’ll find the Black and White Museum (built in 1621) and the golden-stone Hereford Cathedral - home to the Mappa Mundi (Hereford's famous medieval map used by scholars to interpret the world over 700 years ago) and the captivating, chained library (a collection of rare and ancient books). Set in the former Bulmer's Cider Factory the Museum of Cider is also worth a visit. Experience Herefordshire like never before with a stay at Redstart Cottage.

The charming Angel pub and The Corners Inn, both providing hearty pub meals and local ales, are two excellent pubs in the historic village of Kingsland. They're great for nights when you don't feel like cooking! – As well as a local store, Kingsland has a post office. The Riverside at Aymestrey, which was named "Herefordshire's Best Restaurant" in 2021 and "Best Sustainable Pub" in 2022 by the Great British Pub Awards, is yet another fantastic eating establishment. There are lots of enjoyable, group- and family-friendly activities nearby, including a high wire course, paintball, quad biking, and raft building, all of which are offered at the neighbourhood Oaker Wood activity centre. The prestigious National Trust sites of Croft Castle, a castellated 17th-century manor house where you can tour both the interior and grounds, and Berrington Hall, a stunning neoclassical 18th-century mansion designed by Henry Holland, are both within a short drive. Both of these sites feature serpentine pools and serve as Capability Brown's final complete estate. The Judge's Lodgings at Presteigne, Stokesay Castle, the prestigious Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre, and the Acton Scott Historic Working Farm are also worthwhile side trips.
