Upstairs the kingsize bedroom has a lovely feature bed, Smart TV and en-suite washroom, toilet and separate shower room. Across the landing is the pretty single bedroom which has a cosy cabin-style feel, with an en-suite shower room and double rainfall-style shower. Outside is an enclosed, stone-flagged courtyard, set with a table and chairs to enjoy an al-fresco meal or evening tipple as you return from your day’s adventure.     Less than a mile away and an easy walk is the village of Bardon Mill where there is a lovely picnic area, coffee shop/general store, and a dog-friendly pub which serves bar and Thai food, and also has a beer garden. From here catch the train - you can be in Newcastle or Carlisle in under 45 minutes. The historic market town of Hexham has a stunning abbey, the oldest gaol in the country and an abundance of eclectic shops, restaurants and pubs. Continue to the Roman town of Corbridge and meander around its boutique shops, art galleries and antique shops and take a stroll along the river.
    In close proximity to the Northumberland National Park, the location is excellent for exploring the spectacular scenery of the north of England. Visit the famous Vindolanda Roman Fort, The Sill Landscape Discovery Centre and the world-famous Sycamore Gap on Hadrian’s Wall. For the golf enthusiast, Close House Golf Course is just a 25-minute drive away. In just over an hour, you can reach the golden beaches at Tynemouth, or head further north to explore the Northumberland coastal villages of Amble, Bamburgh, Warkworth and many more.     Shilbottle is located midway between the picture perfect coastal village of Alnmouth to the east and the historic market town of Alnwick to the north west, both being a mere 4 miles from your door. Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland and film location for Harry Potter’s ‘Hogwarts’, is a popular visitor attraction. Another place thats worth a visit is Alnwick Gardens - a spectacular interpretation of a formal garden, including a grand cascade waterfall and where guests can dine in the restaurant of the largest tree house in Europe. There is a wide array of facilities available within this lovely market town, including independent shops, tea rooms, a cinema/playhouse and one of the largest second-hand book shops in the UK. The pretty seaside village of Alnmouth boasts a vast golden sandy beach and there is a variety of good restaurants, pubs, tea rooms and gift shops. Golf enthusiasts will delight in two courses, one being a fine 9-hole course adjacent to the beach and the other being a challenging 18-hole course at Foxton enjoying panoramic views. Travel 10 miles north east to the seaside holiday village of Beadnell, popular for watersports enthusiasts.
    Visit Seahouses a further 2 miles north and take a boat trip to the Farne Islands to see the puffins at play (in season). Bamburgh Castle is only an extra 3 miles up this stunning coastline. Set on the edge of the National Park it is within easy access of the Northumberland Heritage Coast, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and only 12 miles from Alnwick famed for the castle used in some Harry Potter film scenes. The National Park can be easily reached and Kielder has a host of water sports. The drive along the lake is pretty spectacular and the dark skies at night are a big visitor attraction. You may even wish to venture to the Scottish Borders only 30 miles from here and of course the friendly city of Newcastle upon Tyne is only 30 miles south where you can explore the historic buildings and take a photo by the famous Tyne Bridge.
