The North Yorkshire Moors and the east coast are just a short drive away, and the seaside resorts of Filey and Scarborough have great beaches for the family for that traditional seaside holiday. Within the hour you can be in the city of York with its abundance of renowned attractions, including the iconic Minster, Castle Museum and the Jorvik Viking Centre. Situated in the popular seaside resort of Scarborough, close to the shops and restaurants and just under a mile from the beach, this terraced townhouse is perfect for a family holiday. From the house you can walk to either bay, north or south, both having long sandy beaches making them ideal for families. The North Bay is the quieter of the two and the South Bay has all that you would expect of a traditional seaside resort with donkeys, amusements and children’s rides. You can walk on the promenade the full length of both bays passing the castle perched up on the hillside. If you prefer to take a ride there’s an open top double decker bus that runs along the seafront.
Scarborough has many attractions with the open air theatre, the Scarborough Spa and the Stephen Joseph Theatre. On your walk down to the beach you pass Peasholm Park with it’s beautiful gardens and large lake, a fabulous place to take the kids, there’s boats and pedalos for them to play on. This is also where they do the famous re-enactment of a naval warfare miniature sea battle. The house is situated less than two minutes walk from the train station where you can go by train to York, a medieval city famous for its Minster. Scarborough is just one of many family resorts down the east coast. Further down the coast and just a short drive away is Filey, Flamborough Head and of course the Victorian resort of Bridlington. Captain’s House is a modern town house in a fantastic location, situated just a short walk away from the bustling heart of Whitby on the Yorkshire Heritage Coast. The ruins of the abbey stand proudly on top of the East Cliff headland above the busy seaside town of Whitby. The old town has cobbled streets and independent shops galore, as well as a fantastic foodie scene with everything from award-winning fish and chips to gastro pubs, bistros and traditional pub fayre. This is a great sized house for social get togethers; on the ground floor you have a large open plan living room with a dining table for eight so that you can enjoy meals together. Comfortable sofas in front of the TV are ideal for winding down after a busy day exploring. The adjoining kitchen is well equipped, making this a home from home where you can create all your favourite meals. There are four good sized bedrooms, all well-presented. Upstairs on the first floor there is a super king bedroom as well as a twin room. Up on the second floor you have a second twin room as well as a king bedroom. There are two bathrooms, one of the first and one on the second floor, both with baths with showers over. At the rear of the property you have an adjoining garage for your use as well as an additional parking space in front of the garage door, which is a great bonus in a popular seaside town where parking can be tricky.
Just a few doors away you have a small convenience store, ideal for grabbing essentials as well as food and drinks. Cafés, restaurants, bars and an array of shops, as well as the train station, are all within a 5-10 minute walk away. Here in Scarborough there are two bays, North Bay Beach sweeps in a crescent lined with colourful beach huts from the Sea Life Centre nearby. You can walk from the North Bay all the way along the promenade to the busier South Bay. Both bays have lovely, large sandy beaches making them perfect for your family holiday. There is also Scarborough Castle and the funfair on the seafront. Peasholm Park is wonderful to discover, you can hire pedalos and rowing boats to go around the lake and see the stunning oriental gardens. Scarborough is famous for its theatres. There is an outdoor theatre which stages concerts by some of music’s big names, and then there is the Stephen Joseph Theatre which is famous for the premieres of Alan Ayckbourn’s plays. The Alpamare waterpark is great for all ages, with its fantastic wave pool and waterslides, as well as a large heated outdoor infinity pool. Keep younger children entertained with the ’splash and play’ area. For adults there is a spa where you can relax and be pampered. The heated outdoor pools are warm enough to enjoy through all of the seasons. Further along the coast you also have Ravenscar, Whitby, Robin Hood’s Bay and Bridlington to discover.
There is so much to see and do you are sure to be spoilt for choice, this is a great destination all year round. For dog owners many of the cafés and pubs in this area welcome dogs, and there are some fabulous walking trails over the nearby National Park to enjoy. Turnerdale Hall is a Gothic-style country manor house, and guests can enjoy full access to the east wing of the property and its beautiful grounds. With many of its period features still intact and lovingly restored, you will love exploring the house and will even get to enjoy seeing the steam train pass below the bedroom window, or you can sit out on the patio area to enjoy the views over the River Esk.
The house has an impressive entrance doorway with a coat of arms above the door, and double doors into a vestibule which leads to a large reception hall. Leading from the hall is the main drawing room, which is very large and perfect for family gatherings. It has three large comfortable sofas, a TV with Freesat, a DVD player and a bay window with a window seat, giving uninterrupted views up the River Esk and over the weir. French doors lead from the drawing room to the garden. On the lower ground floor, the well-equipped kitchen can be accessed from either the entrance hallway or via the garden. Off the kitchen is a second reception room with three sofas, a Freesat TV with a DVD player as well as board games and books, making this a great place for relaxing in or for children to play in. The first floor has a good-size master bedroom with fabulous views over the garden and across the valley, as well as a twin bedroom and a bedroom with a large single bed. On the second floor is a double bedroom boasting superb views across the valley, and further twin bedroom.
Outside there are beautiful, established lawned gardens with shrubs and trees. A raised decked area is the perfect place to sit and enjoy al fresco dining or simply sip pre-dinner drinks whilst admiring glorious views over the River Esk.
