Just 2 miles from South Steading, is the pretty seaside town of West Kilbride with fantastic views across the water to Arran and surrounding islands. Horse riding, quad biking and golf are all available locally, and the 7stanes offers world class mountain biking across Dumfries and Galloway, and the Scottish Borders. Rod hire is available in town for three fishing lochs at the Green Frog Centre on the edge of Moffat, which also has an adventure play park and animal farm.
Further afield there is an abundance of delights on offer, from the many beautiful beaches and forests to historic castles and stunning gardens. There are more than 200 miles of fabulous coastline for you to discover with some stunning scenery, much of which you can discover on the Southwest Coastal 300. These include Glenlivet, Macallan, Glenfiddich, Aberlour, Glenfarclas and Balvenie. Dufftown is only 5 miles along Glenrinnes and is one of the major distillery centres where you can join a walk visiting all nine based in the town.
There are many castles to visit in the area starting with Ballindalloch Castle frequently referred to as The Jewel of the North. The North East 250 route leads to Deeside for Balmoral, Braemar, Crathies, Drum and numerous other castles. Within an hour’s drive are the sandy beaches on the south coast of the Moray Firth including Cullen, Lossiemouth and Nairne together with a number of small harbours and view points for seeing dolphins on the incoming tide.
For golf lovers, Ballindalloch, Dufftown and Grantown-on-Spey courses are close at hand with a number of links courses along the rugged coastline. Around a 36-mile journey will bring you to Aviemore, a popular large village offering plenty to keep the whole family entertained. Predominantly built out of local sandstone, Tain is a charming historic town which offers an excellent selection of small shops, restaurants, cafés and pubs, as well as a wide variety of sporting and recreational facilities. Nearby places of interest include the whisky distillery centre, home of the famous Glenmorangie Distillery where you can take a tour and sample the single malt, the famous Falls of Shin, one of the few places to see salmon leaping close to hand, and the enchanting town of Dornoch, with its magnificent cathedral, sandy beach and championship golf course.
