Situated within the Dartmoor National Park, set back from a beautiful, leafy stretch of the B3212 and a mile from Doccombe, these three, lodge-style properties (refs W43911, 28924), accessed via a track, are adjacent to the owners’ home. The holiday lodges lie in a lovely setting that offer a comfortable base from which to explore the surrounding area. There are 10 acres of beautiful, ancient woodland, complete with a stream winding its way through the land, plus an abundance of wildlife, ponds and granite boulders. A rich variety of plants and woodland flowers offer an idyllic haven for the resident wildlife. This is a brilliant area for walking, relaxing and star gazing as there is no light pollution. Nearby, a golf club and horse riding over Dartmoor are available. Being in the midst of Dartmoor, there are many superb walks, reservoirs, heather-clad tors and Dartmoor ponies. There are many places of interest for the whole family. If you are a keen walker, the Teign Valley is well known for its delightful woodland footpaths. It is an area of outstanding beauty and in the springtime, the Dunsford woods are famous for beautiful natural daffodils and a little later, a carpet of bluebells. This characterful, Cotswold stone, end-of-row holiday cottage is situated in the charming village of Avening. The village has a pub within easy walking distance which is attached to an Indian restaurant. This also does take aways for an relaxing night in. Nearby is Gatcombe Park, the home of the Princess Royal. There are some lovely walks around the village and surrounding beautiful countryside. This splendid holiday cottage is ideally located for exploring many local attractions, such as the famous Westonbirt Arboretum, which has a magnificent tree collection and also hosts a variety of events.
Tetbury is just 3 miles away, a thriving market town with elegant buildings and 17th-century market hall. As well as offering a unique retail experience with many craft shops, it is also a major centre for antiques. Malmesbury, 8 miles, is the oldest borough in England with its Norman Abbey and the beautiful Abbey House Gardens. The Roman city of Cirencester is 12 miles away, and there are many Roman remains in the surrounding area, including several Roman villas near the villages of Chedworth and Withington. The famous Cheltenham racecourse is 20 miles away and the magnificent city of Bath, famous for its hot springs, is 26 miles.

Just along the lane is one of the largest post windmills in the country - an ideal windmill location as it’s built on some of the highest ground in the area, overlooking the Pevensey Levels and English Channel. Herstmonceux Castle with grounds and gardens is nearby, and is home to the Observatory Science Centre, providing spectacular hands-on science among the domes and telescopes of a world-famous astronomical observatory. Explore 7 acres of grounds and gardens at Michelham Priory, with the longest water-filled moat in England, 9 miles. Also, visit Pevensey Bay and Castle, where William the Conqueror landed in 1066, Burwash with Batemans, home to Rudyard Kipling and Charleston Farmhouse, home of the Bloomsbury set and decorated by Vanessa Bell, sister to Virginia Woolf, which are all within a short drive. Situated in the hamlet of Newton on the outskirts of Sturminster Newton, between the historic towns of Sherborne and Blandford, and just south of Shaftsbury, they are an excellent holiday base to explore the rolling countryside of Dorset and the south coast. There are many historic houses within easy driving, in particular Stourhead House and Gardens (National Trust), Kingston Lacey (National Trust), Athelhampton, Sherborne Castle and Fiddleford Manor (English Heritage), or one can explore the delightful Dorset south coast between Weymouth and Bournemouth, taking in Lulworth Cove, Swanage and Poole with their many attractions. Weymouth with its beach, fishing, windsurfing, yachting and Sea Life Centre is well worth a visit, perhaps calling in at the Bovington Tank Museum and Monkey World near Wool. This very unique village was created some 750 years ago by Henry III when he granted Lavenham ’market’ status, and today, regular farmers markets are held. Bury St Edmunds is 11 miles away and Colchester is 18 miles, which boasts many shops, bars and restaurants. Ipswich, with its harbour and marina, is 19 miles and offers a great day out with walking access into the town with its shops. For a more coastal scene, take a drive to the Suffolk coastline with its beautiful beaches and RSPB reserves.
