At Lady Edith’s Holiday Park, you have a welcoming family friendly bar next to a play area, making this fun for everyone. You can also purchase a fishing permit for the local mere, or explore the nearby woodland. In Scarborough there are two bays. North Bay Beach sweeps in a crescent lined with colourful beach huts with the Sea Life Centre at the far end. You can walk from the North Bay all the way along the promenade to the busier South Bay. At the south bay you have all the fun of a traditional seaside holiday with arcades as well as many cafés, restaurants, bars and shops to visit. Both bays have lovely, large sandy beaches. There is also Scarborough Castle which stands on the cliff top between the two bays, as well as the casino and the funfair on the seafront.
Peasholm Park is wonderful to discover, you can hire pedalos and rowing boats to go around the lake and see the stunning oriental gardens. Scarborough is famous for its theatres. There is an outdoor theatre which stages concerts by some of music’s big names, and then there is the Stephen Joseph Theatre which is famous for the premieres of Alan Ayckbourn’s plays. The Alpamare waterpark is great for all ages, with its fantastic wave pool and waterslides, as well as a large heated outdoor infinity pool. Keep younger children entertained with the ’splash and play’ area. For adults there is a spa where you can relax and be pampered. The heated outdoor pools are warm enough to enjoy through all of the seasons. Further along the coast you also have Ravenscar, Whitby, Robin Hood’s Bay and Bridlington to discover. Felicity House is in an enviable position overlooking the village of Staithes with the Cleveland Way trail running past the doorstep. The cottage has lots of original features and has been renovated by the present owners to a very good standard. Some of the rooms have lovely sea views and the living room has a cosy wood burner to curl up in front of after a long walk along the rugged coastline.

Staithes is within the North York Moors National Park so stunning scenery and traditional Yorkshire villages are in abundance. The village has a good local pub serving food, as well as a shop for essentials. Staithes is a great place for fossil hunting and in the summer you see many children enjoying searching the rock pools and crevices for these fossils. The village is like stepping back in time with its cobbled streets and quaint, quirky cottages that lead down to the harbour where you can sit and enjoy a drink with the locals at the pub. Staithes has now become a great artists retreat with an excellent art festival held every year.

The property is perfect for those walkers amongst you as you can walk along the clifftops following the trail to Whitby and further on the Robin Hood’s Bay and Ravenscar. The town of Whitby is just 8 miles away and is one of the most visited fishing towns on the coast, famous for the abbey being the inspiration to Bram Stoker’s book ’Dracula’. This lovely lower ground floor apartment is tastefully decorated and well-equipped, and situated close to all of Whitby’s amenities. There are six steps down into the welcoming hallway, a spacious kitchen/dining room with unique brick arch work makes a lovely social space to eat, chat and plan your holiday activities. The train and bus stations are also close by, making this a perfect base from which to explore Whitby and its surrounding areas. A short stroll takes you to the quaint cobbled streets of Whitby’s old town and atmospheric harbour. From here, if you’re feeling energetic you could climb the 199 steps which lead up to the ruins of Whitby Abbey, which stands dominantly on the clifftop and can be seen from Hilltop Hideaway’s kitchen window.
You can enjoy the magnificent coastline with an exhilarating cliff-top walk, a stroll along the beach to Sandsend or in the summer months pack a picnic and relax on the long sandy beach. Jump on the tour bus to make sure you don’t miss out on everything Whitby has to offer, or take a trip on one of the pleasure boats and enjoy a trip around the harbour and out to sea. Head inland to admire the natural beauty of the North York Moors National Park, with mile upon mile of nature trails and walks such as the Cinder Track and the Cleveland Way. Visit stunning waterfalls such as Falling Foss, or even take a ride on the steam train which ventures into ’Heartbeat’ country and the quaint village of Goathland. Explore local history and heritage by visiting the plethora of museums available such as: Whitby Museum, Captain Cook Museum or the RNLI museum or for those that like a challenge climb the famous 199 Steps leading up to the historic St Mary’s Church, here you will also be able to find and explore the ruins of Whitby Abbey all while admiring the phenomenal scenic views.
If you time your visit just right, you may also be able to experience the twice-yearly Whitby Goth festival. Those seeking excellent walking and cycling opportunities can venture into the North York Moors National Park, where you can tackle imposing peaks, hop aboard the North York Moors Railway for a scenic ride through the lush countryside or hike along the vast moors or the famous Cleveland Way trail. Nearby you have Scarborough where you will find the delights of Scarborough Castle, Alpamare water park and spa and the Scarborough Open Air Theatre. At the front of the cottage you have a seating area for two outside, in a peaceful yard away from the bustling crowds. Stepping inside you are welcomed into the open plan living area, with an electric fire as well as comfortable seating beneath the beamed ceiling. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking a holiday feast. Upstairs you have two beautifully presented bedrooms, on the first floor is a double bedroom with views over the pantiled rooftops to the whale-bone archway up on the cliff tops. There is also the family bathroom. On the second floor is the family bedroom under the beamed ceiling with a double as well as a single bed and elevated views across the rooftops and out to sea. Outside as an additional quirky feature you have the original outhouse with a toilet, as well as a separate utility room.
You are only a 5-eminute walk away from the nearest beach, with a wide assortment of quirky independent shops, as well as cafés, restaurants and pubs all within easy reach and many being dog friendly. In the harbour there is the HMS Endeavour, a replica of Captain Cook’s ship which was built and sailed from Whitby on his voyages of discovery. Join a ghost walk, visit the museums, you can even see a shipwreck at low tide at Saltwick Bay or look up into the cliffs to spot the smugglers tunnels, the clues to the towns colourful past are all around you.
