Cherry Tree Cottage has been decorated and furnished to a good standard and offers an excellent base for a family holiday tucked away in the centre of Bovey Tracey, the gateway to Dartmoor National Park. There are many walks on Dartmoor, as well as horse riding, fishing and excellent bird watching and nature reserves. Dray Cottage is set in the small hamlet of Fallapit, just outside the village of East Allington midway between the towns of Kingsbridge, Totnes and Dartmouth. This Area of Oustanding Natural Beauty has many sandy beaches and stunning coastline very close by, including Blue Flag beaches Slapton Sands, Beesands, East Portlemouth, Bantham, Bigbury and Thurlestone. The town of Dartmouth is nestled on the River Dart and offers boat trips, exclusive shops, galleries, many pubs and some famous restaurants. Totnes, 5 miles up the river, is a town steeped in history, enjoying a colourful and exuberant atmosphere, while Salcombe is another pretty riverside town, boasting a busy estuary with many yachts sailing by and a myriad of interesting shops and pubs in its winding streets. There are several National Trust properties in the area to explore and some delightful open gardens. With the South Hams coastal path stretching over 60 miles there is great walking and time can be spent exploring the rugged moorland.

The magnificent rugged English Heritage coastline of Hartland and beyond runs across the farm in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, offering a perfect haven for walking and bird watching or just to get away from the hustle of every day life. From your doorstep, meander down the track and through the cornfield to the secluded Berry Beach. With its sandy gullies and shingle beach, you can while away the days here, rock pooling, boogie boarding, fishing or just relaxing with a good book. There are many circular walks through leafy green lanes, ancient woodland footpaths, bridleways and the South West Coastal Path. You can take in sights such as Hartland Point Lighthouse, Damehole Point, where the final scene of the film ’King Arthur’ was shot starring Kiera Knightley and Clive Owen, Berry Head and Blackpool Mill, where much of the BBC series ’Sense and Sensibility’ was filmed. A 40-minute walk from Blegberry along the coast path will take you to Hartland Quay, with its Maritime Museum, gift shop and pub, family friendly beach and breathtaking views. Why not enjoy a traditional pub lunch and a pint and then meander your way back through the beautiful ancient abbey woods.
Children will love the pets corner on the farm, come and meet Hank the donkey a favourite with visitors to Blegberry. There is also a large playing field, and everyone will have fun in the indoor play barn complete with skittle alley, table tennis and pool table, as well as a play area for the little ones. The famous sandy surfing beaches of Westward Ho! and Bude are an easy drive and for family fun, The Big Sheep and The Milky Way adventure parks are close by. There are numerous National Trust properties in the area, as well as the RHS gardens at Rosemoor and Docton Mill. Clovelly, with its quaint cobbled streets and picturesque harbour, is a must. The village of Hartland is just 3 miles and has a good selection of village shops and pubs, all serving local produce. The historic port of Bideford, with its lively market, as well as the Lundy Island ferry and array of shops and other amenities, is just 15 miles. With sea views, this is an enchanting holiday location with a private, 30-minute walk to a secluded pebble and sand beach and the spectacular South West Coastal Path (access only available from 2nd Feb - 31st Aug), where a chain of magnificent cliffs stretches along the Heritage Coast to Hartland Point. A pretty, 60-minute walk across fields leads to a little-known sandy beach (Porledge Beach), which is a wonderful sun trap and well off the tourist map, making it usually very quiet, even on the busiest summer day. The famous surfing beaches of Westward Ho! (4 miles) and Bude are an easy drive. Bikes can be hired to explore the nearby Tarka Trail and there is sailing, water skiing, golf and riding locally. In the grounds of the owners’ very well-presented and maintained fishing venue, these three holiday properties (refs 29794, 30788 and 31308) are well-equipped to ensure a restful holiday. Kingfisher is a detached, single-storey cottage, sleeping six guests, The Lodge is set over two floors and sleeps four guests, and Mole is semi-detached and also sleeps four guests. The cottages have their own enclosed, lawned garden with sitting-out area and views across the beautiful grounds. There are two well-stocked coarse fishing lakes at Riverton which are included in the price of your stay, as well as a third beautiful lake (members only).

If you are not fishing, there is still plenty to do in this lovely part of Devon. Located just outside the regional town of Barnstaple, the cottages are in an ideal location to explore this stunning part of the British Isles. A few miles away, you have access to some of the best beaches in the country including Woolacombe and Saunton. The nearest beach at Instow is ideal for children or just a great place to walk off life’s stresses, and then enjoy a meal or drink at one of the pubs and restaurants along the front. The town of Barnstaple is only a short drive away and has most amenities you may require as well as a busy high street and market. There are numerous places of interest close by including the RHS gardens at Rosemoor, Dartington Crystal and the historic fishing village of Clovelly. For the younger ones, a visit to the Big Sheep or Milkyway is a good option. There is walking on Dartmoor or hire a bike and cycle the Tarka Trail.
