Enjoying a rural location in the lovely Sussex countryside, these two beautifully refurbished, detached single-storey barn conversions are located close to the South Downs and only 15 minutes’ drive to the beach. Within easy reach are beaches at Worthing and Brighton, historic Arundel with stunning castle and Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, Chichester with its cathedral and Goodwood/Fontwell races. Plenty of National Trust homes and gardens to visit. Shop 1 mile, pubs and restaurants 2 miles.

Converted from former farm buildings, these four holiday properties (two of which have been adapted for the disabled with shower chairs available), are in the Southdowns National Park. Properties 17320 and 17321 command fine views over the surrounding countryside. 17320 also has a worktop which has been lowered for wheelchair access to the sink in the kitchen. Situated in the grounds of the family farm (non-working), they are only 100 yards from the village of Compton with village shop and tea room with free wi-fi access. Enjoy peaceful walks along a bridle path leading to the South Downs Way, 2 miles designated as a National Park. The historic cathedral town of Chichester lies 10 miles away, with its cobbled streets adorned with tea rooms and restaurants, and the ornate cathedral. Scenic boat tours can be taken around the harbour. Goodwood and Fontwell races or polo at Cowdray are all within a short drive. Portsmouth, with shopping and leisure facilities, within easy reach. Tucked away at the end of a farm road surrounded by stunning Sussex countryside is the beautifully converted, detached, old dairy called Woodlands Dairy Cottage. Originally part of a working dairy farm within 86 acres, now with sheep and beef cattle. Lambing in springtime is not to be missed. Footpaths and great country walks emanate from the doorstep so pull on your wellies and start exploring! All the accommodation is on one floor and the cottage is wheelchair friendly. Storage is available for bicycles to explore the many bridleways which run through woodlands and open country.
The area is steeped in history as Stane Street, now known as the A29, was built by the Romans. Woodlands Dairy Cottage is ideally placed for great days out visiting the South Downs National Park, the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum, Fishers Farm Adventure Park, Arundel Castle and Gardens, Arundel Cathedral and the magnificent 900-year-old Chichester Cathedral. Brighton is 45 minutes’ drive with its vibrant marina, historic shopping Lanes and the Regency Royal Pavilion built by King George IV. You can take a boat trip along the restored section of the Wey and Arun Canal or along the River Arun from Arundel. West Sussex is famed for its many vineyards which can be visited.
Petworth House houses great collections and its deer park was designed by Grinling Gibbons. Cowdray is the home of British polo and the coveted Gold Cup which draws teams of the best players from all over the world. Goodwood, with its magnificent house, is also the home to the summer Glorious Goodwood horse race meeting as well as the hugely popular Festival of Speed and Revival for Motor Racing attracting motor enthusiasts from across the globe.
The RSPB’s Pulborough Wetlands are a must for bird fanciers. There are numerous beaches within 16 miles, good pubs and restaurants close by together with prime food shops selling local produce and two supermarkets within a 4-mile drive. There are plenty of golf courses, fishing is available locally, as well as many spectacular gardens to visit. Theatres at Chichester, Brighton and Guildford often have pre-West End shows. Downlands Farm is nestled in the heart of the beautiful Hampshire countryside with wonderful views across the peaceful valley. This rural haven is only 10 minutes from Petersfield, with fantastic road and rail connections for London and Portsmouth. These two holiday cottages Edward’s Cottage (ref UKC1818) and Louisa’s Cottage (ref UK11596) are set on a small working farm and just off a green-lane leading to miles of footpaths, bridleways and on and off-road cycling within the South Downs National Park. The cottages offer light and airy open plan living accommodation, and have ground floor bedrooms and a special ‘hideaway’ bedroom/playroom to accommodate children.
The barns have been converted from original agricultural buildings and have been sympathetically designed to blend with the surrounding countryside, while offering comfortable accommodation. For biking enthusiast there is a shared bike shed for bike storage and by arrangement, guests are welcome to bring their horses and make use of the Loddon stables. There are three local pubs within the vicinity, all within a half hour stroll or a 3-minute car journey away. The bustling market town of Petersfield is a 10-minute drive, and has a range of shops and restaurants, and along with the two local village shops; these provide all you need for stocking up on essential items. The cathedral cities of Chichester, Guildford, Portsmouth and Winchester are all 45 minutes away, and offer a range of shops and entertainment. The beautiful beach at West Wittering is an hour’s drive away, and this lovely location is ideal to visit, whatever the time of year, and is perfect for all ages. During low season (October to April), you can ride your horse at any time on the beach at West Wittering, and during the summer months you can ride before 9am and after 6pm.
Hayling Island has a children’s fun fair and a shingle beach, and is within half an hour from Downlands Farm. The cottages enjoy direct access to miles of scenic walking and cycling routes through the beautiful countryside and pretty villages such West Meon, where you can enjoy lunch at one of the pubs serving food, and where Thomas Lord rests, founder of Lords cricket. The market town of Petersfield has a range of restaurants and shops, and if you fancy a day trip to London, the local train service takes approximately one hour. There are several attractions in the area that are worth a visit, including Portsmouth with the Spinnaker Tower, HMS Warrior and Nelson’s HMS Victory, along with the historic Winchester Cathedral, King Arthurs Round Table, and Southampton with its extensive maritime history. For walking and riding the vast heathland of The New Forest National Park is ideal. For a cultural day out, try historic Chichester with its cathedral and festival theatre, and not forgetting the Watercress Steam Train, Jane Austen’s house, Gilbert White’s house, Marwell Zoo, Birdworld and the Queen Elizabeth Country Park which is the other side of the valley. Steyning Kilns is located on the site of five old lime kilns dating back to the early 1800s. It is a lovely detached property with the added benefit of air conditioning, located on the side of the South Downs, able to comfortably accommodate up to six guests. It provides a fantastic secluded location for couples, families, or small groups of cyclists or walkers to stay, when looking to explore the wider Sussex area. Outside there is a tap for bike and boot washing and an eating area with table and chairs for six, barbecue and fire pit (with free logs) for those cooler evenings. There is a large paddock area for recreation and some outdoor play equipment available for the children.

