Overview

York is one of PetsPyjamas’ favourite northern getaways. Dog-friendly No1 York Guesthouse is a wonderful home from home in this noble city, just a 10-minute walk from York Minster with fantastic country walks in the Howardian Hills on the doorstep. The building is a historic Grade II Listed Regency townhouse of stately proportions with huge, dreamy sash windows, higher-than-high ceilings, a sweeping central staircase, and ivy around the door. Grand but very dog-friendly, the house is full of charm, with pantries full of treats for humans and their furry friends, great restaurant food throughout the day, delicious drinks from the bar, and a fabulous spa.

Must be the truly dog-welcoming atmosphere with doggie treats, beds, a list of doggie walks as well as dog walking service.

Bedrooms & Suites

From cosy to lofty, many of the dog-friendly bedrooms have fireplaces, lots have leafy views and the two Bootham Suites occupy what used to be a grand drawing room and a luxurious library. In all of them, you’ll find locally sourced antiques, art and curios that tell York’s stories in the most charming of ways. And just a little down the hall from all of them, you’ll find GuestHouse’s signature Pantry stocked full of complimentary treats for the taking. All rooms include Wildsmith toiletries, a Nespresso kit, kettle with tea & coffee and a record player where you can choose your music from the hotel’s record library.

The Bootham Suites

On the first floor, in what were once the library and the drawing room when these townhouse buildings were an aristocratic home, the hotel has created two incredibly grand, born-to-be-loved suites. They are beyond generous in their proportions with handsomely high ceilings, gorgeous balconies, and super-king-size beds. Eeach suite includes a magnificent in room bath with separate shower.

The Clifton Suite

Hats off to the view from this room sitting pretty at the front of the townhouses, looking out onto where Bootham street meets the lovely neighbourhood of Clifton. It’s not just the view that inspires adoration for this room. It is a luxurious beauty of a suite with a super-king-size bed and plenty of room for little ones or four-legged ones. The bathroom has a bath with large separate shower.

Dine with Your Dog

You can dine with your dog in the Marmalade lounge and Rhubarb bar, with all the same dishes available from the restaurant. Or if you would rather you can leave your four legged friend in the bedroom while you eat in the main restaurant. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are available and even elevenses using lots of delicious sustainable, local food.
