Just outside the town lies a country park with an animal sanctuary nearby, whilst for walkers, Filey marks the start of the Cleveland Way long distance trail. Nature lovers must visit the RSPB Reserve at Bempton, to see the puffins and kittiwakes nesting on the high chalk cliffs. For an action packed fun-filled day, take a trip to Flamingo Land near the market town of Pickering, or explore the stunning countryside of the surrounding moorland. A fishing town on the North East Coast, Filey has enjoyed a reputation of being a resort since Victorian times, set beside the magnificent Filey Bay, a long stretch of beautiful sand, with Filey Brigg and its shallow rockpools to the north. The town itself seems almost caught in a time warp, retaining much of its character with individual shops, narrow paths and ginnels.