Steyning is a small, picturesque town, originally one of the most important places in the county during the middle ages, with its large and prosperous port. Now, it resides about 5 miles from the coast, up the River Adur from Shoreham-by-Sea. The centre of the village still has a large number of historic buildings, including many from the medieval and Tudor period.

Today you’ll find independent shops, an assortment of tea rooms and restaurants, pubs, a well-stocked supermarket and a local butcher all on the high street. The award winning Sussex Produce Company stocks high quality produce and some excellent ready meals, where you can shop for food seven days a week and until late in the evening. Also well worth a visit is the Steyning Bookshop and Cobblestone Walk - a unique shopping arcade, all based around a 16th-century tea house.

The property is ideally positioned on the side of the South Downs, bordering onto the National Park boundary, but only ½ a mile from the South Downs Way path, the Downslink Trail and Steyning High Street. It offers many miles of bridle and cycle paths, and footpaths to explore, with pretty rural villages and traditional country pubs to discover along its routes. You can visit the nearby Steyning Bowl, Chanctonbury Ring, with its stunning views, and the Iron Age hill fort at Cissbury Ring.

The cosmopolitan city of Brighton on the south coast lies roughly 12 miles south east, where you can take a tour around the Regency terraces, the Royal Pavilion, the trendy Lanes district and book your ticket for the British Airways i360 observation tower. The town of Worthing, with 2019’s ‘Pier of the Year’ is only 7 miles away.

Other must-see places within Sussex include Arundel with its famous castle, RSPB Pulborough, The Bluebell Steam Railway, Ashdown Forest or slightly further afield to the west, you’ll find the historic Chichester Cathedral and Goodwood and Fontwell races.

Outdoor pursuits are well catered for in the county, including horse riding on the Downs, and golf enthusiasts will find a variety of courses available locally, and hang gliding enthusiasts can visit The Flyers at nearby Devil`s Dyke on The Downs, 7 miles away.
