Bude has something for everyone including great beaches for relaxing and building sandcastles on, rockpools for investigating at low tide, and cafés to watch it all from. The rolling waves are great for surfing all year round and the footpaths by the restored canal or on the Southwest Coast Path offer you a superb opportunity to explore and appreciate the outstanding countryside. Bude also has a superb golf course, indoor swimming pool, bowling alley/indoor play area, and a heritage centre at Bude Castle. There is a safe life-guarded sandy beach and children’s play area and rock pooling further down the beach. The surfers come out when the water is right and there are body boards in the house. The lovely linked villages of Seaton and Downderry feature restaurants, pubs, beach cafe, coffee shop and a small shop all within a short walk. Ramblers will enjoy the scenic coastal footpath leading to the charming fishing ports and villages with quays, Looe is within easy reach as is Porwrinkle. For a gentle walk take the bus to Hessenford and stroll along the river through the beautiful valley and woodland heading back towards Seaton. By car you can easily access the Eden project and many coastal villages like Kingsand and Cawsand, where you can take a ferry to Plymouth for the day. Scenic Polperro is an enchanting village with quaint, traffic-free lanes and a fishing harbour surrounded with traditional inns and fisherman’s cottages. As one of the most easily accessed parts of Cornwall, you can usually expect to be on the beach just an hour after the Exeter M5 junction 31.

Set off for one of the many coastal walks, providing beautiful views at all times of the year, or uncover ancient Porth Island, reached by a narrow footbridge. The Lily Pad is a wonderful and welcoming holiday home, just a few miles from the dramatic Seven Bays of North Cornwall, famed for its stunning beaches, cliffs, and coves. Once inside you are greeted with a bright and airy, open-plan living space with relaxing sofas to sink into, a cosy wood burner (with ‘starter pack’ provided) for those cooler evenings, and attractive floor and wall art unique to the property and evocative of Cornwall and its heritage. You will find lovingly restored furniture and repurposed features in the side tables and display units, turning function into fun! Lead on to the dining area, complete with impressive handmade wooden dining table and seating for ten guests, looking out onto the garden. The wall here is adorned with a fantastic map of the county, a further reminder of the wonders of this amazing region and its many attractions and places to explore! The adjoining kitchen has a small breakfast bar area and plenty of workspace and equipment for preparing breakfast or your evening meal.

There are five bedrooms all on one level, where the unique and upcycled theme continues, with solid pine furniture given a fresh modern look. A roomy family bathroom includes a bath, while a second bathroom features a walk-in shower.

Outside, an excellent decking area with table, chairs and barbecue offers the ideal space to enjoy morning coffee or evening meal al fresco. There is even a firepit!

You are spoilt for a choice of beaches here; Harlyn Bay Beach, just 3 miles away, offers a broad expanse of golden sand stretching far before you. Trevose Headland offers spectacular vistas, whilst further beaches at Treyarnon Bay and beautiful Porthcothan Beach are just a short drive away, with rock pools for all ages to explore! Visit Padstow, with its fabulous seafood restaurants, busy quayside and narrow streets, or vibrant Newquay, with its plethora of vibrant bars and restaurants, and scintillating surfing and water sports activities.

Away from the coast, Camel Valley Theme Park, the world-renowned Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Heligan all offer fun days out, whilst Bodmin Moor is an atmospheric place, with mysterious rock formations and views as far as the eye can see. The Lily Pad is located amongst a mixture of holiday homes and residential homes on St Merryn Holiday Park which has the added benefit of offering free to use Tennis Courts, Children’s Play Area, and dedicated dog walking area plus amenities such as a shop and a bar/restaurant.

These three well-presented cottages, Cloisters Cottage (ref UKC1870), Stable Cottage (ref UKC1871) and Stable End (ref UKC1872) have been converted from parts of a historic building on the outskirts of the ancient Stannary town of Lostwithiel, providing charming holiday accommodation with a little local history attached. Peregrine Hall has 9 acres of woodland, gardens, terraces and walks for you to enjoy or simply relax with a cream tea on the terrace. The house stands on a hill overlooking the town of Lostwithiel, and was a gun site during the English Civil War. It was first known as St Faith’s House of Mercy, a refuge for ‘wayward girls’, who were rescued from Bodmin jail and put to work running a laundry which served Lanhydrock Estate and the local community.
The town of Lostwithiel is well known for being the centre of Cornwall’s antiques industry and is well served with great restaurants, local award winning pubs, craft shops and cafés on the River Fowey. This beautiful river is spanned by an ancient bridge with its own little beach and picnic area, and is within walking distance from Peregrine Hall. The riverside walks along its banks are a must, and if you are lucky you may see kingfishers, otters and other wildlife. Restormel Castle and The Duchy of Cornwall Nurseries are also close by and a must for all that visit the area. Lostwithiel provides the perfect base for touring the Duchy of Cornwall from its north coast with Padstow, Port Isaac and Polzeath, to the south coast with Fowey, Polperro and Mevagissey. All are lovely fishing villages and coastal towns, with many attractions for everyone, from sea fishing and kayaking to surfing and sailing.
The Lanhydrock Estate is a gothic stately home, gardens and grounds which is closely linked with Lostwithiel and is a stunning example of a National Trust house. There are also woodland walks, off road cycle trails and bike hire along with a museum and tea rooms. For the energetic, try golf at Lanhydrock, cycling along the nearby Camel Trail, or a walk to Respryn Bridge can all be enjoyed. The property features a private terrace accessed from the living area, offering marvellous sea views. Outside, there is a direct beach frontage and the properties are privately situated in established gardens, commanding an outstanding 180-degree panorama over the waters. An idyllic retreat nestling in glorious countryside on the edge of Bodmin Moor, this single-storey detached holiday cottage is beautifully presented. Guests can enjoy the owner’s delightful gardens, children must be supervised at all times if using this garden. Just 30 minutes’ drive to the Cornish coasts and ideal for nature lovers and walkers. Cycling, golf and horse riding locally. Liskeard 9 miles and Launceston are 5 miles away and for a great day out the Eden Project is an easy drive. Shop 3 miles, pub 1 mile.

