Situated within the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, these carefully converted barns now provide two beautiful holiday cottages in a secluded, south facing, courtyard setting with stunning, uninterrupted views over Ryedale. Riccal Heads (ITS) has a large dining table which can seat 10 people, perfect if both properties are booked together. The area is excellent for both walking and cycling and the picturesque villages and quaint market towns await exploration. Breathtaking sea views of both the North and South Bays can be enjoyed from nearly all the rooms in this imposing, Grade II listed Georgian town house which is peacefully situated on the headland under the shadow of Scarborough’s historic castle and opposite St Mary’s church, the final resting place of Anne Brontë. Whilst retaining many original features, the house has been refurbished to an exceptional standard. The first and second floor bedrooms enjoy either North or South Bay views. The first floor bedroom has a super-kingsize bed, original tiled fireplace and a magnificent en-suite with a raised bath and separate shower. The three bedrooms on the second floor have, respectively, a kingsize oak bed, a French double bed and twin beds. In the lower-ground floor sitting room there is a living flame gas fire.
The property has a spectacular clifftop garden with 180-degree North Bay and castle views, as well as a hot tub. Positioned a 5-minute walk from the heart of the town and a 10-minute walk from the beach, this makes a perfect base for exploring Britain’s original seaside resort with its sandy, accredited North Bay beach, award-winning Sea Life Marine Sanctuary and working harbour with small fishing fleet. On the south side there are boat trips around the bay and a great choice of restaurants, bars, cafes and traditional seaside stalls. Music lovers can visit the Scarborough Spa, which stages regular concerts and is home to the UK’s only remaining professional seaside orchestra, book tickets to the Open Air Theatre (past performers include Elton John and Duran Duran) or enjoy live music or karaoke in the town’s lively pubs. The famous Stephen Joseph Theatre offers an impressive evening programme of theatre and film, including plays by Scarborough’s very own Alan Ayckbourn.
Shops and pubs are 220 yards from the house and the North Bay, Old Town and town centre attractions are within walking distance. Scarborough has superb independent shops, especially at the historic Indoor Market, and countless family-friendly attractions, such as the Alpamare water slides and the quaint North Bay Railway. For energetic visitors, there’s surfing, paddleboarding, bodyboarding, golf and outstanding walking, both by the sea and inland. Further north along the Heritage coast lie the smugglers’ coves of Robin Hood’s Bay and Staithes, and the North York Moors National Park is easily accessible with its steam railway, pretty villages and spectacular scenery.

Situated at Staithes, near Whitby, these former World War I army bunkers are in an idyllic position close to the countryside and sea. Four of the barracks have been ingeniously and tastefully transformed to provide good quality accommodation retaining much rustic character and charm. The remaining four lodges retain their near original condition as a visual reminder of their former function. Each refurbished lodge has the added advantage of free parking, an outdoor sitting area and bike parking racks.
Situated just off the Cleveland Way, there are many fine moorland and cliff top walks. There is a golf course and driving range in Brotton, 6¾ miles away, and at Scaling Reservoir, 7¼ miles, there is sailing and fishing. There is a leisure centre 2 miles down the road and a 2-minute stroll down the cobbled street brings you to the centre of the picturesque fishing village with its small harbour nestling beneath rugged cliffs. Step back in time and walk the quaint narrow passages, as Captain James Cook himself must have done. Here in Staithes there are village shops, pubs, cafés and a restaurant, and in 2020 the village was featured on the BBC programme ’Gone Christmas Fishing’ with Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer. Why not travel on Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Express (the North Yorkshire Moors Railway) through ’Heartbeat’ country, or visit Whitby and its famous abbey which is 11 miles away.

