The cottage lies within a private 200-acre family-run farm and boasts its own enclosed orchard and courtyard. The orchard leads on to a footpath which, in one direction, takes you to the village of Hookagate with a pub that welcomes dogs and is popular for food, and a regular bus service to Shrewsbury. In the other direction the footpath leads to Hanwood, also with a village pub and local shop. The barns at Bretton Alkmere Farm are perfect for a family get together or a friend’s holiday with plenty of luxurious extras. The Brewhouse (UK44073) sleeps two, The Granary (UK44074) sleeps six, The Dairy (UK44130) sleeps eight and The Stables (UK44139) sleeps 10 and all have been decorated to a high modern standard whilst cleverly preserving the characteristics of the original barns.

Bursting with independent shops, coffee bars and restaurants and set on the banks of the River Severn, there’s plenty to see and do. Farmers markets are laid on throughout the year, and events happening all the time, it’s a must visit. In the nearby Shropshire Hills, hikers and cyclists can explore the varied landscape, stopping in at numerous quaint villages along the way to explore meadows, hills, and woodland. Or visit one of many of the National Trust properties close by. There’ something for everyone, the special places in Shropshire are just waiting to be discovered. Easily accessible is popular Church Stretton, on the edge of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which is fabulous walking country with many famous hills such as the Long Mynd with the beautiful Carding Mill Valley, the Wrekin and the Lawley.
Shropshire’s finest and most attractive town Ludlow is within easy reach, framed by the gentle Clee Hills, with its impressive castle, magnificent church, half-timbered buildings, Georgian red-brick houses and different markets five days a week such as general, farmers, craft, or antique.
Bridgnorth has what is reputed to be the steepest cliff railway in Britain and superb cliff-top walks overlooking the River Severn below. From here, during summer, the Severn Valley Railway’s steam train chugs the scenic 16-mile route to Kidderminster. Attingham Park (National Trust), Benthall Hall (National Trust), Ironbridge Gorge and the old market town of Much Wenlock, with its medieval priory, are all within easy driving distance. Set next to the owner’s own property, The Roost is set in a peaceful and quiet part of the Shropshire countryside.

In a semi-isolated position, in the rural hamlet of Upton Cressett, Orchard Cottage is surrounded by the most amazing scenery, with its own private hot tub and patio area in an enclosed garden and robes provided for your convenience. Activity centres are dotted around the county offering anything from clay shooting, high ropes and canoeing to mountain biking and Segway and quad trekking. Nearby is also the historical National Trust Attingham Park, Wenlock Edge and Cardingmill Valley, as well as Stokesay and Ludlow castles. The Secret Hills Discovery Centre and Acton Scott Working Farm are great for children, and the glider centre on the Long Mynd and horse racing at Ludlow are also available nearby. Just a short car journey takes you to the world famous Ironbridge and its popular museums, The Royal Air Force Museum and Boscobel House. A few miles upstream of Bridgnorth is Shrewsbury, England’s finest Tudor town, which has one of the best waterfronts, a wide variety of shops, bars and a riverside theatre. Attingham Park, Benthall Hall, Dudmaston Hall, Rays Farm Country Matters, Much Wenlock, West Midland Safari Park, Cleobury Mortimer and Ludlow are also well worth a visit.
