Less than 3 miles away from the historic town of Whitby as well as nearby glorious golden sandy beaches, coves and bays along the coastline to explore. This renovated cottage has been furnished and decorated to a high standard, with views across the lawned garden down to the enclosed private woodland, complete with a footpath through the trees. This is a haven for wildlife and you may see the resident deer at dawn and dusk.
The cottage is warm and welcoming with underfloor heating throughout. The open plan living room and kitchen looks out onto the decked area, breakfast outside is delightful on a sunny morning, al fresco dining while the birds are singing. This detached holiday home has a touch of luxury, the modern fitted kitchen is well equipped and perfect for cooking up delicious meals. The well-furnished living room invites you to sink into the sofa and wind down with a favourite film. Then tumble into the kingsize bed, ready to wake refreshed for the next day of exploring. This is a walker’s dream, embrace the great outdoors and follow one of the nearby trails, it is located next to the Cinder Track running from Whitby, through Stainsacre to Robin Hood’s Bay, Ravenscar and Scarborough. There is also the Cleveland Way along the coastline and the steam train which winds its way over the heather laced hills of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, a delight to explore. There are also ancient forests nearby such as Falling Foss with its waterfall and Dalby Forest, with footpaths, bike trails and zip-lining through the tree tops. For equestrians your horse is welcome to join you so that you can enjoy some of the beautiful trails together. The cottage has undergone a major renovation that has been completed to a very good standard, with tasteful décor and furnishings throughout. There is an enclosed private garden area outside that is perfect for your dog to run around in while you relax and enjoy a glass of wine. There’s also a barbecue area for making the most of the warm weather.
Secluded yet surprisingly close to town, the seaside resort of Whitby is just a few miles away, easily accessible by car or on foot. The town is home to a jam-packed calendar of events which take place all year round, and you can take a tour bus to see the fascinating sites, which include the stunning Abbey and St Mary’s Church high above the cliffs. There are also regular boat cruises that offer a different aspect of the beautiful town from the water. A day trip to Robin Hood’s Bay is a must during your stay at The Hideaway. Just 3 miles away, the bay is full of character and charm, thanks to its cobbled, narrow streets and alleyways lined with an eclectic mix of individually-run shops, pubs and tearooms.
A little closer to home, Hawsker has a warm and cosy local pub that serves local food, and for the outdoorsy types, there’s a disused railway line only a few hundred yards away that stretches some 21 miles from Whitby to Scarborough.
The North York Moors National Park lies just inland from the North Yorkshire coastal resorts of Whitby and Scarborough, with over 1,400 miles of trails, footpaths and bridleways that cobweb the rolling heather-clad moorland and meet in the pretty rural villages and historic country towns. Carving a pathway deep through the North York Moors is the famous North York Moors Steam Railway, which carries its passengers from Pickering in the south northward to Grosmont, and then along the lovely Esk Valley to Whitby on the coast. A little further afield are the rolling hills and picture-perfect river valleys of the Yorkshire Dales. Beach 2 miles. Shop 1 mile, pub and restaurant 500 yards.

Originally built in 1825 as a ruin, this unique Grade II listed building has been sympathetically transformed into two lovely, detached gatehouses yet retaining all the visual appearances of a ruin. Built in stone from Filey Brigg, The Follies are set in 3/4 acres of natural grounds and visitors are welcome to wander through them, where there is an abundance of wildlife including, rabbits, owls and squirrels.

Centrally located for exploring the North Yorkshire coast, moors and wolds, the historic town of Filey is only 3 miles distant, with its wide sandy beach and all the attractions of a popular seaside resort. Scarborough and Bridlington are both easily accessible, as is the beautiful city of York. There is a 9-hole golf course locally, fishing available nearby, and an RSPB reserve at Bempton Cliffs providing interest for bird-watchers. Head into the town centre where you will find plenty of quaint shops selling all sorts of curiosities from Whitby Jet jewellery to Gothic clothing. Whitby has a hugely popular food and drink scene with many bistros and café bars, as well as traditional fish and chip shops and tea rooms. There are many pubs and bars that offer a warm welcome to dogs and humans alike, as well as the many festivals and events that take place in the town such as the bi-annual Goth Weekender, Steam Punk weekends and the famous folk week.

Venture just a little further out of town for a game of golf or explore some of the hidden gems to be found all along the coast. Take a visit to Robin Hoods Bay, which can be accessed along the Cinder track and Cleveland Way, or any number of bays and coves along this magnificent coastline including Staithes, Runswick Bay and Saltburn. For a complete contrast, you can head inland and take in the breathtaking scenery of the North York Moors National Park. For a different kind of day you can take a steam train from Whitby into Goathland, also known as Aidensfield in the popular Heartbeat TV series. This is also the perfect place to make as your base for exploring the North York Moors National Park and the Yorkshire Heritage Coast. Travel by steam train into the heart of ‘Heartbeat’ country or take a fishing trip out to sea on one of the many boat trips that leave the harbour with the hope of seeing whales, seals or dolphins. The Cleveland Way snakes along the coast and is a must for those who enjoy the great outdoors. Robin Hood’s Bay and Runswick Bay are just some of the highlights along the coast, whilst the medieval walled city of York is just an hours’ drive or train ride away. Enjoy a countryside walk, right from your doorstep, down into nearby Staithes and joining onto the Cleveland Way as it snakes across cliff tops and down into hidden coves and bays. Staithes is popular with tourists and has a number of traditional pubs, a coffee shop and even its own independent art gallery. It has a fascinating history of pirates and smugglers, as well as links to Captain Cook who worked here as a child. Nearby Saltburn-by-the-Sea is a fabulous up and coming holiday destination with plenty of places to eat and drink as well as a pier, and is well known in the area as a surfer’s paradise with a number of schools for those wanting to give it a try. The Gothic town of Whitby is just 13 miles away and is famous for its links to Bram Stoker’s Dracula. It offers a hectic schedule of festivals and events all year round including the Goth Weekend, Folk Week and its own Regatta, as well as cobbled streets full of independent shops and traders. The Whitby Abbey towers over the town and can be reached by climbing the famous 199 steps and affords fantastic views of the town and out to sea. There are plenty of traditional dog friendly pubs with live music, tea rooms and delis, as well as some fantastic places to eat. Why not catch a tourist boat out to sea in search of minke whales and seals, or enjoy a trip on the steam train that snakes its way through the National Park into Heartbeat Country. There are plenty of seaside towns and villages to explore along this dramatic coastline, or take a trip to the walled city of York with its many attractions.
