Aldeburgh is the home of British composer Benjamin Britten and remains a centre for the arts and literature with the Aldeburgh Music Festival, the Proms, an annual poetry festival, documentary film festival, exhibitions and galleries, food festivals and many other cultural events. Fresh locally caught fish can be bought daily (weather permitting) from the fishermen’s huts along the beach. It is a quintessential coastal town.
Designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this gentle and understated landscape, with its pubs aplenty, offers a day’s walking that can be rewarding and enjoyable. As well as coastal walks, the River Alde and surrounding areas can be explored by foot. Minsmere Bird Sanctuary lies just up the coast towards Southwold.
