Situated on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this a perfect retreat for walkers, cyclists and ramblers, with plenty of walks, cycle paths, bridleways and established footpaths into picturesque countryside. Dating back to Roman times, Menston is on the ancient Roman Road that linked York with the garrison at Ribchester. Nowadays you will find the village dotted with a selection of local shops and country pub. Nearby you will find the picturesque market town of Ilkley with an abundance of restaurants, pubs, pavement cafés and independent shops that can all be easily reached; as can legendary Bettys Cafe Tea Rooms where afternoon tea is a must. Harewood House, just 15 minutes away, is a fantastic day out offering impressive art collections, a magnificent rare bird garden and 100 acres of exquisite gardens to explore. For Emmerdale fans, you’ll also find the Set deep within the grounds of the estate.
Bolton Abbey can be reached in around a 20-minute drive and offers 30,000 acres of beautiful countryside to explore. The charming market town of Skipton, also 20 minutes away, is home to an ancient castle, cobbled high street and colourful street market. Leeds city centre can be reached in just 20 minutes from the local train station where you can enjoy luxury shopping and sip rooftop cocktails at Harvey Nichols. Haworth village, once home to the Brontë Sisters, is another major tourist attraction in the area and can be reached in around a 30-minute drive. York can be reached in an hour and for those looking further afield, the Lake District National Park is within a 2 hour drive.

Located just off the centre of Penistone is Spring Cottage on The Green, where you are a short 8-minute walk from the town’s local amenities which include restaurants, pubs and shops.
After a fun packed day exploring, retreat home to Spring Cottage where there is an open-plan living room and kitchen on the ground floor. It has all the essentials required to cook up a delicious meal, then relax and unwind on the comfortable sofa with the electric wood burner creating a cosy atmosphere, with a projector to watch your favourite shows. Upstairs there are two bedrooms made up of a double and a twin, and a family bathroom. To the front of the house is a small garden area with a bistro set, perfect for al fresco dining, or enjoying a morning coffee. There is parking available in the driveway across from the property and ample roadside space also.
Penistone is surrounded by beautiful and historic countryside, there are both easy and challenging walks, or if you want to make a full day of it then walk the Cal-Der-Went, which links the River Derwent to the River Calder and crosses three counties.

Travelling further afield you will also find St. Ives Estate, Bingley, Altar Rock, Five Rise Locks, Cliffe Castle, Harlow Carr at Harrogate, East Riddlesden Hall, and on our very own doorstep The keighley & Worth Valley Railway, and the Bronte Parsonage Museum. The Lodge is a delightful stone-built old coach house dating back to the 1850s, perfectly set just outside the Yorkshire Dales.
Recently renovated in 2022 by the owner to a high standard, The Lodge has contemporary modern comforts, set in a charming environment that provides the perfect setting for friends, families, and couples to have a peaceful and relaxing retreat. The owners have tried to keep the history alive in this old coach house with impressive exposed wooden beams and stone throughout. You enter the property into the well-presented, well-equipped modern kitchen with a breakfast bar, great for having your breakfast to get energised for today’s adventures. Across from the kitchen is the beautiful living area which is ideal to cosy up on the comfortable sofas with a glass of red in front of the stunning wood burner which adds additional heat and charm. Up one flight of stairs, you are presented with three good size bedrooms all fitted with fresh cotton sheets guaranteeing a perfect night’s sleep. To the rear of the property, there is a superb, enclosed patio area, a fantastic place to sit in the summer months with your favourite holiday tipple or simply have your morning coffee whilst breathing in the fresh morning air.
Brontë Country is nearby, offering lots of wonderful walking routes across the moors, and for those keen on cycling, why not try a section of the Tour de France route that runs through Keighley and Haworth? For a more relaxing way to explore the area, hop on the Worth Valley Steam Train from Keighley Station, which takes you on a 5-mile journey through the Haworth moors and on to Oxenhope, once home to the Brontë Sisters. The village of Haworth, 4 miles, is well worth a visit with its pretty cobbled streets lined with bunting and old-fashioned windows giving you a glimpse of the wares within. There is an array of antique shops, independent bookstores, pavement cafés, and restaurants, plus the Brontë Parsonage Museum. The market town of Skipton, also known as ‘The Gateway to the Yorkshire Dales’, 13 miles, is another great day out, with a tempting selection of bars and restaurants, a medieval castle, and bustling street markets.
You can also take a stroll along the Leeds and Liverpool canal that runs through, or simply watch the barges chug past from a bar overlooking the water. Grab a delicious afternoon tea at Betty’s Tea room in Ilkley and head to Bolton Abbey for a picture-perfect picnic beside the river.

Weavers Cottage is a wonderful pet-friendly holiday cottage less than a mile from the very centre of the super vibrant market town of Holmfirth. Comfortable and cosy it makes the perfect base for a getaway with or without your furry four-legged friends. Equipped with everything you need for a relaxing and enjoyable stay, the open-plan living area features a comfortable sofa which also converts to a sofa bed suitable for a child. There’s a Smart TV and the kitchen is well-equipped with all the utensils you need to whip up a delicious meal. Upstairs, the bedroom has the most beautiful beamed, vaulted ceiling, a comfortable double bed, and the convenience of en-suite facilities. Outside there’s a private parking space available, however those with larger vehicles will need to take caution.
Holmfirth is a beautiful ‘picture postcard’ town with plenty to see and do, including pet-friendly pubs and cafés where you can enjoy a meal and a drink. Probably best known as the back drop to the long running ‘Last of the Summer Wine’ TV series, quite excitingly, fans of the show can check out iconic locations such as Sid’s Café, Nora Batty’s steps and jump on board the ‘Summerwine Magic Tour’. Keen cyclists can re-create the Holme Moss Summit Climb as seen in 2014 Tour de France, and for evening entertainment, Holmfirth Picturedrome is reported to be the North of England’s finest intimate music venue. Quite uniquely, Holmfirth is also home to its very own vineyard where you can take a tour or grab a bite to eat. Of course all of this is on the northern edge of the Peak District National Park meaning opportunities for walkers are endless.

Chatsworth House is also an easy day trip, and the National Coal Mining Museum, Kelham Island and Wortley Top Forge are also well worthwhile. For any shopaholics, Meadowhall, one of Europe’s top shopping malls with an extensive range of shops and restaurants, is just 15 minutes away.