Hallagenna Cottages are located in the village of St Breward, and comprise four traditional Cornish cottages set in five acres of land, in one of the most stunning parts of the country. Enjoy uninterrupted views of Bodmin Moor, amble along to the local 11th-century pub for your dinner, cycle and explore the famous 18-mile long Camel Trail (only a 5-minute drive away) which can be completed on foot or on bicycle, or take horse rides onto the moor virtually from your own front door (Hallagenna riding stables located opposite). The stunning Cornish coast and historic fishing villages such as Port Isaac and Padstow to name but a few are also within easy reach, and there’s so much more.
Hallagenna was once a farm and the home of Beatos, the black stallion from the Lloyds Bank adverts. Although now no longer a working farm, Hallagenna maintains its rural character. The farm has its own miniature pigs and chickens and horses graze in the paddock and share their fields with wild rabbits, which can be easily spotted amongst the grass. A wealth of wildlife can be found grazing the adjacent moor, including ponies, cattle and sheep. Hallagenna Cottages have their own access to Bodmin Moor so it’s ideal for dog walking, hiking, exploring or simply taking in the view.
This beautiful former farm worker’s cottage is set in open moorland (a designated Area of Natural Outstanding Beauty). The two-storey cottage retains many of its original features, such as traditional Cornish stone walls and exposed beams. This cottage accommodation includes TV/Freeview and DVD player. Wi-Fi access is also included. There is a wood burner to keep you warm on the winter nights, and a basket of logs is provided. The living room and dining area are located upstairs in the property. This allows you to make the most of the views across the courtyard and Bodmin Moor beyond.
There is the fully fitted kitchen including a fridge with an ice box, microwave and washer/dryer, a bathroom with bath/shower, and two bedrooms: one double and a second bedroom with two single beds. These are located downstairs in the property. The main bedroom is accessed by a small flight of stairs. A private barbecue is also provided so you can enjoy the warm Cornish sun in your enclosed courtyard garden located at the front of the property.

Polean Farm Cottages are located in Cornwall, down green lanes, off the Looe to Polperro road, just outside the village of Pelynt. The farm is set amongst rolling farmland and is less than 2 miles from the sea. All of the cottages are full of character and provide a cosy home-from-home. They have all been converted from original farm buildings which date back to the 18th century.
The Old Farmhouse (ref UK12895) is a historical, semi-detached farmhouse which has been tastefully renovated and is perfect for a large family get together or for two families to holiday together.
Little Owls Cottage (ref UK12896) is a detached barn named after the owls that still live in the nesting boxes around the building which can sometimes be heard at night. It is set in its own garden with glorious views across the farm and towards the village of Pelynt.
Rosebud Cottage (ref UK12897) and Shires Rest (ref UK12899) are pleasant, beamed cottages with lovely countryside views. Before being converted, both cottages were used to store hay in the winter and you can still see many of the original features.
Threpney Cottage (ref UK12898) is an imaginatively converted ’roundhouse’ and is full of character. The cottage was named after the old twelve sided three penny piece due to its shape.
Twinkles Cottage (ref UK12900) is a charming and spacious ‘upside down’, beamed cottage, with great views across the farm and surrounding countryside.
Waggoners Cottage (ref UK12901) is a delightful single-storey cottage, with its own garden and views of the front fields and the children’s play area at the rear. The cottage was named after the wagons that used to be stored in it and you can still see many of the original features of the barn.
The Mealhouse (ref UK12902) was originally used to store the feed or ‘meal’ for the pigs that resided in the pig sty which can still be seen across from it. The Mealhouse is detached and set slightly apart from the other cottages, offering uninterrupted views across the farm.
Polean Farm provides the perfect destination for a family holiday. The farm offers animal feeding each week day morning, where you may help bottle feed lambs (seasonal) and hand feed pigmy goats and chickens, as well as enjoy pony or tractor rides! The farm is also a working livery yard and children and parents often enjoy visiting the horses and ponies each day.
Guests have free use of an indoor heated swimming pool just a few minutes’ drive away. It’s perfect for families and children who want to splash around or those wanting to put in a few lengths and keep fit. Guests are also welcome to make free use of the nightly entertainment at the same local holiday complex which is just a few minutes’ drive from the farm. The entertainment is on every night and includes children’s entertainment, followed by grown up entertainment with top musicians, performers and comedians regularly appearing throughout the season. Children are allowed in the venue for the whole evening. Please note, the pool is not available during August due to overcrowding, and entertainment is not available November-March (except during school holidays).
