Locally, Grizedale Forest's wonderful wooded trails, Coniston Old Man, and Wetherlam offer excellent hiking, mountain biking, and climbing opportunities. For those who appreciate water activities, the calm lake is perfect for canoeing and dinghy sailing, while those who are less energetic can take a leisurely ride aboard the lovely steam boat "Gondola" or visit Brantwood, the old residence of John Ruskin.
