Suitable for two adults and two children aged between 3-14, or couples, as its name suggests, The Stable originally housed the working Clydesdale’s on the farm. Still a working farm, The Stable has now been converted into a comfortable holiday cottage, refurbished in 2018, nestled in the Girthon Valley and surrounded by some of the best scenery in Galloway, with great walks, both woodland and coastal. Galloway has 200 miles of beautiful coastline, wild mountains and moorland, pretty towns and charming villages. The area also offers a wide range of activities for the whole family to enjoy, be it visiting the local ice cream factory, Cream O’ Galloway at Sandgreen or the CocoaBean Chocolate Factory at Twynholm. The cottage is only a few minute’s drive from the charming town of Gatehouse of Fleet which offers a wide range of places to eat and relax. There are many attractions in and around the town including the Mill on the Fleet Visitor Centre and Cardoness Castle. Beach 1½ miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 2 miles.

The coastal village of Southerness has undoubtedly some of the most outstanding views of the Solway Firth to the English Lake District. Explore the beach and the striking white landmark of the Lighthouse, built in 1749, or challenge yourself on the championship golf course.

This charming detached, single-storey cottage, with a beautiful garden, is situated only yards from the shore in the small hamlet of Kirkandrews. It is surrounded by stunning views over open countryside and only a couple of miles from the village of Borgue, with a local pub and restaurant. The nearest supermarket is 7½ miles away which offers a reliable delivery service.
Gullieside Cottage is situated only a short drive from the pretty harbour town of Kirkcudbright, locally known as the artists town, with many festivals throughout the year, including Scottish nights, classic car rallies, historic walks, a medieval fayre, a jazz festival and a spectacular Tattoo, as well as a good selection of pubs and restaurants. There is a large variety of outdoor pursuits on offer, including fishing, horse riding in Galloway Forest Park, cycling, golf and water sports. Threave Garden and Estate, owned by the National Trust, proves to be a popular visitor attraction. Culbae Cottage, whilst set in a delightful rural area amidst rolling farmland is just few miles from the small village of Whauphill and only five miles from the coast and the lovely little village of Port William. Port William, known as the ‘Machars of Galloway’ has a rugged coastline and boasts stunning views over Luce Bay to the Mull of Galloway and the Isle of Man. Situated in the heart of Galloway amidst some of the finest scenery in southern Scotland, it is ideally located to explore the breathtaking scenery and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
In Port William, enjoy a meal or glass of wine whilst looking out over the harbour. There are many and varied attractions around the area and visit to Wigtown, Scotland’s very own book town, where you can meander around the town enjoying the many and varied book shops. Another must is a visit to Bladnoch Distillery, established in 1814, which offers a large shop and guided tours. There are many walking and cycling trails, including the world famous 7Stanes trails in the Galloway Forest Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, on your doorstep, as well as golf, sailing, fishing, and riding. With a wealth of things to do in the area, Culbae Cottage is the perfect location.

Brick Cottage No. 1 is situated close to the Galloway Forest Park, Britain’s largest forest park with three hundred square miles of wild beauty waiting to be explored. The park boasts tranquil valleys, rugged rock faces, forest, moorland, lochs and ancient woodland, and a huge diversity of wildlife including red and roe deer, wild goats and many birds of prey. The park has also been awarded the status of one of only four Dark Sky Parks in the western world and when the sun sets, enthusiasts come to wonder at the universe revealed above. Dalmellington at the far end of the park is home to the Scottish Dark Observatory.

For the outdoor enthusiast, Galloway offers hill walking, mountain biking and water sports, with many renowned gardens and ancient woodland to explore with a chance to glimpse the abundant wildlife. The towns of Castle Douglas, known as the ’food town’, Gatehouse of Fleet and Kirkcudbright are all within a short drive. Gatehouse of Fleet offers a wider range of places to eat and drink, and there are many attractions in and around the town including the Mill on the Fleet Visitor Centre, Cardoness Castle and the popular Laggan Outdoor Activity Centre, which is host to one of Europe’s longest zip wires. Kirkcudbright, known as the artists’ town’, attracts visitors throughout the year drawn by the harbour, historic high street and the diverse range of annual events and visitor attractions. This detached country cottage, renovated in 2020/2021 is situated on a working farm and boasts stunning views over to the Mull of Galloway and over towards the Isle of Man. This area of Dumfries and Galloway boasts rugged coastlines and secluded sandy beaches, which benefit from the warmth of the passing Gulf Stream. The cottage is surrounded by breathtaking scenery, offering an ideal base from which to explore the Machars Peninsula and the Galloway Hills.
There are many beautiful gardens to visit, including the renowned Logan Botanical Gardens, which is a paradise to behold. You can also explore quaint villages such as Sandhead, Port William, Portpatrick, The Isle of Whithorn and the Mull of Galloway, home to the RSPB nature reserve, where thousands of seabirds nest on the cliff face during spring and summer.
The cottage is a short drive from Wigtown, which is famous for being Scotland’s National Book Town, a book lovers haven. This is also a great destination for cycling, fishing and golfing with St Medans 9 hole golf course and beach just 1½ miles down the road. This is a fantastic area for walkers, whether you are interested in clifftop, beach, hills or forest walks. Revealing a fascinating glimpse into its ancient stables heritage, Coachman sits at the heart of the courtyard within a rural idyll, binding a classically Grade II listed exterior with rustic interiors. The kitchen has been restored from its original form, and you’ll find fascinating nooks and crannies for storage within the original range which has stood in its place since the 1900s.
The window at the sink provides glimpses into the ’pleasure ground’, an area at Dunskey that is dedicated to our botanical walled garden, the vegetable garden, and the maze. The historic cobblestone courtyard at Coachman is one of its most charming features which will encourage you to linger in this enclosed outdoor space for reading and lounging in the sun. Just a few steps away is the lovely and utterly private walled garden. Upstairs, the master bedroom showcases a handpainted mural that is guaranteed to get hearts swooning. Super kingsize bed, eclectic artworks, and mid-century inspired furnishings ensure a comfortable stay. The bathroom provides a large walk-in shower and a full bath, and of course, always stocked with Dunskey’s own bath amenities. The second bedroom boasts an impressive wardrobe that will rival one of Marie Antoinette. Indeed, antique crowns and canopy over the two single beds will delight anyone who’s ever entertained the fantasy of living like lords and ladies on their own private estate. Broomlands Cottage is a lovely traditional detached cottage delightfully set close to some stunning countryside walks. It has been completely renovated and modernised throughout in 2020 and offers a real home from home feeling with good quality furnishings and fittings. The modern kitchen is a real joy with all modern appliances and a lovely Belfast sink. The cosy living room has an inviting wood burner, just the place to sit and relax reminiscing on your day’s activities over a glass of wine. With a large fully enclosed garden surrounding the cottage your four legged friend will feel right at home too.
Beattock is situated 2 miles from Moffat, a vibrant and bustling little town which attracts visitors throughout the year. With pathways from Broomlands why not take a walk into Moffat on a fine day and have a wander around the many speciality shops and cafés in the town. Of course you must sample the famous Moffat Toffee. Set in the heart of Upper Annandale amidst the beautiful southern upland hills it is a walker’s paradise with many routes starting from the town and taking in some beautiful lochs and valleys along the way. Broomlands Cottage is the ideal base to explore further afield but before you do take a short drive up to the Grey Mares Tail one of Scotland’s favourite water falls plunging 60 metres into the valley below, a spectacular sight.
As well as the hills and valleys, South West Scotland has more than 200 miles of fabulous coastline for you to discover with delightful little seaside towns and villages, beautiful beaches and dramatic cliff top walks.
