    As you drive into the country and leave the hustle and bustle behind, you can really feel at one with nature in this beautiful place. Surrounded by farmland, grazing sheep in the fields and a wide variety of wildlife and birds. A real adventure ground for the children! Dating back to the 1800’s when the neighbouring mill was built, Burnside House has been in the family for five generations. Enjoying a tranquil spot with views across the stream of Willimotswick Castle, the birthplace of Bishop Ridley.
    The cottage has been completely restored throughout in 2021 providing a comfortable and stylish holiday home. Inside the cottage, an open staircase separates the spacious living/dining room, tastefully decorated, with chesterfield sofas and chairs, two electric stoves set within inglenooks and large farmhouse table it’s a perfect social space. The newly installed kitchen and utility are well equipped with all the necessary appliances you will need throughout your stay. Upstairs the en-suite master bedroom looks out across the stream to the castle, with kingsize bed, dressing area and stylish furniture. Bedroom two can be a family room, with kingsize bed and additional pull out single available on request and suitable for a child. Bedroom three has three bespoke bunk style beds, the two lower beds suitable for adults…children will adore this room! There is a luxurious family bathroom with bath and shower over and an additional downstairs separate toilet. Outside the grounds extend down to the stream, a perfect spot to sit and relax, you might even spot a fish or two swim by! Beat a retreat to the patio where you can take a dip in the hot tub or sit and just take in the joys of the countryside. There is a covered shelter with lighting, table, and chairs for al fresco suppers or for some campfire fun, cosy up round the fire pit and watch the stars - you’ll certainly be undisturbed.
    There are beautiful walks from the door. A 20-minute walk will take you across the river to the village of Bardon Mill with picnic area, coffee shop/general store, a hotel serving a varied menu including Thai meals and drinks. From here catch the train - you can be in Newcastle or Carlisle in under 45 minutes. Nearby Haltwhistle, geographically acknowledged as ’the Centre of Britain’ has many amenities including a supermarket, independent shops, restaurant, cocktail bar, a sports centre, and an outdoor swimming pool. The location is excellent for exploring the spectacular scenery of the north of England, visit the famous Vindolanda Roman Fort, The Sill Landscape Discovery Centre, and the world-famous Sycamore Gap on Hadrian’s Wall. Nearby the historic market town of Hexham with stunning abbey, the oldest gaol in the country and an abundance of eclectic shops, restaurants and pubs. Continue to the Roman town of Corbridge with boutique shops, art galleries, antiques or take a stroll along the river. There is so much to see and do, Burnside Cottage makes a perfect holiday base.
