All three cottages have been tastefully converted from original old stone farm buildings; and wherever possible the original features have been retained. Old pitch pine beams stretch unhindered through bedrooms and across stairways and the local slate and sandstone are in evidence throughout. Guests are welcomed with fresh flowers, along with well furnished comfortable holiday accommodation, wood-burning stoves and well-equipped kitchens. For good walking, fells nearby include High Street range, 1 mile, and Helvellyn, 10 miles. The market town of Penrith, 5 miles; whilst the attractions of Keswick are 14 miles. Shops, pubs and restaurants ½ mile.

There are many walking and cycling opportunities to be had from the door including easy access to Binsey Fell which provides a thrilling viewpoint from the summit. There is interest wildlife to be seen in close proximity including deer, and red squirrels.

This large, mid-terraced property in Bassenthwaite is ideal for a memorable Lake District escape, a family get together or special occasion and can easily accommodate multiple couples. With an excellent pub and restaurant across the road it makes a great choice for walking and cycling groups. This delightful cottage has comfortable furniture throughout and features four good sized bedrooms upstairs. The master has a double bed and a contemporary en-suite shower room. It has two double rooms, one with a kingsize bed, as well as a comfortable twin room. The modern bathroom suite has a large bath with views of Bassenthwaite lake, and a walk-in shower and heated towel rail.

The ground floor features an open plan living/dining room with a cosy open fire. There is also a snug, a great space to relax or read, and a lovely sun room which overlooks the garden. You can explore this stunning area on foot yet you are only a few miles from Keswick, Cockermouth and the surrounding Lakeland Fells. Well behaved dogs are welcome to come along and there are plenty of dog friendly pubs and restaurants in the area. The quiet village location means that you can escape your busy lifestyle and retreat to the countryside in no time. Whether you like walking, hiking or cycling, you are never too far away from your next adventure. There is good access to plenty of walking and cycle routes nearby as well as more challenging fells including Skiddaw, Catbells, Latrigg and Blencathra. You can walk to Bassenthwaite Lake in under 1 mile and also to Bassenthwaite village with an excellent village pub.

Just under a mile away is The Lake District Wildlife Park with over 100 species of wild animals. Visit The Lakes Distillery, producers of fine whisky, gin and vodka and offering tasting tours, always a hit. Just 7 miles away is the popular town of Keswick on the shores of Derwent Water, with an abundance of dining and shopping experiences as well as a mix of cultural hotspots and tourist attractions. Visit The Theatre by the Lake offering award-winning arts and drama on the shores of Derwent Water and the mind-boggling world of The Puzzling Place, fun for all age. Beach 16 miles. The southern Lake District is easily accessible for those wanting to explore the area. The pretty village of Cartmel is just a short drive away, or why not catch a lake cruise from Newby Bridge Pier, it really is the best way to see Windermere. Brook House 1 is a beautiful 17th century, beamed cottage overlooking a stream, with a wood burner, its own enclosed garden and just a couple of minutes’ stroll to the pub serving food and local ales. There is a fitted open plan kitchen/dining room well equipped for a family holiday. There is a spacious living room with a wood burner and a ground floor wet room. On the first floor there are four bedrooms, with the master benefiting from an en-suite, the other bedrooms are serviced by an additional bath/shower room with toilet. Brook House Holiday Cottages are located in the heart of Bassenthwaite village in the northern region of The Lake District National Park, Cumbria, approximately 15-minute drive from the towns of Keswick and Cockermouth. This is an excellent base to explore some of the quieter corners of the Lake District. Bassenthwaite village is 2 miles from the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake (an ideal walk to the only official lake in the Lake District) and 2 miles from the foot of Skiddaw, the fourth highest mountain in the Lake District. There are excellent walks for all abilities straight from the cottage door or after a short drive away.
The Lake District Wildlife Park is just a 5-minute drive from the cottage, while Mirehouse historic house and adventure playgrounds is under 10 minutes drive towards Keswick.
The Lakes Distillery is under 10 minutes drive towards Cockermouth offering guided tours, or for those wanting to treat themselves with some pampering, there is a spa just 5 minutes drive from the cottage. Keswick is a magnet for the Lake District visitor with Lake Derwentwater, several parks including crazy golf, mini golf and putting, all its outdoor shops, cafés, restaurants, galleries, museum, cinema, theatre, brewery and more. Cockermouth has a visitor centre, antique shops, Jennings Brewery, Wordsworth House (the birthplace of the poet William Wordsworth), the annual food festival in September and a good selection of unique independent shops and eateries. Nearest shops in Keswick or Cockermouth, 15 minutes drive or many supermarkets do on-line deliveries, pub and restaurant 200 yards.

The market town of Cockermouth sits on the edge of the Lake District National Park, offering an abundance of independent shops, cafés and restaurants. The Derwent River runs alongside the town and provides pretty riverside walks along the castle walls and brewery buildings. Be sure to stop by at Wordsworth House, once home to the famous poet of the same name, which has a delightful walled garden that once served as the inspiration for his poetry. From here you are just a short drive from Keswick, and many of the popular fells including Skiddaw, Sale Fell and Ling Fell can be accessed along the way. For golfers, Cockermouth and Keswick both offer access for non-members, and mountain bikers will be keen to tackle the demanding trails at Whinlatter Forest. Stunning beaches along the west coast include St Bees, home of the coast-to-coast challenge. Families will enjoy a day out at the Lake District Wildlife Park or for a wet and rainy day the Aquarium at Maryport is a great choice. There is plenty of storage provided for two guests with a wardrobe and drawers. The en-suite is huge and has been finished to a high specification. There are a further two double rooms both with en-suite shower rooms and a further room with a large zip and link bed and family bathroom directly across the hallway. There’s a large garage which can be utilised for cycle storage, kayaks, paddleboards, canoes, and such like. There’s a washing machine in the garage too, should you need to refresh your towels after a day at the lake.
This property is perfectly placed to enjoy all that Bownesss-on-Windermere has to offer, including some of the Lake District’s finest attractions. Take a cruise on Lake Windermere to Ambleside or across to Lakeside to enjoy a day at the aquarium, or hop on the steam train to Haverthwaite. Alternatively, try your hand at sailing and hire your own boat for a few hours. Paddle boarding is also a popular activity on the lake, so if you have one, then it’s certainly worth bringing it along. Bowness-on-Windermere is also home to Beatrix Potter World and the wonderful Art Deco Royalty Cinema. If you’re feeling energetic, so many walks can be found nearby including ’Orrest Head’ in Windermere, a relatively short walk offering spectacular views over Lake Windermere. Some of the Lake District’s fantastic fells are a mere short drive away, as well as the small ’Alpine’ like village of Grasmere, where William Wordsworth is laid to rest at St. Oswald’s Church, and if you’re a fan of Gingerbread, a visit to Grasmere Gingerbread shop is a must!
