The rich history of this area has been centred around ship building, take a visit to the North Devon Maritime Museum. The quay, popular with crabbing has a great many traditional fishing boats which also are neighbours with yachts and pleasure boats offering trips across, or along the Estuary. A trip to the pretty 17th century village of Instow is a must, (via foot ferry) which is a wonderful sheltered stretch of dog friendly sandy beach. The Arts and Crafts and local shops will give the option to find unique pieces, the Appledore Crafts Company is also well worth a visit.