Eldin Hall Cottages are set in a peaceful area and have been added more recently to the restored old Victorian waterworks. The four cottages have their own enclosed decked patios with garden furniture, and The Gatehouse has its own enclosed private lawned garden. There is also a shared garden with a fantastic play area for the children. The owners, who just 10 minutes away, will be there to greet guests whenever possible, and are available any time to provide information and assistance when it is required.
Situated between Cayton and Cayton Bay, the cottages are an ideal base to visit the east coast, North York Moors and the Yorkshire Wolds. The beach at Cayton Bay is less than a mile away (2 miles by road) and just a little further up the coast is the popular seaside town of Scarborough. The resorts of Filey, Flamborough Head and Bridlington are just a short drive away. The walks along the clifftops are spectacular and form part of the Cleveland Way walk. The RSPB bird sanctuary at Bempton Cliffs attracts visitors from worldwide and is just a short drive from the cottages. Here you can see puffins, kittiwakes and lots of other migrating seabirds. Not to be missed during your stay (as it’s always voted as one of the top ten cities to visit) is the wonderful city of York which is less than an hour away by car, or the train is direct from Scarborough. Adjoining the owners’ home and surrounded by countryside with grazing cattle and roaming hens, they lie just 2 miles from the coast, and make ideal bases for walkers, cyclists and nature lovers and for exploring the numerous local attractions. The quaint fishing village of Robin Hood’s Bay, with its hidden cobbled streets and smuggling history, is just a 5-mile drive and the historic port of Whitby, 11 miles, is renowned for its ancient abbey and connections with Captain James Cook and Count Dracula, not forgetting its famous fish and chips! The traditional seaside resort of Scarborough, 10 miles, offers miles of sandy beaches, fishing and speedboat trips, the Rotunda Museum, Stephen Joseph Theatre and musical concerts at The Spa and in Peasholme Park. Situated in one of the most picturesque villages in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, with majestic views of Malham Cove from the rear, this cosy, Grade II listed, semi-detached cottage has been lovingly restored to a very good standard. Exposed beams, stone walls and a woodburner add to its character and make this an ideal place for getaway holidays throughout the year. Walks can be enjoyed across the fields and fells of Malhamdale, with access to the Pennine Way close by, and amid the spectacular scenery of the National Park all around. Malham is a traditional Dales village with a stream running through the centre, offering the choice of two pubs, teashops and the National Park Centre. Shop 2.5 miles, pub and restaurant 250 yards.

Tucked away in the peaceful village of Middleton this little cottage dates back to the 1750’s, where it was once a tiny farmhouse with its own small allotment that they used for animals and crops. This quaint hideaway still retains many of its original charm, with beamed ceilings and lots of character. With the benefit of your own designated off-road parking bay. Please note that the drive is narrow and may not be suitable for large vehicles. A footpath follows you through the courtyard with a table for two. There is also a bike shed with suitable storage adjacent to the parking area with a seating area too.

Stepping inside you will find the adorable country kitchen, which is compact yet has everything required to create delicious home-made meals to delight your loved one. The kitchen is open plan with the dining area, with a table perfect for two. The living is separate, with a sofa and armchair around the small but mighty “hobbit” stove, that ensures you are snug and toasty after a busy day exploring. Wooden stairs lead you up from the living room to the first floor landing, where you have a beautifully presented kingsize bedroom, with a large wardrobe for all of your belongings.

This is the ideal destination for those who love the great outdoors, with incredible scenic views in the National Park to soak up. There are wonderful woodland walks through Dalby forest nearby, as well as many scenic bays along the coast only a 40 minutes’ drive away. Middleton itself is a small village just on the edge of the market town of Pickering. In Middleton you have a popular pub serving hearty meals, as well as a small tearoom and a local shop. Neighbouring Pickering has a medieval castle as well as a steam train which winds its way from Pickering over the rolling heather, through valleys and hill all the way to Whitby on the coast.

The North York Moors is a haven for walkers with many trails to explore and an abundance of wildlife. Nearby you have Malton, the food capital of Yorkshire, with a market, award-winning restaurants, and a cookery school. Castle Howard is one of Britain’s finest stately homes, sure to fill you with awe. There are also the beaches of Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington, with historical Whitby and whimsical Robin Hoods Bay all ideal for a day out to treasure.
