Offering beautiful, far reaching countryside views over magnificent Staffordshire countryside, The Cartshed is in a truly rural location on the site of a working farm, near the small hamlet of Slindon. This wonderful barn conversion was completed in 2018, and the property benefits from full underfloor heating and is spread out over one level with just a couple of steps down to three of the four bedrooms. The spacious living/dining room makes a fabulous social area with a wood burner as a focal point - perfect for cosy winter months. During the summer, throw open the bi-folding doors onto the enclosed terrace, sit back and relax, and enjoy the outside space.
Your dogs are a part of your family and we welcome a maximum of 3 dogs into The Cartshed. We cater for the exact number of dogs within your booking, with a dog washing station, treats, dog bowls and towels all provided.
Situated in the middle of England, close to the Staffordshire and Shropshire borders, this area offers unspoilt landscapes, the Peak District National Park and world-class theme parks. The historic town of Eccleshall is around a 10-minute drive, offering many shops, pubs and restaurants, as well as an award-winning butcher, and also hosts a farmers’ market every fourth Saturday of the month.
Around 130 public footpaths cover the area, perfect for walking and exploring, and Stoke-on-Trent, Hanley (hosting the Staffordshire Hoard), Stafford and Newcastle-under-Lyme can all be reached in under half an hour. Other places of interest include Trentham Gardens and Monkey Forest and Bridgemere Garden Centre. National Trust properties Shugborough Hall and Weston Park, Shrewsbury, Ironbridge and the theme parks of Alton Towers and Drayton Manor are all around an hour away. The location is also a perfect base for exploring the Peak District National Park, Staffordshire, Shropshire and the Black Country. Rue Hayes Farm Cottage can be found on the friendly owner’s working farm, set amongst the most glorious countryside on the south western edge of the Peak District National Park. Rue Hayes Farm first appeared in historical records in the mid 17th century, and has become a site of historical interest following the recent discovery of a hoard of over 50 Saxon silver half cross coins on the farm. The hoard has been sent to Birmingham Museum so they can assess their historical importance.

Magnificent views surround the property, which was completely renovated in 2018, and guests are welcome to walk in the owner’s woodland grounds. A path runs through the farm which leads to walking and exploring direct from the door. Dovedale, the Manifold Valley, and the Manifold Cycle Track are all within easy reach, together with local cycle hire if you don’t want to bring your own bike. After a day spent in the great outdoors you can come back, sit and relax in the bubbling hot tub in true peaceful surroundings with the most beautiful views (bathrobes are provided for those guests hiring the hot tub).
The small sandstone village of Onecote is about 1½ miles away, whilst the hillside market town of Leek is about 4 miles. Here you will find a charming cobbled market place and a wide selection of shops, restaurants and real ale pubs. Buxton and Ashbourne can both be reached in under half an hour, as can the Three Shires Head, which is the meeting point of the counties of Cheshire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire. Chatsworth House, Matlock and Matlock Bath with the famous cable car ride to the Heights of Abraham, can all be reached in approximately 45 minutes, as can Trentham Gardens, Monkey Forest, and the National Trust’s Little Moreton Hall. Finally with Alton Towers just 20 minutes away, there really is the option to do as much or as little as you like. Shop 4 miles, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.

This cottage, although quaint and cosy is the perfect size for a couples Peak District get-away. As you enter into the property into the sitting room, you are greeted by a warming log burner, along with comfortable seating, Smart TV and a dining table with two chairs. In the kitchen are all the appliances you should require including a dishwasher and free cupboard space to store anything you want to bring with you. On the first floor is the spacious bathroom, featuring bath with overhead shower, and the king-size bedroom with views of the village. Outside there is parking to the rear for one car, and to the front of the property is a small private garden with bistro set to enjoy your morning coffee or evening wine.
The village of Longnor is a great base to be, offering a traditional village atmosphere and beautiful views. The local village pub, only a couple of minutes’ walk away, has recently been refurbished and is opening again in August 2023. Outside of Longnor your nearest town is Buxton offering cafes, many delicious restaurants and great bars, plus the Opera House and Gardens. In the opposite direction is the town of Leek which is great for your high street shops. There is ample walking from your doorstep in Longnor with many trails to explore along with many more activities around you.
