Nearby Bishops Castle, Clun and Church Stretton are ’Walkers are Welcome’ towns, and have a variety of marked walks and leaflets. There are several National Trust and English Heritage properties and gardens within easy driving distance, as well as an eclectic mix of independent shops in Shrewsbury. If your hungry after all the exploring, try the hearty food in the nearby pubs, seek out the local tea shops, peruse the farmers’ markets, head to Ludlow for fine fayre or pop over the Welsh border for ice cream made fresh on a farm, or just treat yourself to a relaxing night in. Formerly a stone outbuilding and artists’s studio, the cottage is a blend of original features and refurbished country cosiness. Pick up a bottle of wine in the village shop, watch the sun go down from the patio or orchard, cook yourself something nice in the well-equipped kitchen and settle down in front of the wood burner. You’ll find the kitchen fully equipped for a self-catering holiday and there’s plenty of room for four around the table.

There is a family bathroom on this floor with a shower over the bath, convenient after a day out hiking.

The master bedroom features a super king-size bed and en-suite shower room with toilet.

The second bedroom is a twin room and has a cosy feel with a view of the landscape outside. There’s some outdoor furniture in the pretty enclosed garden, which is home to a pond.

There are plenty of interesting things to do in the area with the National Trust’s, Powys castle, Wroxeter Roman City and the museums at Ironbridge nearby.

Shrewsbury is full of life and things to be discovered by foot or by boat. The café culture, weekly farmer’s market, the castle, and lots of attractive independent shops are just under a 30-minute drive.

Further afield takes you to the medieval market town of Ludlow, famous for its castle as well as many food and drink festivals throughout the year to enjoy.

Little Whitley is the former staff quarters to the main house, which started life in the 1600s, and has since been sympathetically restored into a stunning self-catering holiday property for up to four guests. The cottage lies within a private 200-acre family-run farm and boasts its own enclosed orchard and courtyard. The orchard leads on to a footpath which, in one direction, takes you to the village of Hookagate with a pub that welcomes dogs and is popular for food, and a regular bus service to Shrewsbury. In the other direction the footpath leads to Hanwood, also with a village pub and local shop. Whitley provides the perfect destination for couples, families and anyone looking for a relaxing rural retreat.

Set on the banks of the River Severn, Shrewsbury is one of the country’s most picturesque medieval towns. Dotted with flowers and parks, and renowned for the historic Shrewsbury Abbey and Castle, this bustling town is home to a lively independent shopping scene, restaurants, bars and some unforgettable days out. Ludlow is a thriving medieval market town in Shropshire and an architectural gem with a lively community feel, busy with events and festivals throughout the year and just under an hour away. In a quiet location just 2½ miles from Ellesmere, this beautiful, detached, converted barn has been lovingly furnished to a impeccable standard with its own private, south facing garden and patio to the rear. The property is decorated with a Christmas theme during the festive season. Adjacent to the owner’s home, it is ideally placed for exploring the counties of Shropshire, Cheshire, mid and north Wales, and is surrounded by popular tourist destinations and attractions, such as Llangollen with its horse drawn canal barges, steam railway, white water rafting centre, Erddig and Chirk Castle, Powys Castle and Attingham Park. Chester racecourse and the medieval towns of Shrewsbury, Ludlow and Bridgnorth are an easy drive, not forgetting Ironbridge, a World Heritage Site. For the more active, go karting, paintballing and canoeing are all available nearby. Shop 1 mile, pub and restaurant 2½ miles.

The lodge itself is a converted, small L-shape property all set on one level. An open plan layout with a kitchen with all the mod cons, a large dining area big enough for six and a light spacious lounge with a wood burner, excellent too cosy up next to after your long county walks or the colder nights.
There are also two good sized bedrooms and a shared bathroom. To the right of the property you will find a small secure paddock with picnic benches where you can sit and have a morning coffee reading the paper and planning your day.

A breakfast bar with two stools perfectly positioned to enjoy watching the designated cook whip up a feast from the lovely local produce you’ve picked up that day while enjoying a pre-dinner drink. Wooden stairs lead from the dining area up to the first floor with a large comfortable double bedroom and a lovely bathroom where you can enjoy a candlelit bath in a freestanding bathtub. Heading up to the second floor is a double bedroom and ensuite shower room with gorgeous, high exposed beams and charming rooftop views across to Whitcliffe Common.
Outside there is an enclosed garden perfect for enjoying your morning coffee or sundowner. The garden enjoys sun all day long and is ideal for your pooch. There are two terraces with garden furniture and a BBQ ideal for alfresco dining.
Ludlow was described by Poet Sir John Betjeman as "probably the loveliest town in England". Sheltered by Mortimer Forest and the Clee Hills, the town is filled with a wide variety of listed buildings that meander alongside the banks of the beautiful river Teme. Guests can also enjoy several award-winning Michelin Star restaurants, the famous Ludlow market, Wycliffe Common and a variety of superb independent coffee shops, eateries, and river walks for a wonderful day trip.

These two properties are in the pretty village of Burwarton, at the foot of The Brown Clee Hill, and located just a minutes walk from a country pub ’The Boyne Arms’, which has been renovated and is run by the owners’ of these properties. The Boyne Arms offers fantastic meals in a most comfortable and cosy setting, the beer garden outside now includes private pods which guests can use to enjoy their drinks and food outside (see their website for opening and serving times). Included in your short break will be a return journey to either Ludlow or Bridgnorth, to enhance your stay without the need to worry about transport.
The Old School House 1 (UK32061) is a three bedroomed property of which one is en-suite and has a mezzanine balcony overlooking the open plan living space. The Old Kitchen (UK32062) is a studio apartment with the bedroom area in with the living area.
Burwarton is close to Shrewsbury, Ironbridge, Ludlow and Bridgnorth which all offer an array of attractions as well as a large range of shops and bars. For the more active guests there are many walks to enjoy such as Clee Burf and Brown Clee Hill which is the highest point in Shropshire. The town of Ludlow is also just a short drive away and highlights for the day include Mortimer Forest and Ludlow Castle. After a long day walking and exploring all that Shropshire has to offer. Jackdaw Cottage sits on the Glyndwr’s Way footpath on the edge of the beautiful town of Knighton, within easy walking distance from the Offa’s Dyke Visitors Centre as well as the restaurants, bars and cafes in the town centre. It is on the south facing slope of a lovely small green valley know as ‘the Cwm’. The stone property is 200 years old with exposed stone walls and oak lintels. It has a large, enclosed garden and patio overlooking the wooded valley with private access to the clear babbling brook. The cottage has been renovated to a high standard in 2022/2023 with some beautiful character features throughout, perfect for a family holiday or romantic break away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. it’s great for children and your four-legged friends to run about in this open space whilst you watch on, with a glass of something nice and listen to the local wildlife.
