Owned by His Majesty the King, in Right of His Duchy of Lancaster, Scalby Lodge is a collection of fifteen beautiful cottages situated in an idyllic clifftop setting near the elegant seaside town of Scarborough.

All the cottages are finished with fixtures and fittings of the very highest standard and have open-plan dining. Some have en-suite bedrooms. They offer an ideal location from which to explore both the North York Moors National Park and the glorious Heritage Coast of Yorkshire.

With sprawling cottage gardens and affording panoramic country side views this former gunpowder store sits in an elevated position within the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. Take one of the many bridlepath walks from the doorstep. The ideal holiday location to explore both the East and North Yorkshire Coast being just 2 miles from Sandsend and 4 miles from the ancient seaport of Whitby, renowned for its connections with Captain James Cook and Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Built in the 1820’s and retaining many of its original features, Little Blue Seaside House is located in the centre of Scarborough. The artistic owner has made many quirky features within the property that all add to the charm and character. On entering this end of terrace property, there is a welcoming cosy wood burner in the living room, great for snuggling up in front of. The small yard to the rear has a sitting-out area, a locking outhouse where items such as a surfboard could be stored, an outside tap where you can wash sandy feet, buckets and spades and a outside shower for after a fun filled day on the beach.

Everything is just a stone’s throw away. The popular casino is just round the corner, as well as an excellent shopping mall. The cricket ground, home to some great county cricket, is just a 5-minute walk away, and there are plenty of shops, bars, restaurants and cafés. There are several ways to walk down to the beach, all of which are between 10 and 20-minute walks. Scarborough has two bays with a long Marine Drive that separates the two. You can walk the full length of both bays, which are over 2½ miles. This is also a section of the Cleveland Way walk too. The train station is a short walk from the property, making this property ideal for those who don’t drive or prefer to leave the car at home. There are direct trains that run to the city of York, voted as one of the top 10 cities to visit. Scarborough has something for all ages from great shopping, wonderful beaches, good night life and plenty to keep the children entertained. Beach ½ mile. With a private driveway at the front of the property, step inside and you have an open plan living area. There is a well-equipped kitchen with a dining area, with comfortable seating around the TV. Glass doors lead you outside into the enclosed back garden, where there is outdoor furniture for enjoying meals al fresco. Upstairs on the first floor there are two bedrooms, both en-suite. This property is well equipped for babies and toddlers, as well as being a great choice for dog owners, with some fabulous walks nearby.
You are located nearby part of the Cinder Track, a public footpath which was formerly the railway leading to the coastal towns of Robin Hood’s Bay, Ravenscar and Scarborough – ideal for walkers or cyclists. The cottage has its own lockable cycle storage so you can bring your bikes with you. You are only a 10-minute walk from the cliff tops with the zigzagging footpaths leading down to the golden beach below. You’re in a peaceful location away from the bustling heart of the old town, which is around a 25-minute stroll away and bursting with quirky shops, cafés as well as the pretty harbour.
The town’s colourful history is one of the many draws to Whitby. So little of the old town has changed over hundreds of years. There are still ships being built where Captain Cook’s vessel the Endeavour was handmade back in 1764 ready for the first voyage to Australia, you can now sail across the harbour in a replica or have your dinner in a restaurant on the ship in the harbour. You can explore the winding streets that Dracula used to roam according to Bram Stoker’s famous book, which has inspired movies and TV shows as well as the annual Goth events.
The town is very proud of its seafaring heritage; enjoy smoked kippers, fresh crab or award winning fish and chips. Further along the coast there are some picturesque bays, villages and towns to visit, including Robin Hoods Bay, Staithes, Runswick Bay, Scarborough and Saltburn. All perfect for a memorable day out.
