The centre is registered with Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) charity. There are tremendous circular cycling routes via Dilham Canal and a wealth of opportunities for walking direct from the doorstep, so do remember to pack your walking boots. The popular seaside town of Cromer, 15 miles, has a beach, promenade gardens, pier, shops, cafés and restaurants. There are sandy beaches at Happisburgh, Mundesley and Bacton within 20 minutes’ drive. Felbrigg and Blickling Halls (National Trust), and Sheringham Park are all within a 30-minute drive. Bressingham Hall is a fabulous and historic estate located in Norfolk. It was originally built in the late 17th century, with subsequent renovations and additions over the centuries. The estate has seen various owners and uses during its existence. One of its notable owners was the Reverend Richard Congreve, a key figure in the Victorian era who contributed significantly to the gardens at Bressingham. Hunstanton, 24 miles, has a pier with lively seasonal entertainment, a Sea Life Centre and cliff-top golf course. Heacham, 22 miles, is home to Norfolk Lavender and visitors may participate in guided tours of the expanse of lavender fields to observe the harvesting. Sandringham Estate,- the Queen’s country residence, with its Jacobean-style house, museum, superb gardens and park, are open to the public when the Royal Family is not in residence. To the south lies Ely Cathedral, known as the Ship of the Fens. This small city has an excellent Saturday market and a good variety of gift shops, as well as a pretty waterfront and boat hire.
The historic city of Cambridge is easily accessible for the day, and well worth a visit. One of the nicest ways to explore the city is by punt, which meanders through the city and passes many of the stunning university grounds. There are also many shops, pubs, restaurants, and theatres. Norwich, famous for its cathedral, is also within easy reach, and not to be missed. Don’t miss the famous mustard shop there as well, with many new and old varieties of mustard that can be purchased. As you make your way down the impressive, winding, private driveway which leads to Gresham Hall, you will feel the weight of the world leave your shoulders. Gresham Hall was built by Colonel Batt (hence the bat over the front door), between October 1907 and April 1908 using wooden scaffolding, labour and materials from the Gresham Estate, and the bricks were baked in a local kiln. Colonel Batt was very innovative, and after the war he generated his own electricity which served the property for many years, now having been replaced by a more eco-friendly pellet boiler to provide lots of hot water and cosy heating. The present owner bought the property in the 1980s and the family grew up there, enjoying the beautiful estate to the full. The current renovations were carried out between 2017 and 2019, giving the properties their contemporary feel and all the modern conveniences required by discerning guests for a lovely holiday.
